Their parents don't give them access to play the phone (only on weekends, holiday, or school to call them for transportation). When I was their age, my parents gave me a phone that's only able to call someone to pick me up from school. I didn't have advanced screen phone that my parents had the ability to buy. And I think the same way, kids should be banned from using ipad/phone until they reach mature age where they can read and filter information.

It's not just that. I mean you can use an iPad to teach your child how to read or play educational games etc. Like unlimited time with an iPad if you only have access to idk kindle, a crossword game and duolingo is not going to "ruin" a kids development either.
Which is what I find so frustrating. If you decide that you want to give your kids an iPad/tablet to have a break or whatever that's fine. But you can literally control what they have access to. if you don't want to limit screen time just limit the apps/internet access. It's really not that difficult :(

Words of advice: Gen Alpha don’t act the way they do because of their birth year, they act like they do because of how their parents raised them. I saw a comment here saying that Gen Alpha is why they won’t become a parent, and frankly that is just absurd. If you raise your children right, they will not be disappointments, and neither will you. The real disappointments are the parents who give these kids screens at age two.

  • @wamyy5

Studies show that before age 10, that’s when parents have the most opportunity to influence their children but it’s clear that number is shrinking lower and lower very quickly due to outside influence infiltrating kids’ minds so much earlier. It took me years and thousands of dollars to get a degree in teaching and child psychology and my first month as a teacher made me regret it all. I quit after a year. Society is a mess, the pandemic messed up a lot of kids development and parents did not adjust well. The kids can't concentrate, their brains all desire constant stimulation through a screen, they don't want to learn unless it's fed to them as a fun tidbit of stimulation with loud sounds and bright colors. My year 5 kids were reading at a year 2 grade, the parents didn't work with their kids, and the kids didn't care (which I don't blame them, they've been conditioned into this). The teachers are getting punished by the bosses and the parents, there is a reason so many teachers are leaving. There is zero reward for teaching right now- we aren't helping kids get where they need to be, we aren't paid enough, we are working so many hours unpaid, and the schools do not support us. We can't be therapists, teachers, and parents all on a salary of 35k a year. It is physically and mentally destroying us. Society needs to change.

There are actually a lot of studies that says that punishment is not actually a good thing, and in a lot of cases it makes things worse. Corporal punishment is never a good thing and can’t be considered as something educational.
Anyway i wanted to share u something that almost every teacher told us, which is to remember that children are people. I know that it sound stupid, but it always helped me. Like is not their fault if they r born after me so i’m gonna respect them. And trust that if u do this they will really became on our side during their education.

Hi! I'm one of the older Gen Alphas here and I would like to say a few things:
    1. NOT all Gen Alphas are dumb and incompetent. I know this varies, but personally, the people I know and go to school with are able to complete their work to the standard required, in fact, some kids even got given more challenging work. But I really am concerned for the children in the clips, they really need to learn how to read, and ASAP (it hurts my soul to see that girl say 'bet-win' when she was asked to read the word between 😭 mainly bcs i am known by my friends for being a nerd and a bookworm etc. and i LOVE expanding my vocabulary whenever i see new words in books and tv shows 🤓)
    2. _In school_ (I emphasised that as I will talk about other situations later) out of all the girls in my class, _no one_ has tantrums and shows disrespect to a teacher. (Albeit, now that I look back on it, some girls do, but they get warned of the punishment and even if they protest, sometimes they still don't listen and have to move and sit at the front of the class) Even in primary school, only a few kids had tantrums and talked back to the teacher, but that was usually because they have issues with learning as well/fast as most kids. (I apologise, but that is the most respectful way that I can think of to put it)
    3. Yes, kids do have tantrums and disrespect authority. I've seen it happen at family gatherings with the younger cousins etc. I should be honest, so I will say that I have before also done that, but after watching quite a number of videos addressing this situation, I realise that the situation is still _very_ bad...
    4. After seeing multiple Instagram accounts (yes i use instagram, _sadly_) which teach people good ways of parenting, to connect with their kids, teach them body positivity, consent etc, I conclude that yes, gentle parenting is a good way of parenting, but only if it's done properly. _How_ is it done _properly_? In my (English) high-school, things are looking DOWN. Currently, the entire cohort of students is in gen-z, and, quite frankly, they're basically just as bad, if not worse, than the gen-alpha kiddos.
Of course, I am the typical 'gifted' student, so maybe I am over-reacting, but not a lesson goes by where I do not feel this rage at the disrespect students can enact.
A teacher says we need to do work. One student talks when it is quiet work, then no-one can collaborate. Another does their make-up and none of it gets confiscated, because the teacher has had to deal with this so many times.
The teachers being underpaid, children being raised by the horrific side of the internet and a burnt out species contribute to this problem.
More personally, the children are mean! I hear a slur every time I walk to a new lesson, and Pride Club, who I'm an ambassador for, has gotten raided, made fun of and been the butt of multiple jokes.
I cannot imagine what it's like in the west, but I am going to be crying myself to sleep by the time I'm doing A-levels at this rate.
Anyhow, have a good day and thank you for a comment that sets me up perfectly to rant.

