Guitar players who want to play fast should use this song as a guide. Jake shreds here, but with FEEL. It’s a burst of raw emotion rather than a bunch of notes played fast to “impress.” Unlike a lot of 80’s guys, Jake learned the lessons of the blues and built upon the foundation of Page and Hendrix. Badlands, to me, is the most underrated rock band of all time. Jake’s playing never disappoints. This album was a wake up call to me as a guitarist, and my band is my humble attempt to pick up the baton where these guys left off. Order of the Serpent - Electric Tombstone Blues, check it out!
+Terra Minton whys that? your friend is a veteran of the 60's - the first rock generation. Hendrix/cream/iron butterfly/blue cheer etc. Easy to forget that eh?
The most authentic Jimmy Page guitar solo by another guitarist than JP of all time. Jake just nails it. So Zepp 1/2 and it's just such a clinic. If you love Jimmy Page and Zepp you have to appreciate Jakes solo here. No other guitarist has ever captured Jimmy while still doing it his way than Jake here. What an amazing album the first badlands is. Ray is like Coverdale with Plants range. It's unreal.
This also is why I think Jake was a better overall guitarist than Randy Rhoads. As great as RR was -this feel is just stunning. The fact Jake could do what he did on the Ozzy records and then pulled this off separates him IMO.

a 68yr old friend of mine turned me on to Badlands & I should be turning him on to it. I'm 40

The chorus sounds reminiscent of Love Rears Up by Living Colour.
