Thoughts on the trad wife trend & the rich’s obsession with being "poor"?

    • @Salma.Louhichi

I'm always shocked by these trends! Let me give you a sneak peek into the Arab world and what rich countries call "the third world." (I live in Tunisia, so I'm speaking from experience.) Starting with the feminist movement, where they want women to work just like men, here, women have been working for centuries, even more than men. Women have always been working, even if they come from rich families, and we've been maintaining traditional households. If children don't work, chores around the house are considered work until they reach the proper age. For example, I worked most summers because my dad wanted me to learn how to be financially stable and independent, yet one of my life goals is to get married and have a family of my own. As for the "poor," they're obliged to start working at a young age, unfortunately, but this doesn't stop us from getting an education and graduating from the best universities.
People who own their own land, plant their own food, and raise animals are considered rich, not a "poor aesthetic." Even though it's one of the hardest things to pursue in life, we still take care of our lands and raise our children to take care of them after us. Also, we're well known for making our own olive oil! My aunt owns olive trees, and every year our whole family goes to pick olives and then takes them to the olive press to make our own olive oil. We do this yearly, so throughout the year, we always have many buckets that we sell and use. We also make our own bread every week-many women make it every day. If you search for types of bread we have, you'll be surprised to know that every country has its own traditional bread-not just countries, but every town and city.
Even couscous, which is a traditional meal in Tunisia and Morocco, we literally make it from scratch every year and stock it. Another example is chilies, peppers, our Harissa, rose water, and orange blossom water. (My father was literally picking orange blossoms from our tree just yesterday.) These things are typical to make in every Tunisian home, and if a family wasn't able to do so, they'd buy them from their neighbors. I swear these are just a few examples, and still, the women in our family are working. I'm always shocked by these trends! It's as if they're living in a parallel world where they just discovered how to clean their asses with water instead of wiping, lol.

The traditional wife culture is problematic because it reinforces outdated gender roles, restricts women's autonomy and potential, and undermines the principles of equality and individual freedom. Even if a husband can provide materially, it doesn't justify perpetuating harmful societal norms that limit women's choices and opportunities.
Even if a wife romanticizes traditional roles on her own, it doesn't change the underlying issues. Romanticizing traditional roles can still perpetuate harmful gender norms and restrict personal freedom and fulfillment. It's important to critically examine societal expectations and strive for relationships based on equality, mutual respect, and individual agency.
The obsession with romanticizing poverty or traditional culture among the rich can be damaging. It glamorizes hardship and the real struggles faced by those in poverty, while reducing women to status symbols or objects of desire, perpetuating inequality and harmful stereotypes. This fixation on superficial qualities and traditional roles often leads to a lack of personal fulfillment and missed opportunities for genuine connection, hiding pursuit of meaningful relationships based on equality, respect, and authenticity.
At the same time I don't think we have no right to judge them it's their choice after all.

I don't think these people are pretending to be poor. Why does being wealthy mean having a glitzy, glamorous life? What if these people just choose to live modestly instead of living outside their means to put on a show for us? Honestly, If I were a millionaire, I wouldn't spend my wealth on Hermes bags and Lamborghinis to impress others. I'd drive a normal car, make my meals from scratch, and continue to build my wealth. People like Nara Smith and Ballerina Farm are smart. Just because you have the money, doesn't mean you need to indulge in luxury.

@@U_quintessential.Kit's not outdated just because you don't like it. 😂 Majority of people on this planet live this way. What autonomy and potential exactly? People like you are so disgustingly misogynistic all while pretending to be the opposite. If you tell a woman who's a stay at home mother that she is less than because she's not chasing a girlboss life, you're the problem.
I have so much individual freedom and can live my best life, I'm also his equal in my worth but I don't WANT to be equal as in his societal role. I'm not a man and I don't want to be expected to fulfill the roles men fulfill. Also, idk why you people always think women never had anything in their backpackets for worst case scenarios, trad wives always knew how to bake, cook, tailor, sew, farm, etc. They could always work if they had to because their husband passed or got ill or whatever. It's not like they just sit at home and watch TV. How come yall always preach about romanticizing your life but when trad women find joy in it you attack them? Absolutely vile.

People need to be realistic. Of course you can do whatever you want to but don't be delusional. Your husband could cheat and leave you for someone younger like all these poor women have been telling us on social media lately, they've been left with nothing except their own kids. And even if your husband might be the best one in the world and always loves you - what if he becomes ill or even dies? Could happen to anyone. That's why you need to have a back up plan, education and be prepared to be able living on your own if you'd have to. Women fought for these things for a reason.