Idk about the regular classes but the advanced is doing fine. We all score at above profic on the same state tests older gen zoomers and even millennials took. I score at 10.2(grade 10 month 2) on my english state tests. Although there are some really dumb kids tbh… my cousin can’t read, she’s 12 🥶 homeschooled by bad parents tho so it’s not her fault i think..

You kids are doing just fine. I'm a gen z/millenial cusper and around your age early gen z was eating tidepods and getting wheeled to the hospital. There are slow children in every age group throughout history and the older gen is always going to judge the younger one based on the least fortunate specimen they can get their hands on, its the circle of life.
Don't feel too down about it. You don't need their approval, Gen Alpha's not better or worse than the other gens. Do your own thing.

2010 - 2012 is Zalpha, so both Gen Z and Gen Alpha. I was always pretty good at math but as for Reading and Writing I wouldn’t say I am below grade level as I do make the marks. This issue for me being better at math than reading is that as of now is our school basically grades our reading and summaries based off of completion and not accuracy 9 times out of 10 for regular and honors classes. So I get As in English too but at a cost of not improving myself and it doesn’t prepare me for the future. As nice as it is to get an A on my report card, it’s at the cost of not actually growing and I feel like that’s not that big of an issue with math classes because they ACTUALLY teach you what’s going to be on the SAT, ACT, other exams and it actually helps prepare you and expand your knowledge (well despite homework being for completion). Also they made the AP Lang exam slightly easier but that still concerns me a little…

  • @Meronim

I was born in early 2010, raised by gen X parents. I get called lazy when I relax for more than a day, and as a child I was highly encouraged to go outside, rain or shine. I love to read and while I have plenty of classmates that are capable and independent when It comes to their studies, there are definitely a few classmates who just lack the motivation and interest to learn new things in school. I pride myself in being decently smart, but I also struggle with spelling, I always have. I am fluent in reading and I'm ready to learn and correct my mistakes. Most of the time, the problem within schools is young students don't have the motivation to grow, learn and adapt to the world outside their screens.

    • @hugenerd97
      @hugenerd97 Місяць тому +1

The issue is absolutely not the students lacking motivation. The issue is that school as an institution gives little incentive to have motivation in the first place and is so focused on teaching standardized testing that creating an environment that actually nurtures their minds is neglected.
Arts programs are being cut, recess is being cut, even social studies is being cut in a lot of public school systems. Anything that made school fun or interesting or easier to manage is slowly being picked away at, and even if you haven’t seen it happen where you live, I promise it’s happening.
Good, accessible education simply isn’t considered important to enough of our lawmakers. One of the major American political parties actively advocates for cutting funding for the Department of Education. How can all kids possibly be enthusiastic about learning when they live in a society that refuses to value it?
Kids don’t come out hating learning. They don’t start life unmotivated to do anything outside of a screen. They are conditioned and raised that way by an education system that discourages critical thinking and creative initiative then criticizes them when they consequently fall behind.
You seem very well spoken, intelligent, and I applaud your drive. I’m glad that you have seemed to find a love of learning, but I’m so tired of people blaming the kids instead of the systems that they are raised in. There’s a lot of reasons kids might lack motivation. We just need to be empathetic and attentive enough to understand them.

