Well done brother. I am a comic book dude. I just sold my collection in August for 500K. You are right folks just dont understand the upside of collection investments.
Nice buy, hope you made some money. Idk how it is in football but in the NBA the top rookies these days come out with ridiculous prices out the gate. Everyone wants to find that next Luka Doncic flip. I was hoping to buy a rookie Lamelo ball card before he started the season (he ended up winning rookie of the year) but his price was so high right out the gate.
I really hope we see more card videos in 2021 and beyond, this is actually how I found you. Congrats on the sale. The Gretzky will be a 5 million dollar card in the next 17 months. It will have massive appreciation for the new buyers.
Congrats on the sale Patrick! To all that want to expand their portfolio and get into cards, PLEASE do your research. There is so much information out there. The game has changed dramatically lately. Fortunately you can watch a video on just about every question you may have. Put the time in and good luck!
My son loved Pokémon cards as a young kid. He and his friends collected many at a neighborhood game store. When his friends were no longer interested in them, he bought their cards. Many in great shape! He still has all of them...
I've been collecting cards myself, mostly hockey and football since the early 90's, got a pretty good collection. The best card I ever had was a Topps Gretzky Rookie. It wasn't graded, but I'd say it was at least an 8. I ended up trading that card for a $500 guitar I really wanted at the time. Ended up having to pawn the guitar about 6months later. That was my biggest card mistake. 🙂 Gretzky was a wizard on ice, loved watching him and Lemieux back in the day! We've never seen such prolific scorers since. The Great One! 99🏒
I am a flipper started with 20k now I have almost 200k worth, turned into a collector by accident with the mj rookies so I started back with almost nothing and flipping it back into hundreds of thousands
It is so funny and crazy at the same time people pay thousands of dollars for paper pictures of sport players, which cost couple of cents to produce. What a dumb world...

I remember your video from a year and a half ago. When I saw those 2 Gretzky's that sold I thought because of the pop they could very well be yours. Congrats on the return on them!!!
Patrick, I've been buying Nolan Arenado BB rookie cards for the last few years. Do the research on this guy. 8 consecutive gold gloves at 3rd base, Mike Trout like offensive numbers with some categories better than Trout. NL home run and RBI champ a few years back, super under valued cards and player because he plays for a bad team and receives no press coverage. This guy and his cards are under the radar.
Pat, you talked about sports cards, but there are other collectable cards that people may be interested in. I would be interested to see you do a interview with some of the bigger UA-camrs who are investing and flipping sports and collectible cards.
Put on Catherine Austin Fitts. She used to be the HUD secretary. Super intelligent woman. And her deal is economic analysis. Love your show, put her on.
Super interesting subject matter!! Would love to see an interview with someone who works for psa or has a substantial collection. The Card Game is the Wild Wild West
Patrick if you read this there's a huge market for playing cards. There's huge margins on them. For example you back a project on kickstarter thats designed by a popular designer or magicians, cardist, etc. You buy at 12 to 15 each and sell each for 50 to 500. There's a market and community in playing cards.
This is how I am with comic books. The “vintage” comics are Golden and silver age cards. There’s a lot of comics that ready to explode if some characters can make appearances in films.
I used to be big into cards, collectibles and autographs. I started back in the mid-1980's when there was Topps, Donruss, and Fleer in the U.S. and O Pee Chee in Canada. So it was pretty easy to get decent cards because the only other sets that came out were their update sets. But then in about 1989 - 90 Bowman and Upper Deck came along. Wow those Upper Deck cards were head and shoulders above everyone else in quality. Eventually a whole slew of premium cards came out as a result and with it came.....manipulation. Although most people didn't see it coming. After all Sports Collector's Digest and Beckett were there to keep things honest. But could they? No. It became impossible to "invest" because you had to find the exact rookie card of literally dozens of sets that would set you back a good chunk of change. And as fast as you bought the card would suddenly drop in value. And forget getting "book value". If a card had a book value of $1000 you could at best figure on getting 40% to 50% on the outside. Not bad if you paid $100 for it or even got it in a random pack but what if you bought it for a 20% "discount" at $800? I divested myself of all but a few cards. I think I have a full set of 1987 Topps in the box yet. Maybe a couple of others too. And my 1956 Phil Rizzuto. I did it at the right time because the market was flooded and the house of cards collapsed. Hopefully, things have changed. But know this- old doesn't mean valuable.
When I got into collecting baseball cards as a kid in the 80s and early 90s my dad asked his mom for his card collection back. She was to have saved them in her attic. I am from Milwaukee and my dad grew up near the baseball stadium when Hank Aaron, Eddie Mathews, etc played for the team. He used to get there early for batting practice and get autographs. He said he had Mickey Mantle cards, an autographed Roberto Clemente card, etc. My grandmother decided one day he was never going to ask for that "junk" and threw them all away without even asking him. He was going to hand them down to me. I am only a couple years younger than Patrick. I can only imagine how many tens of thousands of dollars worth of cards she tossed out. 😥
I used to collect cards when I was younger but nothing too serious, now it is game used jerseys. I have guys like Randall Cunningham, Deion Sanders, Reggie White, Cortez Kennedy, Billy Sims, Mike Singletary, Wilber Marshall, Patrick Peterson & Jerry Rice.
Well, I collect a little bit of everything when it comes to sports cards. I have a VERY VERY WELL DIVERSIFIED set if sports cards. I have a good selection of Notre Dame Players from Football, Basketball, Baseball, and Hockey. I don't care what professional team that they only or have played for. ALK that interests me is the fact that they played for The University of Notre Dame. In addition, I also collect Dallas Cowboys Football Players from starting back in the 1970's. Recently, I have purchased a FEW Luka Doncic cards as long as they were $50.00 or below. I also collect individual baseball players such as Nolan Ryan as well as players from The New York Yankees and The Los Angeles Dodgers.
