- The Acolyte Episode 5 Review | Star Wars is DOOMED
#starwars #theacolyte
The 5th episode of the new Star Wars series streaming on Disney+, titled The Acolyte, just debuted tonight. Fan reaction is all over the place, as many viewers who love the Star Wars prequel trilogy felt strong callbacks to the lightsaber fights in this episode. But, many fans are still saying that this Star Wars series, directed by Leslye Headland, is Star Wars in Name Only. In our review, Nick and Coach break down all of the storyline issues and plot holes that are non-sensical and just plain bad writing.
My favorite part about The Acolyte is not watching it 😆
Not watching and just enjoying the chaos on the internet is the meta
You can’t judge a good show if you’ve never seen it before. So keep your opinions to yourself. -shills
@@jay0192 -Kyle Katarn probably
It is so good to be part of the 'problem' isn't it.
"We made optional entertainment they wouldn't like and they aren't watching it like back when it was enjoyable!"
Exactly, I’d rather watch the reviews their far more entertaining😂
How is it possible for Sol not to notice a massive f*&^ing tattoo/brand on Mae's head???
Yup
I imagine in a future scene mae will prob be moved my somthing and her hair will show the mark and sol will see it.
I completely forgot about that.
@@John_Locke_108 so did the writers.
How does he not sense that she’s Mae and not Osha WITH THE FORCE?!😅
I actually look forward to the inevitable fan-edit that cuts a lot of chaff from the wheat, making something actually watchable and fixes the plot holes and broken lore... such as setting it 1000 years ago, instead of 100, and removing the Ki-Adi inconsistency, and slimming down the furst four episodes into one... but I don't think anyone cares enough. It's too much of a mess.
Good point. I reckon most of these Disney series could be edited down to single 2hour movies which would be reasonably average and watchable.
Why would you even want that? What would be left? Turning something that's bad and offensive into something that's not good and offensive, but shorter? What's in this show that needs to de saved?
I don't believe even a Patterson cut could save this one.
I thought the reason they decided to do 100 was because it was suppose to tie in. I guess it might have been. Easily should have done a thousand. Could have changed the tech the background. Just so much could have been done in your own way.
sounds like a lot of work for not much pay off
When you have writers and directors with no morals, how are they going to write and direct charaters with morals?
I get you, but it's totally possible. Good writers don't write every character as themselves. They suspend their own personal principles and empathize with their characters to write from their point of view. Sadly, the only good writer at Disney is Tony Gilroy.

But Cluster-Bs can only ever write narrative-hijacking/ending Sues.
I've been on the lookout for something like this! Ready to believe in myself.. -- "Believe in your abilities; they shape your destiny.."
back in my day people thought about how to make the BEST product and make the MOST money. god how times changed..
Hollyweird has been inserting propaganda from the beginning, it's just over the top at this point
Disney bought the Star Wars IP to "bring in the boys and their fathers" to balance out the female centric Disney that made products mostly catering to females
Then they gave it to a feminist KK and Harvey Weinstein's assistant who scheduled all the "meetings" between Harvey and young starlets
And now 90+% of all entertainment industries seem to be pulling a _The Producers_ gambit.
Now, in this day, people just spend their money on s*** And they don't care, so now nobody cares about the product. They make because they know all the dumb a******* will spend their money still. It's juts math, we have saturated the market with poor consumers, so now we get poor products.
The knife who's name escaped you: VICTORINOX Swiss Army Knife.
Why not Crocodile Dundee's knife...
Now THAT's a knife...
@@ghostrecon6788 LOL, yeah it is. But not as versatile as the legendary legend made by Victorinox. Dundee's knife doesn't come with a cork opener!
@18:32 - I was wondering the same thing. This primary mission for going to this planet was to check on Kelnacca. Although we the audience knew he was dead, none of the Jedi actually laid eyes on him. Not even Jeki. Although she did waste a lot of time listing off the persons who Mae had murdered, I do not recall her witnesssing Kilnaka. She was to busy trying to arrest Mae.
