Yeah and also he didn't knew that all of the killing was necessary while making the circle, that's why he says "what a tragedy" and the dwarf in the flask says "yeah, a tragedy". So the dwarf knew but Hoenheim didn't

In the 16th-century a Swiss alchemist Paracelsus (also known as Philippus Aureolus Theophrastus Bombastus von Hohenheim) believed in the existence of alkahest, which he thought to be an undiscovered element from which all other elements (earth, fire, water, air) were simply derivative forms. he believed that this element was the philosopher's stone.

Also note the interesting difference in wording. Homunculus are artifical humans with a philosopher's stone at their core while he described himself as a philosopher's stone in the form of a man. Which is a notable difference since homunculi aren't able to have children and he did so he isn't a homunculus.

a note: hohenheim did not actually know about the crests of blood. he’s not shown to be in the room when father tells the king about how to gain immortality, and we see hohenheim react with “what an awful tragedy” quite sincerely when he hears news of villages being massacred. just something to note, he wasn’t even *complicit* in father’s plans considering he had no idea of the details.

It's never really outright stated but the Dwarf in the Flask is essentially a piece of the portal of truth itself, given physical form in our world using human blood as an anchor, the same as Al's blood seal on his armor, but wasn't a human before, as a piece of the portal, the Dwarf is inherently aware of a great deal of the knowledge the portal holds, and can share that knowledge, but lacking context and connection to humanity he lacks a sense of empathy

This is speculation on my part, but i always wonder if "father" believed Von would be grateful for his immortality and continue to travel with him and that "betrayal" came as a surprised to him, i will add a couple of additional parts to this speculation later on, but i truly believed he was grateful and cared for Von

The dwarf wouldn’t have survived outside its flask at that point think like Alphonse suit they made something kinda like a soul without a body so the flask to a degree is its vessel. He made a vessel cloned from Von’s and due to the dwarf having originated from Von’s blood its a perfect vessel that wouldn’t be rejected but being body he can move around not stuck but his desire definition of freedom certainly is ambitious as you will see later on.

"One is all, all is one" gives basis for understanding that humans are part of something bigger, be it society or universe, as well as that bigger thing being part of humans.
Hohenheim takes this to logical conclusion that 'all' cannot exist without 'one' just as 'one' can't exist without 'all'. Objects cannot exists without universe, universe connot exist without objects. Applying this to humans and social structures you get the idea that as much as we are part of our family, our family is part of us and rejecting this is going against the truth of "one is all, all is one"

FMA:B does flashbacks well because there are so few of them. It can get away with an episode being almost entirely a flashback because it uses long-winded flashbacks sparingly. It's crazy watching Blind Wave react to Naruto and remembering how overused flashbacks were in that anime!

"All is ultimately of the One, so if All is not included in the One, then All is nothing"
I think it means that All comes from the One, so if All isn't considered part of One, then the statement "All is One, One is All" is false. It's a logical and philosophical statement, and something the people of Xerxes seemed to need to properly understand in order to study and practice alchemy. Perhaps as a rite of passage, you had to demonstrate your understanding of All and One.
It might also relate to Truth, but I can't properly put that into words right now. Regardless, I hope this helps!

    • @KenjTheSnek
      @KenjTheSnek 2 роки тому +2

Something else to note is that Ed and Al still got their answer to the question correct. And even more importantly, Truth states “I am All, I am One. And that also means that I am YOU.” And true to his words, he takes the form of a silhouette of the person in the portal. God is All, All is God. If the all is not included within God, the universe, etc, then that means all is the opposite: nothing, void, null. And to not see God within yourself is to reduce your knowledge and understanding to nothing. You cannot know the universe without being a part of it, you cannot know anything without knowing the One and the All, yourself and the world, and the relationship between. Its mostly in relation to REAL philosophy behind Alchemy. Perfection.

I realize this is about a year late (and that you've almost certainly already hashed out your own thoughts on this), but the philosophy of 'if all is not of the one, then one is nothing' is so potentially deep that I can't resist tossing my two cents in. And if I watch the next video and find I've said something almost the same as you, I can feel some cheerful satisfaction.
Anyway, I listen to that statement and I hear an echo on scientific proofs and theories. In the philosophy of science (which is very closely tied to classical alchemy), it only takes one contradiction in order to disprove a theory. Doesn't matter how many experiments, observations, or collected data sets that agree with the theory- one demonstrated instance of contradiction and the theory falls. So, moving back to the show, an alchemist can have a years long built up theory of a specific transmutation system (all), based on how the world works (one)- but if any single part of that transmutation theory/system (all) is false and does not exists in the world (one), then the entire system is a failure, and the alchemist's view of both the system and the world its in are false and come to nothing.
Witness Ed and Al's failed attempt to bring their mother back. Their theories and ideas (backed by desperate children's hopes and the assumption that humans could be brought back in the first place) were false, and at the end of it, their hopes, attempts, and world were all destroyed.
It works the other way, too- if some factor exists in the world (one) that was not accounted for in the alchemic transmutation system (all), then the transmutation and theory again fail and become nothing- because all is one and one is all, and they must be equivalent and balanced.
Hope you enjoyed my take on this, and that you're finding lots of good anime to watch as you continue on!

I don’t believe it’s outright stated in the show, but Homunculus(Father) will die if it leaves it’s flask. It’s like a container that keeps it together. I also believe that this was the biggest reason behind Father’s motives. Over time he increased the size of his flask to the extent where it covers the country like the size of the transmutation circle. I believe his biggest reasons for everything including immortality is so he can finally truly leave the flask. It’s not like he’d fall apart if he’s immortal. Anyway the point is that father would die outside the flask and in my personal opinion the reason for everything is so he can truly be free of the flask once and for all

So, I doubt this is what they were going for with the "one is all, all is one" spiel since they're alchemists and not politicians, but I always interpreted that speech as a statement on the social contract. I, the one, give to the society, all, through labor and taxes and such. But if the all is not part of the one, if the society does not provide for me, through services and protection and such, then all is nothing. Society is worthless if it does not exist for the benefit of each and every one, in service of all. Each one gives in service to the all, and the all exists for the benefit of every one.
This theme is reinforced by the story of King Xerxes. He represents the government, the all, but he did not live in service of his people. He did not include the all in the one that is himself, so now all is nothing.

27:38 That does make sense, we learned stuff like this in Philosophy and Theology classes. "One" is always the first one, the God, or whatever you want to call it - something that isn't result of anything else, but it became of itself, if it makes sense... "All" is much easier to understand, because "all" is everything that came as a result of the "Ones" / Gods existence. When the show said "all is of one" that pretty much confirms it. But when it's said that "if all isn't in the one, then it's nothing" that makes sense because "all" is everything around us (including ourselves) created by the "one" . So if it's not created by the "one" then it is in fact nothing, because there isn't a single thing that can't be traced to existence of the "first one"/God etc... This thinking comes from ancient Greeks and it's something that set the basis for a lot of scientist and thinkers...
