I love this place and can’t wait to get back! It’s funny watching this 6 years later, having seen how much more knowledgeable and polished you have become.
This is so rich. I know the Alabama Hills and have hiked the Sierra Nevada from Yosemite to Mount Whitney, and you have reintroduced me to an old friend. I can feel that rough granitic surface under my feet and have a new understanding of the Range of Light. Thank you.
+Jim Keener That's great to hear, thank you for watching.
Thomas,
Excellent video as always!! If you're ever in Ontario, there are many spectacular areas to shoot. Especially in autumn!!
Your black and white image of Lone Pine Peak at the end is excellent. I know that this is a few years old by this posting, but thanks for the memories of my younger years as a climber. - Jim
This may be the first UA-cam comment I've ever left but I can't watch another of your vids without commending you on your work. I absolutely love the feel of your vids and I enjoy going on your journeys. Your work is definitely inspiring. Keep doing what you do Thomas!
Thank you so much for taking the time to comment. It is very much appreciated.
My part of the world. Beautiful photos of the Alabama Hills and the Eastern Sierra Mountains. I love it there. Great video, you explain things so easily :-)
You always manage to get a great photo no matter where you are. Love it.
Just wanted to comment in general that I enjoy your on location videos...I'm currently working in a location overseas where I don't get the chance to shoot AT ALL...so living vicariously through your videos until I get home has been a pleasure!
I live about 3 hours from Alabama Hills... its a spectacular place! So cool that you came here. :)
What a lovely shoots
Thank you very much for sharing your experience with us.
looking forward to the next one
Thanks for watching. I'm glad you enjoyed the video.
Your videos are much less frequent than other channels, but far more interesting. Keep up the good work!
Thanks. This is because a lot of my outings are quite boring and probably wouldn't make for interesting videos.
+Thomas Heaton I find that what you might think of as mundane and boring might be the key I need as an amateur to unlock my photographic genius and inspiration. Please keep the videos coming. I am inspired.
I'm glad you're inspired. That is all I want in life. I should also mention that it is very difficult to make these videos, which is another reason they are not too frequent. More videos will follow. Thanks.
+Thomas Heaton are you a fulltime photographer or do you do anything else on the side?
An amazing place Thomas, stunning sky above you. the feeling of lonelines should be absouletly. Undoubtedly a great place to enjoy, congrats a great video, once more.
Your videos are gold. Great explanation of your methodology. Thank you.
Love your videos and photos! I travel through Lone Pine and the Sierra Nevada all the time. California is blessed to have these amazing locations.
Just to let you know, Sierra means mountain range, hence Sierra Nevada Mountains is redundant.
Thanks for all your work bringing us these wonderful videos. In a time which is for many is very messed I really enjoy them. Almost like taking a road trip!
never change, man. never change. keep putting out this exact stuff
I might change. What if I get offered a multimillion pound deal to shoot a video like Peter Lik? Only joking. I will always keep it real and honest.
Love your commitment to your videos you make. It's great to see your passion and what you do.
That's very kind. Thanks a lot.
great video mate. I'm learning a lot from your videos
Another great video and great images every day I'm learning to look at my surroundings in a different way, thanks
Your videos are always interesting , fun & entertaining. I enjoy them.
Another brilliant, informative, inspirational video.Real pleasure to watch.
Thanks. That means a lot.
Thank you Thomas another great video! You come up with amazing compositions!
I live in California and spend a lot of time in our mountains. This was inspiring. I love that you focus on the composition instead of the camera settings or gear. Always so interesting.
I like the boulder image more than tje panoramic. This is another fun of photography, you never know what you're going to have.
Thanks! I live in Northern California and have been having trouble composing the cluttered scenes around me, this was a big help!
As always - a really brilliant walk-through of your thinking process. Love your videos. Best Regards.
Great video the way you describe the art of photography. This is inspiring thanks Tom keep them coming.
+George Wilson Thank you, that's very kind.