Which reminds me, When did the reading of Miranda Rights become a thing? Is that Lore? Or is that some writer's idea of trying to make a social commentary about police brutality? I didn't get it, and my stomach was knotted up the entire episode at all the weird decisions that were made. Such as when Sol told Mae to "Let's go" and leaves his entire company of fallen Jedi behind. He doesn't bury them, he doesn't put them in ctyo-stasis so they can be returned home. Nothing! He just walks away like it was another episode of Squid Games.
Jeremy jahns had a great name for the sith Darth nameless.
The mystery: How can one cut their hair with a bloody lightsaber and it's bloody perfect? exactly...EXACTLY PERFECT!!! argh!!!
...without is smelling like burned hair.
I thought mae was going to off herself
When the writers have an adolescent mindset, and only feel rather than think.

were they out of money so they went to get a gimp mask for the evil character the only thing missing was the red ball and a dominatrix in the shadows waiting for him to return to the rack? they still have to reach the bottom of the barrel
Only difference is Luke's rage on the second Death Star is like a crescendo of the story, as he teeters on the edge of the Dark Side. What stopped him was Palpitatine's goading and seeing his father's severed mechanical hand which was very much like his own. So he renounces the rising darkness in him, the same darkness that is in the Emperor and Vader.
In the acolyte, from what you guys are saying, it serves no such grand purpose
Talking about Obi-Wan making the angry face against Maul. I’m pretty sure there have been explanations that he did pull from some of the dark side in the fight. But that at least makes some sense because he was feeling pain after Qui-Gon was stabbed.
What’s even more frustrating is that there is genuinely an interesting story somewhere here. Kill Bill Star Wars could have been really cool
Imagine two Southerners forgetting what a Swiss Army knife is called 😂
Why does the armor not affect Qimir’s LS though?
Obi-Wan and Luke both had significant reasons set up for their "angry faces" and Luke ended up overcoming his rage and controlling himself. This show just has the Jedi all angry all the time.
They shouldn’t have shown Mae switching places like that. Do it off screen and have a slight tell that it’s not Osha: an evil smile, look in her eyes, SOMETHING!! My god, as a writer and a Star Wars fan, this whole show pisses me off.
Everything is so heavy-handed. I’m surprised they didn’t show her literally switching clothes while looking around for witnesses.😅

Genuinely thought this was the best of the 5, but again this was a low bar.
Hi, an actual Star Wars here just like many others in this wonderful community, to all Disney Star Wars fans out there:
If Star Wars taught me something as a kid back in the say, Is that I must be at peace with all beings around me, to find balance even when the dark side of the force Is all around us. I don't hate people with different points of view or their appearance, to the contrary, I wish them the Best in life and hope they fulfill their own destiny.
The Only that I can say about this whole thing about this show, Is that I HATE IT, I hate that It destroys the concept of the force, It makes fun of the Lore, the Jedi code that I and many other applied to our daily lives, for us...SW Is our own way of living, for some It Is a job and a hobbie that feeds families and seeing It being destroyed like this, really break my heart, this Is a moment where instead of being excited about a new episode every week, we forget or dont wanna watch It because of how painful It Is to do so.
I don't know how people work at Disney where instead of following the Lore, respecting the audience Is such a hard and bad thing to do, I mean with this franchise you could be earning a GIGANTIC amount of money, future generations would benefit from this at Disney but no, instead of that, you try to educate us about something we already know, we Only want Star Wars to be our way of scapism again, we want to feel excited about space battles, lightsaber duels, to interact with aliens and see different planets. That's just simple...
MAY THE FORCE BE WITH YOU...ALWAYS. 🐲🙏💕
Gray Jedi?
She broke his "Mask" Helmet with her elbow wtf. Its strong enough to block lightsabers but not an ELBOW.
Just because she cuts her hair doesn't change the fact that she has a force tat on her forehead...

Nice one.
She will cover it up with the mickey ears she wears in the next episode
one thought I just had and don't remember seeing anywhere else; how the heck can the Sith see to fight with those tiny little eye slots?!
I give one point for Dr. Teeth turning Jecki into a dice face.
Saying those lightsaber fights gave you "prequel vibes" is an insult to the prequels.
"She's already dead, bro." dammit Coach. XD Shame, though.
OHSA will not even acknowledge her responsibility in Jord's death, you watch.
Totally agree. She won't even care!
