- In this vintage crochet shawl tutorial, I am going to be showing you how to crochet Claire's shawl from Outlander.
In the Outlander Series, she wears this shawl that is knitted but I created a crochet version for this vintage shawl.
It is a fairly simple shawl to crochet yet effective to wear.

Just finishing my first Claire shawl & i am surprised to discover that it hangs to the back of my calves! Almost to my ankles!! I have 3 more rows to go & i think it will then reach them! I guess a belt will pull it up some. I must be shorter than you, Anja.
@@carolthailing9964 yes you have to make it to your size!! Just past your fingertip to fingertip measurement!
Okay, yes, tip to tip, which i forgot to check because i heard you say do 35 rows, then start the stripes of the other color . So after the 35 rows i did 2 rows, then 3, then 2 ,then 3, then 2, then 3, now the single crochet last row. So how many to start with ,35, is where you stop & measure???
My question about the 35 rows was never clarified or answered.... so , the 3 stripes are within those 35 rows? Because i know what you said in the tutorial, to do the stripes after the 35th row . It ended up too long.

It’s rare that I can find someone teaching crochet patterns that I can follow. I do read written patterns. I struggle with the symbols. This was perfect!

I’ve never seen the outlander series but I love the costumes and such and only YESTERDAY I was looking through the pattern books on Amazon and the reviews were so disappointing on the books.

I think I must have mentioned a hundreds of times what great videos you make!!! I am actually busy making a similar Shawl, in my mother tongue , Afrikaans, it is called a "Uitlander" shawl. I love the stich, I can actually sit in front of the tv and watch, I can feel the "V" with my fingers so I know where to put the hook into. I just put a maker into the middle part! 🥰🧶

Is it possible to make it too big? I used 4weight w/9mm it’s past my fingertips. Can I get away with 10 more rows maybe to get it to go lower in back or will the wings be too large? I’m going to attach large tassels to the tips

I have crochet three shawls now based in this shawl.
My first is huge. Nice to throw on taking the dogs outside.
Second, still a tad big, but nice soft and warm.
Third, needs a few more rows, however I like it as a shawl/vest.

I thank you so much for the tutorial, I'm about to get started, but I have to say I'm in the middle of watching Outlander, in the middle(?) of the Fraser's Ridge arch, and I haven't gotten to the part that you featured in the beginning of the video! I've been anxiously waiting to see what happens with Brianna so it was a bit of a spoiler there to see Claire with her. It's okay though, I can't wait to start this project!

If I wanted a tighter stitch, I would use a smaller hook, correct? I am making this for a friend for warmth. So needs to be less "airy".

Already making #2! First one turned out great in 4weight with a 9mm. I have to buy more yarn to make my tassels though. Is there a place I can post mine so you’ll see it? Fb group maybe? can you make us all claires shawls please I like the one that Jamies Aunt was wearing. it was white and it looked wavy I really loved the stitching and would like to make it in chrochet that looks close to the stitching

I'd love to do this, but maybe explain a bit slower and also what is involved in each stitch.

If I stick with the same colour throughout then do I do the same thing but without the colour changes, or do I have to do colour changes in order for the result to
be the same as yours? I have a lot of balls of self-stripping yarn so I don’t feel the need to change colours.
You can use whatever colours you desire Vella, Anja x