I love the first two shots, the pano and the boulder shot in color. Not so much for the black and white. I appreciate your dedication, which I am learning quite a bit as an aspiring 'landscape' photography! Thanks!
Yeah, I know what you mean. Not all of my shots are to everybody's taste, but i try to show the process of how I come to take them, rather that trying to show how amazing the images are, which they are not. It's a subjective. Thanks for your feedback.
Thank you Thomas again great video, inspired me to go out and take landscape photos
Another great video Thomas. I really enjoy seeing where you travel and your thoughts on finding images. There are tons of channels that obsess over camera tech. I like that yours shows the more important act of creating images.
That's exactly what I want to get across. Thanks for your comment.
You make absolutely amazing videos. They're all very educating and also a lot of fun to watch. You explain everything in such a nice and energetic way, great job.
This is amazing. I feel really inspired, not only the photographs you've taken but much more by the way you're all alone camping the whole night there just to capture the beautiful sunrise shots. I guess many other photographers would feel the same. Love it!
Hey. Thanks a lot. I'm glad you're enjoying the videos.
Another great video with some great images! Nicely done
Cheers, thanks for watching.
Once again a great video, your work is amazing.
Wonderful work, Please continue such great photography :)
Really enjoyed this Thomas and thank you for talking us through your thoughts, filter choice and composition. Really look forward to your posts on here.

Really great videos. You are quite good at what you do and your videos are educational and entertaining. Keep them coming.
your videos are really inspiring for going out and taking wonderful shots. Thank You :)
Great shot. Love your guidance.
Thanks Thomas for posting this video. Love the pano and the b/w. I appreciate you walking us through your thought process in setting up each shot. I love going out west, and have started doing more scouting and less shotgunning my shots to find the better view to shoot. Thanks for the inspiration to shoot and keep'm coming. Best, Bob
Fantastic video Thomas! I loved the walkthrough of your composition!
Your videos are absolutely amazing, Thomas! The content and realism is stunning! It's so inspirational for my photography! Keep up the amazing work mate!

You're welcome. Thank you for watching.
@Thomas Heaton Great videos. I really like your style of shooting, one man in the wilderness with just a Go-Pro to record on. Your presenting style is relaxed and informative and your images are fantastic. I really enjoy your videos, keep up the good work. Cheers Derek
+Derek Gordon Thanks Derek. That's very kind of you to say.
i really love this type of videos, thank you for sharing
Next time you're in the USA I would recommend a trip into the Sierras . We hiked the JMT last September and it was fantastic. You'd love it. Great video as always. Keep 'em coming!
loving your videos thomas .love your videos of the lake district .already looking at a tent to get up there and get some shots .cheers
jon
Your videos are incredibly inspiring.. And I know you don't intend them to be educational in the tutorial sense but they're educational in the sense that one can learn from watching someone who is very skilled in their craft.
fantastic videos. easy to understand. well done sir.
You make the best videos, very insightful! Thanks for posting
Awesome work .keep it up you have inspired me to try harder with my photography.
Great viewing as always!!!
You are such a great photographer and an inspiration for us.The trips, the way you photograph and the fact that you are doing it solo means a lot!Keep it up Thomas :)
Wow... this video is amazing. I think I'm going to learn a lot of things from your videos. Things I would have probably never been able to learn with any book or similar resource. Thanks!
Thanks. I wouldn't give up on books just yet. I love a good read for a bit of inspiration.
great vid. love the process and forethought.
Thomas, I just found your videos this weekend and have watched them all. I watch a lot of youtube videos on photography, but none of both taught AND inspired me like yours. I really like the behind the scenes work you do. Others that simply teach are great for learning a discrete skill, but your's breath life into the learning... and I really appreciate.
One question I have for you, and you may answer this somewhere and I haven't found it. Could you share a bit about the settings you use on the GoPro when you are filming yourself?
Thanks so much.
Tony
+Tony Baldasaro Thank you for watching my videos and thanks for your kind words. With regards to GoPro, I keep it simple. 30fps, 1080p SUPER VIEW. That's it.