The little utility knife you were talking about is called a Swiss Army knife :)
Thanks for the review 🙌🏾❤️
“This is the weapon of a Jedi Knight. Not as clumsy or random as a blaster; an elegant weapon for a more civilized age” Obi Wan Kenobi.
Sorry Obi Wan it is really an over powered Swiss Army knife. It can be used as a flashlight, open doors, and now cut hair.
In Star Wars, Cortosis (est. 1998) shorts out Lightsaber’s.
The live is blocked by Disney. 🤔
They did the parent trap thing but Mae has the mark on her forehead
Sol is just gonna leave all the dead Jedi there and not even collect their sabers? Seemed odd to me he wouldn’t at least collect their sabers or check on the wookie.
Lot of action but lots of plot holes as well. Always a great job fellas. Appreciate all the vids.
You missed the lack of acknowledgement of the first 2, with no funeral and hiding it from the rest of the Jedi
@@groovygrover190 yeah I get that. They were all local so figured that just took place in the background. Plus their sabers were taken by Mae. Just seems odd he rushed off world. He literally kicked Smi-lo Rens butt and then got stunned. Like he isn’t afraid to fight.
@8bitbeardco This is what clown world/ upside down world has accomplished. Ignore traditional norms and focus on nutbag feelings
But when Luke did get angry in the fight, he got awfully close to the dark side, so he stopped. Nothing like this happened here.
Excellent analysis and review 🖖🏽
Is May suppose to be stand in for former personal assistant to Harvey Weinstein. No longer believing in the cause. Then taking advantage of a star wars fan base instead of individual people working as an assistant. She definitely has a much further reach being in the master position now. Even as shotty as the fight scenes were. Had they stuck to just the fighting, and did not talk at all this episode would have had much higher rating. Everything else brought down the occasional fight scenes. The best line though was when Soul gets mad for him killing his Padawan. Sith Bro is like you brought her here. Haha it's so true you allowed her to one on one this guy. You are her master it was Souls responsible to keep her alive. If she was not ready he shouldn't have brought her or he could have had her bring osha back to the ship.
10:10 Swish Army Knife was the type of pocket knife you were thinking of. Or the have the Gerber ones with pliers and stuff as well. But original compact utility knife with like 8-96 different uses and tools depending on the gadget. Swiss army knife.
It's called a Swiss Army knife
I thought to myself, "No it Can't be! It's to obvious, a red herring, Smile-O-Ren has to be Torbin!" Now that it's reveled to be "the potion master"...it's like... what the fuxk. (The writing is so bad on this show.) Torbin would have made more sense, and a bigger surprise. Torbin faking his own death, mind altered by the witches', possessed by the power of many (explaining how powerful he is.) (Which would link the story beginning to end.)
NOW, they are going to poorly explain (if at all) how a SITH is around now. How did he know about the sisters? Where did S-O-R come from? Why is Mae constantly changing her mind? Why did she leave her sister on the planet? Why did she go with Sol? She cut her hair, but is going to have to mask her dark energy and has a GIANT WHITE TATTOO on her forehead, how is she going to do that? Why didn't she give herself up?, (being afraid of S-O-R, and was almost assassinated by him.) Why introduce the "witches power/religion" and not use it?
The show was pitched to us as a murder mystery/dark side story. But Everything is so poorly written, poorly edited and obvious. The show has only succeeded in tricking their own MORE talented fans & detractors and their ideas (people that can craft better head canon then these writers) by doing thee most obvious, dumbshxt stuff possible.
How do they still hold to the idea that the Sith have returned a 100 years before they are suppose to stupid.
Male the Force be with you. Always.
I definitely agree, the lightsaber dueling was alright and Jecki was whooping it for a second but the writing just makes no sense, so many things contradict what was just said or just happened minutes before. Qimir not being a red herring and actually the “Sith” is kind of the least bit exciting as well.
4 out of 10 is generous. Good moments of combat dont make up for still many bad moments of combat, disappearances of certain charqcters during crucial moments dont make sense except for "plot reasons". Finding a stupid way for osha to be the hero with the light and the bugs, the back and forth with Mae for no good reason and no consistent character writing... i still see a bad show here. Now, i dont get on twitter but the fb crowd is eating it up like its the best thing ever and its quite frustrating, actually. The ppl that like it, love it and attack any and all criticism. The last thing i want is for the show to climb in ratings, but its probably gonna happen.
