I am SO glad you showed the struggles! Roots, changed plans, and more roots! You got SO much done, and I can’t imagine the real time that took, vs. edited video time! The brick edging, removing the big blocks, and adding gravel was a big job! But did you stop there? Heck no. Digging up and replanting the evergreen was a big job! But did you stop there? Heck no. And then planting that maple was a big job! And then there was all the tubing leaks. And then you grabbbed mulch! Girl! You and Aaron deserve a long break and a glass of wine. Looks wonderful. I love how you keep everything tidy. It’s my new motto. “That doesn’t look tidy. We need to fix it”. 😊. Trust me, this is new territory, It will be good for me.

Can Aaron come over and teach my husband how to have that reaction when I show him something I did in the yard? That was such a supportive, enthusiastic reaction Aaron had! My husband is almost there, but good for Aaron for supporting you in all you do!

Placing the maple in the spot where the spruce was, is definitely the better position! AND centering the fountain with the window will look great!! Thanks for showing the struggle with roots, etc... many videos would skip over that. It's refreshing to see REAL gardening, struggles and all😊🌱🌲

Definitely like the maple in that spot. I'm sure the hens will, too.
Have you thought of a fast growing vine to shade the West side of coop until the tree is large enough cast more shade?

I usually only tear out the articles/pictures I like, but Aaron takes the most beautiful pictures of Laura’s amazing projects that it would only be right to keep the whole magazine together and collect them. ❤️

We had a maple tree taken out 2 yrs. ago. Our tree services told us not to plant another tree for 3 yrs. the roots from the old on were poison and needed to die. I trust him. So we will plant on next year. I will check in tomorrow morning. Joyce

This video lifted my garden spirit today! I am getting so much more done in my yard this spring than I have the last 3 springs in this home because of the quarantine. My yard is nothing compared to yours as it was a blank slate when we moved in and gardening is my hobby but you have inspired and motivated me so much to create beautiful areas around my home. It may take time, but it is getting there and every time I have the energy and motivation to get out and do a little more you can be sure you've had a part in that. Thank you for all you do!

It looks so so good Laura. Watching your videos is so inspiring. I've changed my whole garden. I have removed bushes and trees and made myself a large perennial bed. I got hold of supertunia vista bublegum, siverberry, violet vien and 2 types of superbells. I bought 12 pieces of heuchera wildberry and wild rose and 4 super nice grasses called fireworks. You've finally made me quit smoking so I can spend the money in my garden instead. so thank you Laura for all your inspiration and your hard work, it gives me such a drive even though I live on the other side of the globe Thank you :-)

All told, I do think it's a blessing in disguise that the maple had to be moved. I know it hurts to have to move a tree like that, but I don't think you'll regret it and the chickens will appreciate having more shade in their run, sooner. You'll find something else gorgeous to plant there for winter interest, you always do. And, I'll cringe as you dig their holes in that unforgiving mass of roots, but all's fair in love and gardening as long as it's pretty in the end. And, it will be. Awesome job on the bricks, by the way. Aaron was appropriately impressed, and he got to use his auger. Editing was top flight, as always. ~ Lisa

What has helped us when planting tree's is my husband measures the depth of the pot and then measures the hole depth. Sometimes we need to dig few inches more or sometimes we need to add dirt back because it's too deep. Work's perfect every time. No more guessing or having to pull the heavy tree out to dig more or more dirt. Happy gardening. We too live on over 5 acres and this year we planned so many fruit tree's. This technique helped.

I just finished raking needles and leaves from my beds to discover the bleeding heart, sedum, garden phlox, peonies, clematis among other things that are busting out of the earth in our zone 4 weather. Makes me so happy! Oh, and I think the both trees look great in their new homes. Big tree roots are the worst :(

Hi Laura and Aaron! As Aaron said, the bricks look really good. No matter what you do, it always looks nice, and better than before. It's too bad the maple wouldn't work where you wanted it, but like you said, I think it's better where you ended up planting it. The spot you put the spruce in is perfect! The fountain will look really nice centered in front of the window. When you were digging the hole for the maple it sounded like the girls were cheering you on. LOL! I'm sure you will find some pretty plants/shrubs to add interest in that area. I can't wait to see what you find. It's always nice seeing the two of you working together. It was so much fun seeing Aaron get so excited about using the auger. That was a good buy, and so was the Gator! Thank you so much for sharing this!

Hi Laura, I'm a faithful viewer, and I've learned so much from you. I'm addressing your zucchini squash bug problem last year. I watch Wisconsin Garden video blog as well and they try to do organic gardening especially in their veggie beds, and they have had success with controlling squash bugs. What they do is stick dill stems in and amongst their squash plants because squash bugs hate the smell of dill. You could give this a try and see if it works. It would make a good video with a later update to see if it works.🤗

Gardening In Canada, Zone five, so is Michigan. I live close to Lake St Clair and the area I live in is zone 5/6 because of the water way. If you live in the area of Ontario, close to the water and In between Lake Erie and Lake Huron, I'm sure it would be the same for you. The rest of Michigan is a firm zone 5.

I could just get lost walking around your property and taking in all the beauty you and your husband have planted.

You are so fortunate to have such wonderful soil. I so enjoy just watching you dig down and not hit subsoil. I'm in Tennessee and have hard, red clay just a few inches below the surface and just cannot ever go out and dig a hole to plant anything. To plant you must first dig and then amend the soil tremendously just to give plants a fighting chance. You are so lucky!

That last hole was a workout. I have been moving a lot of things myself and digging lots of holes, sleeping great is the reward!
