I Built A New Garden Room! Gravel and Brick Edging
Вставка
- Опубліковано 5 тра 2023
- In this weeks episode 😉 I’m in the back garden building a new garden room area with brick edging and gravel. I’m creating a new grass pathway that leads to a secret garden. Well it’s not a secret yet, but that’s the vision for now.

Hi, I’m a 74 yr old grandma living 120 miles southwest of San Antonio. I say y’all to everyone. I’ve had to cut back my yard work in the last year - a knee with no cartilage, a torn rotator cuff and bicep and diabetes. I’ve always lugged around rocks and pots. I ordered me a really low wagon without high sides. It makes it easier to roll mulch, etc out of back of my SUV & to move plants and groceries. Sometimes I’m super pooped and have to rest a day b4 continuing with my work. Grandkids and yard maintenance keep me living with Gods help. You’re doing great. Keep up the amazing work.🌸💕🤗🦩
Hi Vicki. Thank you for sharing your testimony. All things are possible… you inspire me to keep going!
I have some of the same issues. My daughter found me a red wagon that works god for me. Hugs
I'm 73 and found this last year life changing in that age caught up with me seemingly overnight. I'm with you change the way you approach the garden and carry on !!!
I’m blessed with a local nursery that delivers my potting soil and puts it close to where ever I’m going to use it for no extra charge.
I never measure and just go for it. Lots of spaces with rocks in gaps.
I love a girl who can say, "I put a.... in my yard" and really did it all herself!
I put 26 bags of white rock in my back yard along with some beautiful plants...The people at Walmart yard area would not even help me load the bags; so I really did it all.....and proud💥💥(70+)
That's awesome!
Hey Lynda. 26 bags is a lot!!! You did that. I respect the sweat😅 it’s so rewarding when done 😊 Good for you. I’m pushing 60 in two years and hope I can keep going for a long time!
It's been a couple of years, no finger prints visable for months after...lol (now 74 so I may have slowed down a bit) just refinished extetior patio french doors🤣
I’ve had to accept the fact there are some things I can no longer do and that’s okay..if I can’t do it and can’t hire anyone to do it, it simply doesn’t get done. I am consolidating areas and cutting down with planting areas. My mother’s beloved yard turned into a jungle in the last few years of her life and I am determined to have a minimal maintenance yard.
"There's no such thing as regret in the garden." That's a quote I must remember. :)
Indeed! :)
I like your creative idea, and building the garden on your own!! You may need weed fabric under the brick.
An absolutely hilarious and talented Gardener!!! 😂🌿
OMG!! You are my person! LOL! I garden like you....one project after another and doing/using whatever it takes!!!
Hi Shelly! “You are my person” LOL. I love that 🤣 WE do what it takes! Thank you so much.
Oh my gosh, your commentary is cracking me up🤣 your garden looks beautiful! I love the little bridge and it looks like your dog loves it too. So cute!
I love your humor and I love your garden. Glad I found you. Subscribed 😀
Kudos to your nephew for being such a great helper!!!!😇🤗
I have the same gardening style as yours and I just love your yard. I say that you can never have too much brick and pea gravel!
Hi Sixty Something Style. Let me start with, love that user name! I’m knocking on sixty and great minds think alike. I’m not what to call my style at times. I love rustic in the back and more formal or cottage style in the front. Mostly just go with the flow!
Was scrolling and stopped because I heard these words “I suggest you do so and so but I’m not going to because I don’t have it”, YET YOU WERE CONTINUING TO MAKE IT THE BEST YOU COULD WITH WHAT YOU HAD rather than not at all!! Bravo 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻❣️
Thank you so much 😊 I’m glad you heard those words that made you stop by😀
Flaws add Character…For sure…I appreciate you Sharing…Salute!!!🍃🍃🍃
Finally someone who can appreciate all my flaws. 😁LOL! Thank you so much for watching.