Sol is the real Sithlord!
lightsaber Swiss Army knife, lightsaber grooming kit,
Lightsaber the flamethrower!
Even Screenrant can't defend thus anymore because of this episode!😂😂😂
@Echo Base Network The more I watch this show, the more confused I get as it doesn't make any sense. That said, the only thing I liked about this episode was watching the sith Qimir fight with his saber and the very good acting by the actor. He looked more menacing without his helmet. The show should have been about Qimir, who came across as interesting. Sadly this show wasn't in the right hands as the writers have no clue about Star Wars lore. Apart from that I kept face palming my head so many times that my forehead is so sore. I didn't care about the carnage of the Jedi in this show ( unlike how I felt when I watched order 66) and the lightsaber duels were most definitely not the quality of the prequels. I have so many questions:
a). Why wasn't Sol helping the other Jedi when fighting with Sith Qimir? b). How could Yord run after his leg was slashed by the saber ( Mando accidentally hurt himself with his darksaber and could only limp) c). Why did Sol suddenly refer to Osha as a civilian? d) Why did Yord call Jeckie a Jedi but she isn't a Jedi e) Jecki must be a superhero padawan because she could take on Mae and the sith Qimir for a while, unlike Master Indara and the other Jedi knights , who are meant to be in their prime, died quite quickly and elbow off Sith Qimir's helmet with ease f). The fight between Mae and Jeckie was too long, it was ridiculous to hear Jeckie sound like the NYPD say you are under arrest in the middle of fighting Mae g). Absurd scenes- Mae cutting her hair with her saber, parent trap like trope of twin swapping and Mae's flip flopping from bad to good to bad , Qimir being taken away by the moths, why didn't Qimir force push the moths away and why didn't the moths sense the fighting lightsabers?) h). Why didn't the Jedi, especially Sol and Mae sense the darkness of Qimir in the first place, is Qimirs mask the cone of silence where no one can read thoughts? h). Why couldn't Sol sense after the swap that Osha is Mae and wouldn't he have seen her tattoo? i) Does Sith Qimir 's saber have a GPS? j). Jeckie and Sol acted very unjedi like, aggressive and with much anger/hate when fighting with Sith Qimir k) Why didn't Sol kill Qimir upon learning he is a Sith after killing his team , yet Yoda sent Obi Wan to kill Anakin. l). Do Sith now force heal? m) Why did Sol leave the bodies of the Jedi behind? n) Wouldn't Yoda and the Jedi council sense all of this, a disturbance in the force?. I rest my case about the stupidity of this show.
White hat guy really has to work on his oratory skills.
Oh I suck and have no oratory skills AT ALL.

These writers are abysmal

The lightsaber trick is from the game. And you can do it on battlefront 😆
Hey echo base network, dont you understand Mae cut her hair with the force ?
My biggest fear is that so many people are watching this to see how ridiculously stupid it is it's going to get high rating
I had to pause at the "Magneto helmet moment" and laugh hysterically for a good minute.
Overall, I think the issue in this series is that every good idea is poorly executed. A short scene where Sol instruct the others to fight the sith, while he searches for Osha, would have explained why Sol was missing. A Jedi fighting him, his lightsaber being temporarily disabled and then doing a backflip, where the Sith basically points to his helmet and says "Cortosis" and then has a dark laugh and attacks, at least explains to the audience what's going on. Even the way he says he's a sith and Sol - a jedi master - doesn't know what that is, is poorly executed.
One last thing, I think a big reason why this show is so poorly written and executed, is because the creator simply holds the Jedi and the entire philosophy around it in contempt.
She isn’t a Jedi had she have been a padawan again he wouldn’t have been able to say anything he would have been forced by Jedi code to watch her die
Been watching this series MST3K style, not a big fan, but I'll admit episode 5 had some good scenes. The triple shank was awesome. I'm also really liking Manny Jacinto now that he's fully bad guy'ing, and Sol's been alright. But unfortunately this series is just really suffering from discontinuity in the writing and directing. This Sci Fi production is being run by people who don't understand science, and don't understand the fiction of Star Wars.