80% of divorce are initiated by women. This fantasy world where men keep on leaving women is not real. If it happened to you, you represent less than 21% of divorce stats. Also wealthy women who are trad wives (I say wealthy and not just rich) usually got pretty good prenups and even pretty big life insurance on the husband in case he dies

    • @itsalwayshalloweenexceptwh5118
      @itsalwayshalloweenexceptwh5118 9 місяців тому +2

@@Law_Abiding_Citizen359 women initiating divorces doesn't mean they're the ones giving up on the actual relationship. It tells you nothing about who did what, the only thing it tells you is that women moreso than men are willing to go through with filing the paperwork. For example your husband could go off and cheat, even go so far as to go live with his gf and you're still married on paper. If he thinks filing the paperwork is too much hassle, you're the one that has to do it if you want a divorce. I've heard countless stories of unhappily married couples where no matter how miserable they are, the husband is dragging his feet on the actual divorce paperwork so the woman has to file for it.
If the marriage is already dead then simply not filing for divorce won't save it.
If you want to prove that it's predominantly women giving up on relationships/marriages, then you're going to have to look at a different statistic and dig into the reasons why.
People remaining married also doesn't mean it's a successful marriage, even though lots of people use "successful mariage" to mean a couple that remained married. They could be miserable together but not go through with divorce for several reasons. Often those reasons are financial.

@@tondaniraluswinga2590 It's not just about influencers, but also about ordinary people. Let's admit that being/becoming an influencer is not as easy as it seems, of course it is easier to be one if you yourself are from a rich family or already have a bag of money like Nara (what does she have to do with it, speaking for everyone?). Now, if an ordinary housewife’s husband got sick/died (God forbid)/cheated and left, and they have 5 children and she has never worked and she is young. A husband may “go for milk” and not help HIS OWN children (and this often happens in all countries 🤷🏽‍♀️). And no matter how educated a woman is and has money, it will be very difficult for her to raise children, and if you imagine that some girls do not have education and work experience... this is a complete fuck-up, because you need a job to feed your family, and if she has no work experience, it is not a fact that she will be hired, even despite her diplomas and good grades. What I always miss with videos about tradwives is that they need to be called out on the fact that while they sell the fantasy of a obedient wife they are in reality very tough businesswomen. With the money from content creation alone they are far from being financially dependent on their husband. I’m glad that you pointed it out. They are building their own brands and image with this content bc it is very controversial and the algorithm loves it. The most comments under these vids are women preaching to not go down that road. They cleverly use ragebait combined with selling the dream of a easy life without a 9-5. they get two crowds at once and money is flowing in big time. They are very clever businesswomen that’s a fact.

True, they have their social media knowledge/business acumen & independent savings to fall back on but most 'influencers' are not financially successful. So that still isn't a good safety net for most young and impressionable women who do try to follow them
And also as the algorithm changes and people something else to get upset about, that content will stop bringing quite so many views. Unless they pivot their content or already have a good funnel set up by that point, even the best and most successful tradwife accounts won't be able to keep a steady income from it for that long
Edit: I watched the rest of the video and the case studies she used aren't even tradwives they're just straight up influencers who cook. She's also just using the tradwife angle to make us comment...
In general this video either chooses the wrong clips to make it's point or perhaps it doesn't really know what point it's trying to make.

I see these "trad wife" / "stay at home girlfriend" as clever marketing at best or dangerous trap, at worst. Any woman who is over 30 knows that kind of relationship would be unsustainable in real life, only very young girls could fall for that crap. And there lies the danger. Look at those women who present as "trad", they are all extremely young and beautiful, not one over 30 or God forbid 40! Can you think of why? Can you actually imagine that charade lasting for 5 or 10 years? Woman having the same day over and over and over and presenting to her husband every day as a living doll with no flaws so he doesn't leave her and takes care of her? Many if not all women over 30 would tell you that's nonsense and it would never work! No matter how rich he is. She will and would get tired of that in few years, and later she could develop some health issues as people do during years of life, and not feel or look so hot, she could start resenting her husband and he could resent her for "doing nothing" and if you, God forbid, get sick so that your looks are gone, you are in deep, deep trouble. Even if your husband is really nice genuine great man, at one point you will both have to see how pointless all that presentation is.
I am just saying, all those women who promote this, are maybe 19-23 and that makes young girls think it's a fairytale. And that's where the danger is. We should be aware there are no such thing as fairytale in life. There is no such thing as perfect life, it's all unpredictable and very subjective. Not one size fits all. This "trend" could produce many many horrible marriages, and many miserable women in several years. Sure, you can't hate because it's not ok for influencer to hate, but I really think this trend is vicious and dangerous for very young women who think this is escape from real life. It's not. Be aware. The worst men love this trend, they want a woman who they can control and who can not escape them, ever. It may seem cute and macho at the beginning but after several years, not so cute at all. I don't like this one bit.