I SO love your personality. And your yard is gorgeous. I wish I had a best friend like you. Because this is me ALL DAY LONG. I am currenly digging a pond for our ducks. But did 3 large cottage gardens. And laid our driveway myself. I gets it done like you! 😂🎉🎉🎉🎉
Hi there Warrior! My sentiment exactly about having a best friend that’s like minded in the garden and doing projects? Congratulations on digging a pond! Wow. My grandson wants to do that as well. That’s awesome. Laying your driveway yourself is even more impressive. I wish I could see pics 😀
It looks awesome and I live the pea gravel 👍❤️😎
Have mercy! Watching you is like watching me. We have the matching gazebos and so many of the same structures! I’m cheering you on!
Hahaha you have me laughing “It ain’t straight y’all it ain’t straight this make me ocd - this make me kinda crazy out here talking to myself.” 💡moment & an executive decision “If it’s flawed it’s gives character.”
Don’t you love gardening? Thanks for sharing and making my day. Looks great btw 👩🏾🌾👍🏾😍
Very nice. It came out sweet
I recently discovered your channel and I’m enjoying it very much. Even my husband has watched in with me some. Great yard. We love all the different areas and plants. Invest in a wheel barrel or a metal cart with airless tires. It is so worth it to save your back etc.
Hi Veronica! Thank you for your message. I agree it’s time for me to stop being cheap and buy a cart. My back will thank me later. I appreciate your support!
That poor BMW. If there's a will, there's a way and you did it! Shout out to Christopher for helping. I enjoyed watching you work on your new room. Your garden is so magical. You are awesome.
LOVE the user name! “ Carl Alt Del”. 🤣 Thank you so much CAD 🌺
Great job, it looks awesome. The bricks and gravel is a wonderful idea. Girl you’re inspiring me to do more to my small backyard. Thanks for sharing your ideas.
Looks beautiful!!
Thank you so much !
You did such a great job with your backyard. Love it.
Thank you so much!!
You have a BEAUTIFUL BACK YARD!! Imagine at night how cozy the space is!!
I really like what you did there with the bricks and gravel your garden is a very happy place!
Hi Pat. Thank you so much for supporting my garden journey 😊
"If it's flawed, that gives it character!" Yes! I'm using that line! I'm new to your channel. I'm enjoying your garden.
Thank you Kay! I appreciate you watching 😊
This looks FANTASTIC!!! ❤
I love your personality throughout this entire video. I also love the little accidents that happen where you can get creative and show more of what makes you you.
Beautiful garden Sis! Just LOVE to see channels like yours.
My husband got my PMW some cool wheels, they are a solid wheel. The PMW has now been in my garden 10 years or more. I love your channel, your yard is beautiful.
Beautiful yard, I love the rocks your brother carved for you. The landing turned out really 😊. I’m working on my flower bed and deciding what type of retaining stones to use. One of my daughters love love love rocks. 😊🌸
You and your daughter should paint some rocks for garden keepsakes. Eww I think I will do that with my grand daughter this year😊 Thanks for inspiring me!
@@PlantingLifeMatters 😊😊😊will do
Does your brother sell his rocks/work? I'd would purchase some. :)
Hi Carlean,He doesn’t but that’s a great idea that I’ll tell him about. Thank you 🙏
this video was posted right on time because I have a couple of areas in my garden where I am going to lay some gravel and make it a shaded perennial container garden area. This was SOOOOOOO helpful!!! thank you!!! It looks beautiful- the naps i would take in your garden would be epic!!!
Hi Charlene! That makes me so happy! I hope your project goes well! Thank you so much 🥰
Love it!!!
I'm really amazed. You did a wonderful job.
I got an air pump thing that runs on my Drill batteries and I LOVE it. I don’t think it was expensive but does my wheelbarrow tires, car tires, grandson’s floats and pool. It’s a great little tool❤️
Girl! You need to go to Walmart and get an "Ozark" pull cart. I think it's in the camping section. Don't get the expensive one..I paid $50 last year...the tires are plastic so you don't have to worry about flats. I have had several garden carts and they ALL go flat in no time. I loved it so much my sister bought one too and we love them!! Love your re-do's!!
😅😂😊Love your garden ♥ the wagon is something got me cracking up, use it till you can't ❤
So glad I found your channel this week. Your garden is inspiring! Love the vibe.
