Thanks! These are real people with real issues. Glad my videos are helping. When people mulch properly this isn't such a big deal. It's very common that people think they're mulching when in all reality they are not mulching and just leaving long strands of dead grass.
Great video, quick question, does leaving grass clipping on the lawn contribute to thatch ? I see alot of people recommending to leave the grass clippings on to feed the lawn, but surely it just dries and makes a thatch-like covering ?
Excellent question. In my opinion if the grass clippings aren't ground down to less than 1/16" you're just leaving dead grass and not thatch. Thatch is the layer of sediment that is 1/4" above and below the surface. When people leave dead grass clippings that are bigger than 1/8" it collects on top of the soil and the beneficial bacterias have a very difficult time decomposing the matter. Its this matter, the non-decomposing matter, that is causing all of the issues. It stops proper oxygen transfer and doesn't allow fertilizers to reach the ground. In return the roots begin to curl upward to reach the nutrients and water. Hope that helps.
There’s a City called Parkland here in South Florida, the soil when the build new houses is a mess, I have 3 customers which their grass is a pain, I don’t know if it’s because of the soil, but I’ll try to recommend them to do what you just did and let’s see how it goes.

I've watched several videos today to find a solution to my thin lawn, but all I see is examples working with fescue grasses. I live in North Georgia in a subdivision that is managed by a Home Owners Association (HOA). We are allowed only Bermuda grass in the front, but can do what we want in the back. When I was younger, I did the lawn work myself, but now that I am in my late 80's I hire both the chemical application and the mowing of the lawn. What questions should I be asking my Chemical applicators? What kind of guidelines should I be giving my mowers?
Great questions. First and foremost with mowing you need to see if they remove the runners in the spring time. This helps getting that green look. Secondly Bermuda is hungry. Ask if they blend there mix for Bermuda grass or warm season grass in general. Warm season grass takes more pre emergent and nitrates and micros.

Hey raymond. These are all great questions. Kentucky bluegrass takes 2 to 4 weeks to germinate and about 3 months to establish. Its worst than watching paint dry hahaha. It's worth it in the end. As for the fertilizer and root development. Watering habits are number one, phosphorus number 2. Milo is a great choice for root development since it's super high in phosphorus. I'm currently dealing with this issue. It looks OK now in the spring (kentucky bluegrass), but in the summer it's brutal. The ground becomes so hard (clay) in summer that it doesnt matter how long I run the irrigation. I'll have to be more aggressive with wetting agents. I'm making some additional adjustments this year. Last year I adjusted the fertilization to avoid growing the grass too quickly, but I still need to do some amending of the soil. The biggest change for me going forward is to core aerate. The mycorrhiza is pretty simple. You need to do the math first. I find that most bags 1.5oz to 2oz of mycorrhiza treat about 1500ft2 to 2000ft2. regular herbicide treatments will kill mint. you may need to find where the primary source is coming from and treat that too. Most likely a garden area.
I put peat moss down to try and keep seeds in place. But it was supposed to be organic. Could it have came the Peat moss?
@@lisacash7238 not likely. most likely a neighboring property has it. sometimes it can blow with the wind.
Which herbicide should I use to get rid of it?
@@lisacash7238 most off the shelf will kill it
Where do you buy Max Pak from
Its a brand that is mostly available to commercial companies. I've been recommending Micronutrients Azomite as a substitution product.

I live in eastern Massachusetts. When is the best season to thatch your grass.
anytime the grass is actively growing.
whats a good lowes/hd....liquid fungul I can buy-recommendations please, getting algae on my grass on the shady part of home, how to stop it? thanks man
buy ferrous sulfate. it's an iron, it does stain but that's the best way. be careful on how you apply it so it doesn't stain your concrete.
@@pestandlawnginja well whats the best way to apply? wet lawn, dry etc?
2nd. your saying this will kill the lawn algae and the bermuda will come back, or i will have to scrape the algae off and reseed it?
@@mml1224 it attacks the algae. Run it at a soil treatment and water it in
@@pestandlawnginja great to see a vid on this (underrated topic)................wink wink

Hey can I email you a picture of my lawn and perhaps you can give me some advice?
facebook is best
Whats the azomite for
simple carbon source
@@pestandlawnginja thanks for responding. How often can i put the 1-0-1 on?
I think I'm experiencing shallow roots in my fescue. How often do you use the essentials and the Pak? The majority of my yard passes the screwdriver test.
I only use the essentials plus as a recovery option. It's to expensive to use it all the time. Get some sea weed / sea kelp and humates and add some fertilizer to it.
@@pestandlawnginja Thanks for the info.
Is there an update to this lawn?
No. I couldn't get the owner to agree with my watering terms. The renter had been dying to get on board.
Bro where do I get the max pac..?
The best way for now is to contact michael@humagroturf.com .
Show us how to grow a beard like yours now😂😉
I'll show you my 5 step process LOL
LN keep the worded graphics up longer...I’m a slow reader.
Great feedback. Thank you
By backyard looks like that🤔
sweet! Slay that lawn!
No Shade Trees? What's wrong with these People? and Don't have some Irragation systems, set to water 1/2 -3/4" a week? They deserve what they get! sorry and treat with Fungus control and do some samples to see if got Grubs 1st.. and I assume you've done a waterring Test of how long to set your water time on for to get 1/2-3/4" ? Watch the Nija's past postings for doing that!
I felt bad for these people. Renters and the owners had a property management company that was dragging there feet. The soil was bone dry and aquaphobic.
forget the lawn, just post your beard care routine.
LOL learning course coming soon