A marriage´s quality isn´t based upon the working dynamics but the respect dynamics. No amount of each person having their own job is going to make them be more in love. The opposite, as being stressed out from unfulfilling jobs that pay less in this shitty economy that is inflated by the amount of jobs is not conducive to love. While there is always a fad and bad faith actor behind every movement, you have to engage with the ideas in an intellectually honest manner rather than hypothesize the worst case scenario and say that is representative of the idea.
The divorce rates are bad regardless of whether both partners work or the roles are traditional... it´s almost as if the issues lie somewhere else.

    • @biljam972
      @biljam972 9 місяців тому

@@zerothehero.takeasip6612 you got me wrong. This is not about being housewife or househusband. It's ok not to work and stay home. I am talking about idealized dynamics of fairytale marriage where roles are FIRMLY set for both people, and they have to play them each and every day. I might not described this well, but the point is relationship is not role playing. And it's dangerous to get married to someone who expects pretty, always happy and perfectly made up wife, who is never tired, sick or unhappy, waiting for him at home and wife who "knows her place". It has nothing to do with real traditional marriages. My grandma was traditional, she lead the whole house and worked her butt off every day, she was a total hero and bad-ass! She was housewife but far far away from these pure for esthetic and marketing role plays.
What I am also saying this model "you listen and do what I say, I make money" could attract the worst men, controllable narcissists who won't let you leave.
Again, nothing to do with real housewives or traditional wives, this is a pure "trend".

@@zerothehero.takeasip6612 Having your own income and money in your bank account that other people cannot touch means you have more options (you can leave the relationship quickly if you need to), more safety and makes it more likely you're together because you want to instead of needing to for financial reasons.
Being financially dependent on your partner is just not a good idea, regardless of how much respect there is both ways. Someone can lose respect for their partner in a second.
Divorce rates aren't a measure of how many relationships are unhappy. There are a lot of unhappily married people who stay married, and there were a lot more in the past (going by what I know about my parents generation) because of increased social stigma about divorce and less financial independence for women.
Being the stay at home wife/gf is a lot more fun if you have safety money.

Its really hard to adult. Few tips I learnt cooking for myself. Time is your biggest resource when cooking. Like you I struggle as a dude to cook, clean and excercise while studying as well which is on top of part time work. Like I never feel I have enough time and if I do have time I spend it just de-stressing(doom scrolling tiktok/youtube). I find that food Influencers teach you how to make food as a hobby but how to make the food while going through daily life. So here are the tips I learnt.
      1. Fridge and microwave are the best devices you can have. Never make more than 3 takeout boxes worth of 1 dish, this helps with variety so you dont get tried of the same meal. Its faster to make 3 meals all at once instead of 3 meals individually.
      2. Cook multiple dishes at the same time and refrigerate. When you cook multiple dishes simultaneously (helps if protein is similar e,g (chicken adobo, butter chicken , chicken roast)) it is faster. You save time with veggie/meat prep, simulateanous cooking and cleaning up. You spend longer in the kitchen but it saves you loads of time and if you want to give food .
      3. Often times the carbohydrate doesnt need to be refrigerated such as pasta or rice or steamed potatos, these can be cooked without much attention, just set it up with a timer and comback when read. Rice is S-tier, as you can get fresh rice with like 2 minutes of effort with a rice cooker.
I hope this helps. I havent got this whole adulting thing figured out as well.

Having a farm ≠ poverty. Thus having a farm ≠ poverty larping. Idk those influencers but that seems like it could be a very beneficial and educational experience for their children and a good environment.
The biggest concern about rich people in agriculture is how they treat the laborers. But if they are "doing everything even though they don't have to" then there wouldn't be laborers to mistreat..
not gonna make a habit of defending the upper/ruling class but i think learning and doing these kinds of skills is a great way to raise their kids, and being outdoors is great for kids too. I would want every kid to have these opportunities is all.

Tradwife doesn't necessarily mean total financial dependence. I know a lot of tradwives and they often work part time/from home. Perhaps not the traddest of the trad wives, but it's a step closer. The ones who I know that had trouble were the ones with no backup plan. Get a degree/certificate and keep it current. It was the unprepared ones that were left in trouble when husband ditched or died. The prepared ones ate ramen for a bit, but ultimately did fine for themselves and their children.

It's also really hard on the body and can cause chronic conditions later on in your 40s and 50s. If you have cows or other livestock you have no days off. Getting up so early and living in a very rural area can isolate you socially and make it harder to socialize unless you are good friends with other farmers who live close to you.

That all takes money though. And the husbands of these trad wives control the finances (most of the time). These dudes are fine with the women cooking for them because they benefit from it but most likely wouldn’t want to invest a ton of money into a hobby that could or could not make them money in return.