I like your channel, I came across it a few months ago. I like your "can do" additude. Do you remember where you bought your arbors and gazebo? Thanks!
Nice work and little by little we can get much accomplished 😊!
Just caught your video. Loved watching you creating your new garden room! Love your great sense of humour and natural delivery. Subscribed and look forward to seeing more of them. 😊❤
So glad I found you. I'm located about halfway between Dallas and Houston so your videos are perfect for me and my want to be garden😉. I have been wanting to redo my old brick patio for some time now but want to do it as inexpensively as possible. You are just the inspiration I need. Subscribed right away. And your project today looks great.
Hi Judy my fellow Texan and welcome to my garden journey.
Thank you so much for watching and supporting the channel! 🌷🌺🌼
Christopher is doing the lord’s work. Lololol😂😂😂
Hahahaha! That’s what I told him when he asked for some money! Just kidding 😂
Our Gorilla Cart wheels blew out quickly too. Beautiful garden! Thank you for sharing.
Super cute! We have a section in our backyard and I have been undecided as to what to do with it. First I thought of gravel, then bark or pine straw. We finally decided on a mix. But you did an awesome job with the sitting section of your yard. Very inspiring.
Just beautiful. I love it❤ 24:11
Beautiful work ❤. I do 99%of the outside yard work, and call in reinforcements on something really heavy. The “rooms” really add character to the yard, and it gave me ideas for our home. Keep up the good work🥰 . I am enjoying your channel.
Thanks so much!!!
Girl, it looks fabulous! Youve got great taste & your yard/garden looks beautiful. Don’t you just love pea gravel? I tackled alot of drainage issues as well as areas where the grass just does not grow. I used pavers & different sizes of gravel (from pond gravel on the borders to pea gravel in the center keeping the pavers in place. I’ve made several gardens with decorative block over the years to keep my flowers & plants safe from mowers (lol) & where we had problems growing grass & it sure did make a big difference. I used cardboard then top soil & bedding mix then topped that off with mulch to make up my garden beds. My husband isn’t into gardening or those extra things in the yard & that’s ok. I have enough imagination & strength for both of us. Lol You are definitely a girl after my own heart. (& please go get yourself a new wagon!) lol Hugs from GA (knocking on 70!)
Lol I love your character and your gardening.
That’s very kind of you Kelly! Thank you for watching😃
I love the natural look ❤❤
I saw that if you spray foam into the tires through a hole. You never have to replace the wheels on your wheelbarrow.
I just found your channel and I love the way you Garden! Yesterday I went to Home Depot and bought 20, 12 x 12 cement pavers loaded them in my car brought them home put them on one of those stand-up dollies little by little and both Wheels needed air and I laughed when I saw your cart that needed air in the tires and knew that I was meant to find your Channel! I am making an 8 by 10 ft patio with Mulch and pavers and I dug out the grass I'm going to put bricks as edging and I see that I lug around bags just like you..and I laughed when you we're looking for your gloves because I do that all the time and I also lost scissors I haven't found yet! I plan what I'm going to do but a lot of times things come out makeshift and spur of the moment but I'm loving it I'm 70 and sensational, enjoying it, and it keeps me moving and young. You're giving me inspiration and I look forward to you progress and adventures!!!
Blessings ❤😊
Oh what a wonderful message. I enjoyed reading your adventure and could see every step you took in my wild imagination 😊 how awesome that you’re making it happen at 70! Very impressive and I too am inspired ! Thank you for that!
@@PlantingLifeMatters awww... thank you. You made my night. I'm looking forward to going back and revisiting your posts. To me, age is just a number ...and my brain thinks I'm still 40! So I try to do what I can do. My beloved husband and I built our dream retirement home in a cul-de-sac with Woods in the back and 4 months after we closed on the house he passed from lung cancer but I finally moved into our dream home and I know my honey is here with me. My backyard is a clean slate. I hope to be an old lady in the garden years from now and I have dreams of what I want it to look like so little by little it is a work-in-progress. I have bird houses and wind chimes an arbor fountains and many statues I've collected over the years and when I find the perfect tree I will plant one in memory of my husband. My husband always said you have to count your blessings every day. And I do and I was blessed to have him in my life and this house was his last gift to me. I plan on making beautiful gardens because I love to sit out in the backyard and enjoy the peace and beauty.