Thomas, I'm always looking foreward to your videos. They are both ispirational and educational at the same time, and I thank you for taking the time to make them. Pressing that subscribe button was a really good desicion.
Thank you and thanks for the subscribe.
Thomas another great video as always. The images are awesome.
Thanks a lot. Much appreciated.
Try to make your way here and be my guest on my UA-cam show Somewhere in America Wil Moore. I love in Pennsylvania.
Another great insight into your work Thomas. Thank you from a very grateful subscriber.
Thanks for watching and thank you for subscribing. I really appreciate it.
Thomas, your passion is so infectious and I really look forward to seeing your next offering. Would be really interested in arranging a photo walk with you one day!
+Nick Powell Thank you. A photo walk is a great idea. Maybe this can be organised one day.
+Thomas Heaton Please keep me posted, would be happy to work together to get people to attend. Was thinking somewhere in Wales?
This is the highlight of my friday, Thank you!

Hi Thomas. Enjoyed your Alabama Hills video. I have been there once but did have much luck on getting a good shot. I will be heading back in a week or so and with luck and your suggestions things will turn out better.
Good work mate, Love the simplicity in your approach. Keep it up. I like to refer to your videos for ideas and technique.
That's great to hear. Thanks.

Cool intro, I love your videos. Wish they were longer :(
Another brilliant video.still don't understand how you get such detail in the foreground and background, top work
Love ur videos... very inspiring
I would of love to see the photo in color, love your work!!!
All alone enjoy life, enjoy photography. Nice
YOu can see the moon and I think Venus in the background so close together ha haaa . Hope you got a quick shot of that! :) BTW I totally agree with you about stitching in Photoshop being really good... also in lightroom. REally nice results.
amazing work!
You are a lucky man with fire in your hands!!!
I don't know what you mean, but thank you :)
great work as always - really enjoy your vids. keep it up
Great video! I saw a great shot at 11:30, when you walked us through your shot. Thanks again!
+Nicolaas Strik That's what I thought when I saw it. Actually if I found a composition like this, that would be my image. What a beautiful place. But I have to say that Thomas found really interesting one - or maybe more interesting according to light situation and B&W plans. Just saying. I'm beginner.
There are compositions everywhere. If I saw them all, I would be a millionaire. I am far from a perfect photographer; still learning, still missing shots and still making mistakes. This is what makes it so much fun, it's a life long learning process.
I totally agree. I just identified with Nicolaas. It was meant everything but criticism. I can't imagine myself being there and searching for compositions as easily as you. I really like your videos, I learned a lot from them. I think I am good at understanding all the basic technical stuff and how things work, but I'm really terrible at composing my images. I have really a lot to learn and I look forward to every opportunity as much as to yours or others next video. Keep doing what you do, you inspire a lot of other people.
Nice dude. Great shooting location. Great work on your vids!
Again, a inspiring video from a stunning location! Must feel awkward to talk to yourself in the middle of the desert ;)
Not at all. It's only ever awkward when other people are around.
Make more videos dude ! They are awesome an I learn a lot
Thank you for your good work, Tom, and for your willingness to share your knowledge with others; I’ve learned so much from your videos over the past few months since discovering your channel. After an acquisition of the company where I worked for many years, I was “re-orged” out of my position in continuing medical education, where I worked with physicians who have a similar mindset about teaching others what they know (check out the Hippocratic Oath, wherein physicians vow “to hold him who taught me this art equally dear to me as my parents … to look upon his [or her] offspring as equals to my own siblings, and to teach them this art, if they shall wish to learn it, without fee or contract”). You truly have a teacher's heart. I just returned from a few days sleeping under the stars in the Alabama Hills, a few hours north of where I live in Pasadena, CA, and an area where my son and I spent many weekends fly fishing when he was younger. I was able to practice many of your lessons, and I am grateful. Cheers, Lon
Wonderful!
