I have this car and the engine is actually fun to drive... no need for the old fatigue V6 in the previous model. I only wish the volume and temperature sliders were backlit at night... :O
Sorry but the VR6 would last you longer hauling an SUV this size. Have fun while warranty lasts, but all car companies are switching to smaller engines putting small turbos to compensate the power, but in long terms these small engines can’t hold up. That’s why you see lots of older trucks that are V8’s and are driven up going to +300K miles. The bigger the cylinder the longer it can last, but of course it’s all about maintenance and care. But as long as you are happy that’s all that matters. I wish there is an option for a bigger engine because this new Atlas really looks good inside!
@@housesaint1685it that was true, why are Japanese cars and Porsche and BMW Raptor is considered the most reliable engine. Stop with your nonsense, your not an engineer
I personally found the lack of physical button not distracting. It has a physical button that directs you right to climate control on the touch screen. On that screen, it is pretty quick and easy to control climate.
Have the suv. And I’ll say the one annoying thing about the suv is the tech. Backup camera flickers. CarPlay crashes none stop. Charging port at times doesn’t charge phone. Plus good luck changing the temperature at night since it’s not backlit lol.

2024 Volkswagen Atlas Sports is facing a major mechanical issue with potential engine failure due to damaged connecting rod bearings, which is currently under a recall by Volkswagen; other reported problems include. Some drivers have reported issues with loud grinding, squeaking noises, and inconsistent braking performance. Occasional complaints about problems with the infotainment system, instrument panel malfunctions, and sudden power loss. They just replace the backlogged display while they are working on finding out what is really happening. Some reports of premature airbag deployments or issues with the passenger occupant detection system. Potential issues with fractured rear coil springs. Some users have reported issues with the forward collision avoidance system. Other than that the color blue is pretty.
they recommend premium gas...low octane is not really not good for this engine...pile in as much "tech" as possible...I can't wait to get mine next month.
Nice review and do you always colur matach your coat to the car? :) Any chance your friends at Dalmar Motors will let you tow something in the 5,000 lb range with it? I'd like to see how the new engine compares to the V6 in this area.
Thank you! And great idea! I'm sure if they have a demo they wouldn't care. I'll see what we can do for that. I'm curious myself. Did drive great and I didn't really miss it too much but towing might be a different animal lol.
I'm not surprised to see they ditched the V6, even Toyota has gone to 4 cylinder turbos in their larger vehicles like the Highlander. I do wish they would have reconsidered their decisions for the infotainment though; I've never used the new VW system but I find the lack of physical buttons frustrating. Honda tried that when they first launched HondaLink in 2014, were crucified for it and have since corrected course and brought out one of the best systems on the market. VW has received similar criticism since the MK8 Golf launched but they seem to be committed to pushing the touch capacitive system.
At least they have gone away from touch capacitive controls on the steering wheel. I understand that they are also beginning to backlight the slider controls. For me (and I own a 2024 Cross Sport) that takes care of the major flaws to the recent VW control issues.

People are under the false opinion that SUV's are the best vehicle they can own. They typically are not! They are heavier, have significantly worse fuel economy, more prone to flip-overs in an accident due to the higher centre of gravity, and more expensive to maintain, as their bigger tires, brakes, and suspension components can wear out faster, and cost more to repair. Insurance typically costs more, and the AWD is rarely needed for the majority of urban commuters, and just adds significant cost and weight. Unless you need a larger vehicle for towing a trailer, they are over-kill for the typical buyer. Manufactures jumped on the bandwagon, and churned out these up-sized hulks, with low-tech suspensions and powerplants, and huge mark-ups. There vehicles make huge profits for their manufacturers, and the huge mark-ups are driven by consumer demand, and NOT by added content, when compared to a typical sedan. Feels low?? It's as high as you are, so I have no clue why it would 'feel low'... I currently own my second VW Jetta, so I'm familiar with VW's typical good quality. I'm also experienced with driving large full-sized vans for several decades, so I know the pros and cons of driving a larger vehicle, and will ALWAYS choose the better-handling smaller vehicle when given a choice. How exactly did 'Tech ruin the Atlas', or was that just click-bait...??? Just lame...
I do agree and personally bought a new Golf instead of a similarly priced and equipped Atlas. I would rather pack light and have a more fun driving experience. That said everybody and their neighbour seem to be buying SUV's, and for those folks like myself that would be going in kicking and screaming lol, I want to tell how it drives. I have been fortunate to test a lot of these contraptions now (including off camera) and the Atlas does drive smaller and seems easier than most it's plump size. As far as the title goes, one of the most catastrophic corporate blunders in recent history was VW's launch of the current infotainment found in the Atlas. So I was posing the question of whether or not this failed system ruined a beloved vehicle known for its ease of use. I personally don't think it did. My Golf has it and I totally understand the frustration with it, but it isn't all that bad. Thanks for commenting.
VW in their infinite wisdom decided to remove physical knobs which is laughable. The user interface is horrendous. A great way to distract the driver from keeping their eyes on the road. And doing away with the VR6 for a wheezing 4 cylinder engine that is constantly in boost. What a smart move from VW. LOL
It’s just that when people make ignorant comments that don’t accurately describe characteristics of the vehicle in question, I assume that they haven’t actually had firsthand experience with the vehicle. There is nothing “wheezing” about the 4 cylinder engine. It’s virtually the same engine found in the Audi Q5 and the base Audi Q7, only with a few more horsepower. The VW group corporate 4 cylinder actually is a pretty decent engine.
I was pleasantly surprised at the I4. I have a mk7 GTI but it looks like it could fit in the back of the Atlas lol so I was curious. I like the V6 especially in vehicles like this but I get it. It is a world of regulations and budgets.
I own one, the power is surprising. Doesn’t feel like a 4 cylinder at all so I don’t know what people are talking about. If you live in the 90’s I guess this would be too much technology for you. Super easy to adapt, I don’t understand the issue with the technology.
I have a 2021 Atlas. We love it, but for one thing the technology is sh!t. The space is amazing. Third row amazing space. My brother-in-law has a suburban. That third row is garbage compared to the VW. The handling is amazing. The VR6 motor is nice, but the transmission has a distinct lag. But for the darn info system, it is what vexes me. I hate it so much. I hate the digital display. I hate the non tactile digital controls. I hate that I can't shut off the traction control. I hate that darn engine shut off at lights(very dangerous when attempting to merge in stop and go traffic). Why can't I buy a vehicle without all these so-called options.
