5:50 HIGHLY appreciate you including a mistake here! It's a great way to demonstrate the mechanic when the player fails and how they get recover again.
i remember when i first started i looked for good videos on how to use das but nothing showed up. I hope people who are learning in the future find this video
@@MylesTheGreat I'm actually one of the people just learning. I think I might finally move over from Gameboy to NES for good after beating Steve Wozniaks Nintendo Power Highscore. I know you can max it out but it looks like a boring thing to single it out forever.
watched this through and went from struggling to complete 19-0 once to being able to consistently clear 19-1 in the span of like an hour. thank you for explaining it so easily! my main oversight was i thought i had to keep charging das constantly, and had no idea you conserve it during the 6 frame reset window. thank you thank you thank you!!!
I've seen so many videos. I've tried to explain das to my wife. I was an adult educator and curriculum designer. I couldn't for the life of me explain how to manipulate das to her the way you could. I'm impressed.
Great plugin! The ability to use lua scripts to write plugins for games is such a great feature of FCEUX (I couldn't imagine writing this as a romhack/mod in 6502 assembly).
This was one of the first videos that really turned me into (Atleast I think) A good Tetris player. I appreciate this video to inspire new dassers in this current Tetris environment
Very nice vid and good effort, I wish I had found it earlier. One issue I had when trying the script was at times I feel like i was shamed for making adjustments and for tapping once to move a piece one column to the side. But that might just be a bad habit I have, im not sure.
They're designed for the fceux emulator, running a Tetris ROM. When it's running, you can go to File->Lua->New Lua Script Window, and then choose the plugin. Or just drag-and-drop the plugin onto the fceux window.
From what I can tell, advanced players (which I am *not*) generally never press down, because they only play at higher levels where the piece is falling so quickly that there's no reason to rush its descent. I've seen footage of tournament players pushing down as a sort of joke, when they're not taking things seriously.
First you need to run the FCEUX emulator with the NES Tetris ROM, then just drag the plugin file onto the emulator and it'll load the plugin. Good luck!
In terms of practicing, I found levels 9 and 12 useful for getting a feel for DAS. I can't play reliably at level 18 but once I started to get a feel for DAS I found it useful to play level 18 now and then, even though it went badly, just so I could focus on how DAS feels there.
Neat! But *where* am I presumed to be playing the game itself here? On Windows? Using some emulator program? EDIT: Found the answer: Use the emulator called FCEUX (currently version 2.2.3) and play under Win32 or Linux OS.
in most browsers you can right click the page and hit "Save as...", or just hit ctrl+s and save it to your computer. Then, you can load it in the emulator as shown in the video
Hello! Thank you so much for the tutorial, it helped a lot. I’m having trouble installing the plugins though. When I click on the links, I just get the plugin script with no way to download them. (Sorry for my lack of experience I am very bad with this kind of stuff) Thanks!

@@Peat030 The lua script works by reading (in the fceux emulator) from specific memory locations that Tetris uses to represent specific values. If the PAL version of Tetris uses the same memory locations to represent the same values as the NTSC version, then the same lua script should work for both. But if the PAL version uses different memory locations to represent the state then the lua script won't work for it.
Awesome video! Would it be ok if I featured your plugin on a video I'm working on? It's for the spanish speaking community, of course I'll be crediting you and referring to your video and your links, again, it's a very helpful plugin :D

Best explanation of DAS I’ve seen. Just what I needed! Thanks.

I know people will claim this is outdated but I still watch it about monthly. Thanks so much for making it
I was struggling to understand how DAS should look and feel and this video was the perfect answer
Would love a follow-up video with the more advanced techniques
this is really awesome. the plugins give immediate feedback for something i'd be clueless on otherwise. thank you!
In fact, you can keep DAS charged when you overshoot if you use the red fireball technique.
Nice! This looks like for sure the best lua script for this

This deserves a big fat like
I like the entry delay display
great video
This is really cool. How do you use your plugins with an emulator?

awesome vid :)
Good video.
Is there any tutorials for adding plug ins to the emulator? I'm using mesen.
the links are unavailable for me :(( do you think you can re-upload them?
where do i put the code inside tetris gym within mesen?
Nice vid. So players dont press down to make the piece drop faster?

Friend : what is das ?
Me : it's when the piece goes beebeebeebeep
Wow this was impressive.

Hello! Is it possible to use this script in the Mesen emulator? for some reason it brings a global memory error when trying to run it
These scripts only work for FCEUX
Thank you!
I love the video but when I tried downloading your plugins, the links appear to be broken :(
That's odd. I can access them now. Are they still broken for you?
How would I use the LUA file? Clicking the link sends me to a new tab with the code. Would I need a to edit a LUA file or is there a simpler way?

Would this work for the pal Version?
Hmm, I'm not sure if the memory map of the PAL version is identical to the NTSC version. If you try it out let me know what you find!
