Wow Nick, during my wonderings up and down "California's backyard" as I called it, Hwy 395, in the mid 70's I discovered a 55 mph dirt road off hwy 168 out of "Big Pine" that leads into Death Valley through the Saline Valley north of the National Park. It's about a 50 mile drive which passes an old house with an artisan spring, an old borax mine operation, and beautiful mountian vistas. I even stopped and saw a huge "American Eagle" above a revenue along side the road one time; really cool. If you haven't noticed yet the wild flowers are going to be great this year. Have a great time in DV.

I'm so jealous. As a 5'2" female, going into the desert alone, at night, is basically the beginning of a Criminal Minds episode. When I was hiking in the Black Hills alone, I would stop into ranger stations to let them know where I would be going, and then check back in when coming back.
It goes without saying that your photography is amazing. I love that your vibe in these videos is always chill, but never blasé. You get excited. As well you should, this world is beautiful.

Beautiful shots - I prefer the morning photos because they less harsh shadows and more structure in the rocks. The Alabama hills remind me on the rock formations at Joshua Tree National Park (although it’s now more than 10 years ago) also a photogenic area.

On the one hand I am envious, having grown up in the southwest. On the other, I know first hand the joys of finally getting out from under the grips of old man winter. I just finished a week long trip to Florida after a brutal winter here in Buffalo, NY. So nice to be in short sleeves for a change. Great shots, so much to photograph there.

I was in Lone Pine ~13 years ago just passing through en route to Big Pine to spend the night there before heading to Mono Lake. I hadn't even heard of the Alabama Hills at the time; only found out about them after seeing them pop up in landscape photography videos. Can't believe I completely missed a chance to see them when I was quite literally already there.

Love shooting in the Alabama Hills! We Southern Californians might quibble a bit as Lone Pine is more "Central California." Outside of Joshua Tree, most of us true Southern Californians need to do some serious driving to get to something decent to shoot. We've got some small stretches of coast and some dunes down near San Diego, but the pickings are pretty slim. Most of us spend the majority of the year being jealous of you Oregon/Washington people. We average two nice sunsets per year. Looking forward to seeing your Death Valley shots!

My camera club just went out to shoot in the full moonlight this past weekend in the Everglades. Talk about a creepy place. Lots and lots of prehistoric beings to scare the beejezus out of you. I've been at night alone and every cricket, every frog, every nocturnal bird is making noise and it's soooo amplified, it'll drive you nuts! LOL Anyway...

One of my favorite areas to visit. I know that you will be with Erin for the next week or so, however after the workshop over DV way, if you have time you may want to consider a day or two trip towards the west and see if you can get some of the spectacular wildflowers blooms coming in. About 300 miles SW of Bishop is a often missed but very nice NP at Carrizo Plains National Monument. The blooms are coming in and after you are done at DV the timing may be perfect for a possible Super Bloom. Give it consideration if you time allows. Safe travels and much success on the upcoming Workshop. Enjoy Panamint Dunes area since it appears you may end up doing a night over that area.

The Alabama Hills are on my bucket list and hopefully I'll get there this year. But, aren't you ascared of aliens, monsters, and cryptids ripping into your tent while you're in there and having them pull you out to do strange things to you? My greatest fear is to be framing up a subject and then turn around just to be face to face with some spider like....THING....that'll bite me in the face causing me to become paralyzed and then having the creature suck all the juices out of my body while I'm helplessly immobile but still awake! Good video. I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one to visit an area and to just get one or two shots a session.
