One thing worth mentioning regarding Texmaster: although quite handy, it is not 100% accurate compared to emulating the games. Keep that in the back of your head when using it
For more modern options, you have TGM Cambridge, the Master of Blocks series (particularly 5-X and Horror-Reflex) and Nullpomino, though some MoB games like 4 and Tetris EX Returns have their entirely own takes on Arika's Grand Master formula.

@@d4nin3u I was just thinking this morning also to start doing some tuto, I actually prepare some visuals to cover the fundamentals of TGM timings and the skillstops. I'm getting a Launch Game.bat instead of a tgm_launcher.exe for my game install. My keybindings also don't work, in fact, none work except for the insert coin button. What do?
did you download altinput.zip? That contains the tgm_launcher.exe. You could run typex_config to configure key bindings for what you have right now, but that has worse input lag so use altinput if you can

Yup. And that's why I'll have to take it down by the end of this year :P. Enjoy while it lasts I guess. (I have to admit though: I'm amazed that this video survived until today.)
@ValveGMD I set it to private when the ban wave was announced to come, but it turned out relatively harmless and after a while I decided that probably nothing is going to happen. Which thankfully was true
Thx, this worked for me. However I don't get how to properly play TGM3, when I want to make a new player account it asks me for a password, what does that mean?
It wants a 6 button press sequence as a "password" to protect your account. E.g. "CBACBA". You can use buttons ABCD (ABC being the rotations buttons and D being hold). In your case it doesn't have to be complex, just don't forget it ^^. I probably didn't emphasise it enough in this video (and I might need to remake it/take it down due to Arika threatening legal actions), but TGM is an arcade game played on an arcade machine, publicly available to everyone. If there wasn't a password, everybody could login as you and ruin your qualified Master rank for example. (Fun fact: you can have different accounts with the same name as long as they have different passwords).
If your PC is not very performant unfortunately yes. I can point you to ZinC though which might be suitet better for your PC if you want to give that a try.
i got tgm 1 and 2 working just fine using shmupmametgm, but when trying to run tgm3 launcher it will show up as a black screen for a little bit before crashing, i tried running as admin and running in xp compatibility mode but it doesn't help much at all. Is there any solution to this or do i just have like a bad copy?
you probably don't need this anymore, but going to send the solution here anyways, maybe for other people with the same problem. The solution is fairly simple: you're probably using laptop and on almost every laptop there's integrated graphics card and dedicated one. If you're getting black screen and the game crashes right away, the chance is that your laptop uses integrated graphics as a default GPU, therefore the game doesn't like it, and crashes. To fix it you should go to Control Panel of your dedicated GPU (to look up what your GPU is you can go to device manager) and change the settings so the game uses dedicated GPU (look up how to do it in google, since it depends on if your card is by AMD or NVIDIA). Same applies to desktop PCs with CPUs that have integrated graphics. There's a chance that you won't have a dedicated graphics (in that case you're probably using desktop PC and your only way is just to go and buy one), but that's what helped me (there might be other problems than that).
For TGM and TAP, is shmupmametgm still the way to go? Recent versions of mame play TAP at the correct framerate for instance, but I wonder about input lag and such.
That's news to me so I can't really tell you. The main reason shmupmametgm was/is popular was the extra frame of input lag saved so that'd be my main criterion. I did not follow recent MAME releases and just used shmupmametgm out of habit I guess.
I used type x config for a while before I was made aware of alt input. Is there any way to use a joystick with alt input without using key remapping software as this only allows for four directions of input. I tried to configure it based on the setup that was already there but that didn't work.
yehhew bod Nope. Most likely the sign of your PC not being able to keep up. While you are in game press F11; this should bring up a x% counter in the upper right corner. If it says 100% you're good. If it says anything lower while playing, Mame is lagging behind and hence weird stuff happens.
Whenever I launch tgm3, the game is at a really high fps. Any methods of making the game cap at 60 fps? I found somewhere that you could use a fps limiter, but its not working.
Flow are you using an Intel graphics card? For some reason they tend to do that (not all of them, I was in luck with my previous PC) and unfortunately I don't know a fix...
I've seen them on coolrom. use the "alternate download link with ads " that will bring up a page with the rom download. If you use the first download link you see it may try to download an exe file.
Due to copyright and similar legal stuff I don't want to provide a link for the file. If you google appropriately you should be able to get it *somewhere*.