Have a wonderful evening sending hugs and blessings
......Linda 🌸🌹🐦🌼🌺🌷🦋
How long have you been working on your backyard oasis? I want yours!!!❤
New subscriber! You won me over with knowing Jesus, bricks, pea gravel and a great attitude with your garden. We rent but I'm having fun putting in brick borders with mulch or pea gravel beds where I can position my many flower pots. Your backyard rooms are cozy. I also have the same fence panels and use a panel as my "gate." Good thinking! ❤🌳🪴I love all kinds of rocks too!
Well hallelujah Cinderella and welcome to my channel. Let’s take this garden journey together. Sounds like great minds think a like 😃
I love it. I use leftover pavers etc to make paths too. I like that things are not so match matchup.
It looks really good! I garden the same way, use what I have and improvise
Take the tires off that Raggedy wheel barrel and turn into a flower pot.😊
I love the way it turned out! You had me cracking up the entire time. I enjoyed watching the video!
I love what you did filling in a dirt area. You gave me some great ideas. Thanks for your advice.
HATS OFF TO YOU LADY. I saw so much of me in your ideas. There is nothing more gratifying to DIY projects. You sense of using what you have, is so similar to how I maneuver around in my yard. It makes me appreciate GODS BLESSINGS. You are so inspiring, and I learned a few things. I love natural beauty also. I have many bricks leftover from having my house built. They really come in handy. I never thought about digging a trench to lay them around as a border. I just sat them there. Thank you for posting this great video. MINI ME. GOD BLESS YOU. One more thing I love rocks too I have some kind of 20 30 pounds, I painted them and used as a border. They look good to me. I did everything myself too. I am 71 and still have some muscle.
This is such a wonderful message! Thank you so much “mini me” 😊Gods blessings to you too!
@@PlantingLifeMatters Thank you for your reply. I checked out your other vids and was even more inspired. Also, a cancer survivor with 4 sisters. Thank you so much. Keep soaring M ME. GOD BLESS.
I love all the areas that you have created in your garden❤
Omgness I love you 😂we are like twins😂
You can take that cart to any tire shop and they can remove wheel and fix the flats
You can get new tubes for your gorilla cart and they don’t cost a lot. I had the same problem and my husband put new tubes in and now my cart is in working order again. Beautiful yard.
Omg I just saw the tires up close and they have lost their tread so guess tubes won’t help. 😞
Hahahaha. Yep Cheryl it’s pretty busted. LOL. But I will keep tubes in mind for the next cart. Good idea.
Dig your footer, stamp down the dirt, lay your fabric landscaping barrier then put in your Base/ crushed cocaina Rock. Then pour your clean play sand this is so you can set your pavers stone level.
Love in your garden!!! Great content TY!!!
Love your sense of humor.
3 and a half tires... i am cracking up here! Beautiful yard!!!!
Do a concrete dry pour patio with pressed leaves from your garden. Your garden is beautiful.
Hi there..I Garden in Zone 4 - Central Canada. I just wanted to suggest that you plant some Mallow - in the area you wanted White taller flowers, or try some Sonata Cosmos. These 2 are Xeriscape plants and a wonderful addition to any garden.
Hi there MyrticFIREFLY👋. I looked up the Sonata Cosmos and love it. Thank you for the suggestion!! 😃 I will be looking for it for sure!
I like your yard girl.keep having fun!!!✌✌✌
Just now starting watching you!and am loving your style, you remind me of ME working and starting projects in my yard.keep the videos coming GIRL!!!!
I love your creative thinking in the garden. Your nephews an awesome helper and he’s going to get buff pulling that wagon.
Yon need the grass seeds that grow anywhere no matter what shaded area you plant in. Unless you get the rubber mulch(black) you will have to refresh later in summer. A nice rug will be nice.Nola is pretty. Be you, if you want to say hey y'all say it with no apologizes.
Your backyard is already looking beautiful.