At least if your child is going to hang onto an iPad for hours it will now learn languages with duolingo (or more age appropriate language learning apps) or learn coding or whatever.

And children nowadays shame each other for crap like not having the latest iphone. It happened to my niece, when she came home sobbing and absolutely broken. She had 13, not 14, you see. And that's the end of the world in those little devils eyes.
I want to have children but I don't know what freaking island I need to move on to have them. Because I, as many other adults, am afraid that my will and determination is not enough to win over society pressure, even if I'll try harder than my own parents 10x. That's it.

At least in my country, kids haven't played in the streets since I was a kid in the 2000s. You can arrange play dates (that isn't new either is it?) with other kids, they can play with kids they meet through extracurricular activities like sports or arts, they can play with your friend's kids if they have them too, or with other kids in your family (their cousins, second cousins, etc). Are these things very different where you live? It sounds just like my childhood and my parents and I had no problem "finding" kids for me to play with

I’m a gen Zalpha with a millennial mother and a gen X father: here is my viewpoint(s) with my own generation.
I have to admit, I do do some gen alpha crap sometimes. Am I planning on growing from that? Absolutely. But in school life, I’m constantly surrounded by people who are tainted by the internet. My male classmates? They say skibidi toilet crap. My female classmates? Tainted by what they *think* is more mature (and maybe is), but is really just brain rot. Even my friend group has their own flaws, eg: dirty jokes, dance trends, questionable songs they sing, etc. Imo, the gen z trends are overemphasised in gen alpha due to their desire of imitating their somewhat “remarkable” role models.
My parents aren’t really a problem to me. Not because they let me have an excessive amount of screen time (which they do, but they really don’t intend to and only let me because of work), but because they discipline me well. I can’t really say much since they don’t fully act like millennials though.
I don’t have much more to say, so I guess this concludes my point of view.

We have high averages too, we read books and we do activities!
Luckily I've just always been in smart classes.
Ive been in gifted and now beta club.
We have averages in the 90s and me and my classmates can pick up information very quick to the point that we get a lot of free time.
But I can only speak for myself and the people I know though.
Not every gen alpha cant read or is slow.
Ive been reading long words since I was 3, in pre-k and being babysat.
Please stop adding all of us in one big group of brain rotting dummies.😶
As a 2010, i would rather be labeled as gen z cause of the constant backlash from being born in the same year as many of these outrageous trolls.

@@tornpapers your gonna have to learn self control and how to not follow the crowd.
I've caught my self unknowingly or accidentally falling into that.
Please stay out of drama cause people will fight and cuss a lot to seem older and aggressive.💀
It's not funny, cool or cute!
One friend is enough but making more is cool too! Middle school is when most people are the fakest but sometimes they dont mean it or notice it but watch out.
Make as many associates are you can. (People to talk too but not friends) TRUST! Be confident in yourself and be yourself, you may think you're being judged but your really not, deep down or when with friends, the "cool" people act just like you (how ever you are, someone is always gonna have the same traits😌).
Do NOT, i mean DO NOT pleaseee! Dont let people pressure you into something you dont want to do, you *HAVE* to think before you speak and do!!
      Please omg😭.
This is as much of what I can remember from 6th grade since im actually about to end 7th! I wasn't one of the wild kids looking for attention and I wasn't in drama or big stuff so I cant tell you mistakes just by some friends and enemies experiences. I was shy and all that jazz, but also the opposite at times but I still made tons of friends and associates (be urselff😙). Know your limits on things though, and don't worry, you wont need an example for that!🤗
It's not so easy to give tips though cause I'm still just a minor and I'm still processing my experiences too but I hope that little can help you a ton, it helped me a lot and 6th grade was actually my best year ever.😌
(Fyi: being lonely isn't embarrassing, people don't really care, and if they laugh its mainly they have a positive feeling for you, not crush but yk? So if your parents ever said bullies are jealous of you, it is true. It's not to make you feel better but it is lol. Sometimes not but uhm yeaa.😅)
I hope you have the best 6th grade year ever! Make the most of every school year, you'll never know how it will turn out.❤️
A bad years a lesson for the next.🤗
The rest is for you to figure out and experience, BYEE!❤️😁

