  • What's the best way to reload a concealed carry revolver? The obvious answer is "get another revolver out" but for most people who don't carry two guns, the answer is going to be one of these methods. In this video, Caleb takes three common methods of carrying a reload and puts them to the test. The Tuff Products Quick Strip in a ‪@NeoMagUSA‬ RASC, the Zeta 6 K pack, and the new Dark Star Gear immediate action clip. Which one is the best?

    You are quick, but all your reloads are head down, with a hat on, eyes off the target.
    Also, you are stagnant. Do the same reloads while moving.
    My opinion is train to not look at your hands/pistol whatsoever, never taking eyes off the target and move around. Minimum you should take a knee.
    Took me a solid year of daily practice to be able to be moving while shooting, moving while reloading and never looking at my hands to accomplish this.
    Did this in my house with dummy rounds. One way to have fun and make it interesting is do it in the dark, no lights on while walking, running, jumping, diving, crawling, you name it. You may feel like a fool, but it’s worth it. I even did it while working out. Did push ups, squats, lunges and sit up while reloading. Gets the heart rate up and causes muscle fatigue. If you can do this when your arms and legs feel like jello, heart pounding out your chest and can’t breathe after a few hundred push-ups and squats you golden.
    Have fun! Thanks for the great vid!

    Like you mention in the description, my preferred way to carry spare ammo is in a second revolver, especially since it affords me what Darryl Bolke calls a "covered low ready."
    That said, I still practice with speedloaders and speedstrips at the range, because I need to reload the thing to keep practicing, so I might as well practice the reload itself too.

    I keep my reloads in a S&W 337 Airlite Ti. NY reload. It weighs 11 Oz. and my backup is accessible by both hands. My primary is a Taurus 856. My backup would be a 2nd 856 but because the Airlite is so much lighter than the Ultralite, the Airlite wins. I carry a speed strip as well.
    Another product to try is Zeta 6's K Clip. It loads as a speed loader but it's more front pocket friendly. Like if a speed loader and a moon clip had a baby.

    One of my takeaways from the Contextual Revolver class with you having me do some 2 round reloads from the IACs was what you just described: 2 rounds in an IAC and a full Tuff/Speed strip. Though I have been carrying that in a Simply Rugged vertical strip pouch. I think I'll go NeoMag for non-belt carry with a J-frame though.

    I have found that you can put two of the zeta strips together (bullets in) and theres nearly zero extra bulk added to a pocket, but this ensures you can grab them more efficiently and reliably, and adds another 6 rounds. Worst case they rotate 90 but you still are able to at least grab them from the back of the strip like you would with the RASC/strip.
    also the rubber of the zeta bends enough that you can line up two of the rounds and it'll fit in the IAC. Like I mentioned on instagram, this works perfectly when you appendix carry bc the gun creates an open space for the remaining 4 rounds to sit inside your pants (like a mag for a semi auto).
    I've tested the zeta/iac set up enough with motorcycle rides and general errands that I'm confident that it won't fall out under normal circumstances.

    HKS speed loaders are smaller than the competition loaders like Safariland. Are they perhaps a more practical option for EDC for full reload?
    P.S. Have you tried the Zeta full speed loaders?

    • @MrRevolver
      @MrRevolver  Рік тому +3

      I have not tried the Zeta full loaders, but I am curious about them. For a "speed loader in the pocket" I prefer Safariland Comp II instead of the HK loader. Takes up the same amount of space but I find the Comp II to be superior

    • @mchasal
      @mchasal Рік тому

      @@MrRevolver Yeah, those Zeta full loaders look interesting. Certainly not as flat as any of the strips, but I wonder if one could straddle a belt to be half-IWB. I've seen some moon clip carriers like that, but they seem pretty bulky, and, of course, require the cylinder to accept the clips. They should approach the speed of the mechanical speed loader.

      @@MrRevolver Hey I think they made a mistake on the Taurus website for the Gx4 carry. It says the barrel is 3.06 in length but it is suppose to be 3.7 inch in length. Might want to tell them to fix that because guys were talking in a gun group in comments about it saying only 3.06 and they wanted a longer barrel.

    If it's the position that makes such a difference, there's got to be a way to carry a strip up front like the immediate action clip to get you both speed and capacity.
    Maybe clipping the RASC vertically inside the waistband? Or horizontally between the belt and pants in some way?
    There are plenty of pouches out there to hold strips or speedloaders, Galco has their Walkabout holster with a speedloader pouch attached, Tier1Pro has a kydex holster for a J-frame with like a sidecar for a speedstrip, and other kydex pouches like the JOX or Speedbeez could easily be positioned to do the trick.
    Is the rubber strip flexible enough that you could stick the rounds into the Immediate Action Clips while still in the strip, just as a way to carry it? Maybe just the two on each end so it can flex?
    Also there's that Wrapid Loader thing from KazTac, if that works and came in an IWB kydex pouch it could be a pretty quick option

    As much as I deeply love revolvers I can't help but feel like lately we're so reliant on niche gadgets made by vanishingly few small companies. Such is the 21st century, I suppose. Anyway I do like the IAC, much like feeding a shotgun. I feel like the K-pak could be better if it had the same speed strip tab for the RASC to clamp to.