Love it❤
Beautiful
I like what you are doing in your backyard
First time here 💗💗 I wish you were my neighbor lol I’m 72 and I can’t do anything anymore 😿 looks good 💗💗
Hahaaaaa…PMWs! 😂 I friggin luv it!
That was an amazing job! Love how you filled in that painted rock in the landing. It looks like a planned design. Oh and yeah, country voice or not… better know Jesus 😊
Amen! Thank you Eunice 😁
I’m so glad I found this video, I’ve been playing with idea to make the majority of my backyard gravel with spaces for planting and you have given me such inspiration
Hi Rachel, that is awesome to hear! Good luck with your gravel project. Please be sure to subscribe for more :-) Welcome to my garden!
I love the pea gravel.

Thank you so much Sharon 😊
You have a great sense of humor
You have given me so many ideas, I’m going to have to send you a bill..😂
It looks great and encourages me to do so much more in my yard.
Your garden is lovely, I am impressed with your style!
Thank you Joni 🙏 🌸
😂😂 your wheel barrel look like mine, rolling ‘til the wheels fall off… literally!!!😂😂😂😂 I love ❤the yard and everything you’ve done and is doing to it. Remember not to be your guard dog 😅on me when you come out and see me relaxing drinking wine 🍷 😂😂😂. Love you sis ❤❤❤
😁your cart's tires look just like mine!😆 Poor thing still working hard..not going to let a couple of flat tires stop him from working!..😅
So I am not alone then! 😂 hahaha
PMW LOL 😂 BMW... that just took me 😂😂😂
😂lol.
You are too funny. The 3 wheel barrel 😂. I need to get one myself because all that pulling in the poor man wheel barrel it's not working. I am not a spring chicken 🐔 anymore. WE need to work smarter not harder ❤😂. The garden looks great 👌 My garden is coming together also just one day at a time.
KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK.
GOD BLESS❤
Hey Deloris…you are sooo right. Work smarter not harder. Thank you for reminding me of that. I’m to old to be this cheap! I’m getting a new cart!
@@PlantingLifeMatters That's it. My dad is no longer with me/us but those are his words he would tell all six of his children. We have never forgotten. I am really enjoying your channel and you continue to bring smiles on people faces the way you do. Be safe and God Bless you always. P.S. You are not alone; I'm cheap as well 🙂for my age. But, Life is too short and Life Matters 🙂Take care until next time.
Absolutely awesome!
Very nice
Beautifully done.
Great exercise
Yes in deed! Thank you for watching 😃
Amazing
I just did this earlier this year after mulling and mulling and mulling over whether or not to use landscaping fabric vs tarp vs thick mil plastic sheeting - I ended up testing a couple different tarps and also thick mil sheeting (was concerned about drainage) after which I recommended tarp - specifically Harbor Freight extreme weather grey and black tarp (as first choice) and Home Depot’s Everbilt brown heavy tarp as alternative.
Additionally … not sure what city/state/area you are in but if you can have a load of pea gravel delivered vs buying it by the bags at home improvement stores, I GUARANTEE it will save you $$$$ hand over foot !
I have done landscaping projects in Los Angeles, only sourcing rock materials from the improvement stores, however, in my most recent project earlier this year (outside of CA), I had a load of clean pea gravel dumped at $250 per load (approximately 11 tons). I did not even use a quarter of it on this project before realizing the substantial savings (of basically buying the gravel in bulk) vs how much more it would have cost me by the bags + gas + time.
You are already wheelbarrowing 🤗
And actually (because I was consciously working out during my gravel transfer), I did not use a barrow to transport from the pile to the designated area (roughly the same distance as yours-front to back yards), I used a dollar store mop bucket and small hand shovel I had on hand .. and threw on my ankle weights for added resistance!
enjoy the journey, your backyard looks fantastic! ✨
You did great
😊 Thank you 🙏
It's great
I have the same cart & the wheels just need air pumped into them once or twice a year. If you don't have a compressed air machine you can take it to the gas station & use the air pump there 😊
Love it!😊
Thank you! 😊
i really love your garden and your videos.. stay beautiful happy and healthy. ❤️🌹🌿🪴🌴
Looks great. Good job