I am 12 years old. Gen Alpha. Born in 2012, and I love writing, drawing, math, I play the violin, I write with proper grammar and punctuation, and learned to crochet by watching UA-cam videos. I’m even in an advanced math class. *All* of my classmates know how to read. I hate it when people say that Gen Alpha is doomed cuz *I’m* in Gen Alpha and *I* along with most of my peers, are clearly not doomed. I am trying to teach my 6 year old sister to read as around 6 to 7 years old is when children *typically* start to read. It’s only the ones with bad parents and the ones too young to read that don’t know how to read.

As a 13 year old going 14 in a European country I think it's insane that the younger are getting dumber over in America and other countries because I feel like in school I get overlooked as someone as a good kid and a know it all while I'm just focused and happy to learn because exams are coming up and I don't wanna be in this stereotype of a ipad kid, yes it's okay to do what you want but realistically as children of parents it's our duty to be a child and help and love our parents, it's our duty to be a student and respect our teachers and learn, and maybe if your into a hobby/sport that has classes that's also a duty and your own choice. To be honest through covid in 2020 I felt being stuck to my phone like we all did but I'm not going to be stuck on it forever, we have hopes and dreams and that's not gonna happen in second, a minute, an hour, a day, week, month, year or till to day you die- if you don't put the work, time, and energy. While I'm just trying to be a daughter, a student, and a performer all at once, these other kids I feel are just using their parents money, resources and time just to whatever they want and it goes to no where. The Internet confuses me so much am I more mature than I should be or am I just lazy and ignorant because the Internet only puts out that's going to entertain these stereotypes & life styles into other people, yes it's okay to do skincare literally my mother reinforces me to but don't waste too much resources like money on a million different things on products that will waste, or ipad kids if there's buying games you can definitely do that but get your own money from chores, maybe from gifts. Really the best thing about getting what you want is if you worked to achieve it and that's true in my book. I know social media feels likes it's for teens and I'm not really there yet but I've been already here so I hope you don't mind having a younger audience here too

I'm 12 years old. I dont know if I'm Gen Alpha or Gen Z. I am in seventh grade and I can read, write, I speak two languages that I can read and write in (Arabic and English).
Here is my take on the problem:
I believe the availability of sources like: Google, Tik Tok, UA-cam and most social media is rotting our brains. Parents are giving their children phones and iPads at a very young age. I personally don't have a phone or iPad (I use my sisters and my moms phone and the TV) . First off, people are just one click away from finding out information, So why study or learn? Tik Tok at such a young age can lower your attention span so kids just have trouble learning and focusing. Something I also noticed and personally struggle with is who my role models are. Sometimes I dont know what to follow, I like dolls and playing outside, which to kids my age sound very childish, However I like to do light makeup like: lipgloss and mascara. I hope my role model doesnt become the internet. I feel a bit embarrassed that kids my age cannot read or write. Kids also VAPE?? They talk about how they are failing a class like its FUNNY??
Kids my age are also extremely lazy, I personally do online school and I feel soo lazy doing it I'm getting out soon. The reason I dont go to a public School is because of the lack of respect the students have, The terrible education system, and the way some teachers show that they dont get paid enough, the government should pay teachers enough to actually survive without a second income (at least where I live). I think another issue is parents send their kids to school as if its to babysit them, not to learn. Kids should like school not see it as a prison. I believe kids see school as a prison because many are very privileged and its very easy to make a living off Tik Tok, UA-cam, and Instagram by making mindless content, Which the internet pushes a lot on younger audiences making them lazier.

@@Lele.ilyouuuu Yess! I completely agree. I do all of these also, however the main problem is the internet is pushing gen Alpha's bad behavior. I am speaking from my past experiences. I have not lost complete faith in gen alpha either but regardless its important that these problems are addressed appropriately.
