2:30 the orange and green lines are actually based on how many lines cleared Orange is awarded at 32 lines during the M-Roll, Green otherwise Whether you finish the M-Roll or not determines your grade: Master for failing the M-Roll, Grand Master for finishing it. Orange GMs ARE ranked above Green GMs though. This is true for both versions of TGM2. The fading roll DOES depend on whether it's cleared or not though.
Every time I think I'm good at tetris being able to get to level 19 in the Game boy version and clearing merathon mode in games like tetris ds or Tetris efect I just have ti watch one of these videos to realize how scrib I am. No ive not beaten Nyet III but I can say it runs on a Steam Deck so thats good.
great question! this stuff i'd definitely recommend first trying out some of the marathon modes aka the master modes in Cambridge to get a sense of how a normal game would feel, then move up to the survival modes aka the death-like ones. it is defintely going to take a lot of practice (hell i can barely get past 200 levels). definitely check out the servers linked below to help you out. best of luck, you absolutely got this!!

What about Phantom mode in DOS Tetris v3.12? I feel like that could be considered as a predecessor.
I suck as invisible tetris which is why I only barely got GM twice (without exam) in TGM3 Grade Mania mode in NullpoMino
TGM3 master is easy tbh except for the invisible part. TGM2 master is harder.
Please consider using a de-esser on your voice track if you have not been using it. And also, your microphone seems to have a humming issue.