Did she kick her through the side of the ship? lol
this is the best that happened to star wars for along time. a sith lord slaying jedi, everything is btw perfect in canon - haters gonna hate
Some many flaws in common sense things... That is what pisses me off more. A lot of wasted potential in the fight scenes but it wasn't like 100% crap but that can't save this show if they thought it would. It feels like give you one of two coolish parts then hit you with 4 back to back nonsensical plot points and leave you like huh😵💫 whyyyyyy!!! they have to be doing this on purpose right?!
Sol had to ask “Who are you?” after the helmet came off. I guess he couldn’t read his thoughts.

This show gets worse by the episode. You can tell the writers know absolutely nothing about Star Wars.
It sucked too? What a shock.
My question is, when Smylo pulls out the lightsaber shoto/shank why does green lightsaber girl keep attacking in the same way she’s been attacking when she can see he now has an extra saber?
This was the only episode that felt like Star Wars but I had zero interest in the main characters so this was was just eye porn.
Yeah I dunno. Jecki is only a padawan and just saw a tonne of her friends die around her. You can't expect her to be in control as much as you guys want her to be. This wasn't great but you guys are being picky.
I actually think this is the worst episode because it's a lightsaber fight we were eagering for but nonsense moment at every turns, worse plot of all.
It’s supposed to be a crime mystery thriller yet we knew from the beginning who was murdering the Jedi and we guessed straight away who the “Sith” was.
And this has so many lore breaking parts to it.
It cheapens phantom menace since the Sith at last reveal themselves to the Jedi.
Anakin’s legacy is greatly harmed.
The Jedi are made out to be idiots, the whole fight with the witches made no sense. The Jedi don’t take children so there was no need for conflict at all.
The wokeness which I do take issue with as a catholic. I don’t agree with it at all.
Furthermore Star Wars is a modern myth so it’s supposed to be rooted in mythological motifs so talking about your “pronouns” has nothing to do with mythology and virtue ethics.
It’s a soulless post modern, poorly written show, written by people who do not understand human nature, good and evil or what makes Star Wars resonate with people in general.
As Tolkien said applicability.
Virtue is applicable to everyone but since these writers don’t seem to understand virtues they can’t write any decent conflicts.
The writing is horrible in general.
The hair cutting? Are you serious? Sol knows they are twins, Sol has the force… I mean this is totally idiotic.
Why did Mae leave her sister with the Sith?
Rn it’s a mystery of what the mystery in this show is
Not that they would, but Disney might be smart to re-edit the Acolyte into a 2 hour movie. So much fat could be trimmed off of this terrible series.
Having just watched epidode 5, I must say,...its definitely entertaining. Certainly better than the prequel trilogy that's for sure. Honestly, don't get the hate for this show?
First of all, two grown men in their 40s can't recall "Swiss Army knife" or a Leatherman? SMH...
So this was the episode without a hint of wokeness in it, so the gymnastics to find reasons to hate on this episode really sticks out like a sore thumb. You're trying too hard to justify and enumerate your dislike for the episode.
Jecki is a feisty Padawan like Ahsoka was in the Clone Wars. I saw nothing inconsistent or unbelievable in her character in this episode. You're reaching.
Palpatine killed 3 or 4 Jedi who accompanied Mace Windu to arrest him, and after Mace Windu disarmed him, Anakin insisted that he be arrested and stand trial, not killed. So I see nothing inconsistent or unbelievable in Master Sol's not killing the unarmed Sith. You're reaching.
I think you mean a Sith army knife.
That ending was annoying I won’t lie
It's only "good" because you don't exactly write fight scenes, you choreograph them. Writers aren't capable to writer fights, and apparently they aren't capable of writing everything else.
Did they cgi muscles onto Darth Twink's effeminate pale noodle arms?
Hilarious to see a bunch of adults picking apart a "show made for children and young adults" to pieces....
then, the star wars franchise is truly dead...
She did lead the bugs back with a flashlight. But yes, very dumb but sabers go whoosh zap bang!
The dialogue throughout is terrible… so cringe, I can’t believe someone signed off on such a bad script
Missing how did the Sith find the only surviving girl May on the planet? An how did the Jedi know the Sith lord hid his face from his student? When did May ever tell the Jedi that she never saw her master's face?
