When my husband and i were in Boston, we went to the real “Cheers” pub! While it was small, crowded, and dimly lit, the ambiance was unbelievable, the food was delicious, and it is an incredible memory!
Phone rings in the bar: Coach: "Cheers!? Hold on a second I'll check" brief pause "Is there an Ernie Pantuso here?" Sam: "That's you Coach" Coach: "Speaking" That has got to be one of the best scenes of the entire series imo lol
Loved that moment. Disappointed Shelley was not at the recent reunion on this year's Emmys. Hope she is both well and well-aware of how much many of us, Cheers fans, still enjoy her tremendous portrayal of Diane Chambers.
I also liked the acceptence speeches a lot. I especially liked Shelly Long's decision to thank a woman of whom I have never heard and whom Long said had never recieved any recognition. Doing that, rather than thanking all the 'proper' people that everyone expects you to thank, is a real class act in my opinion.
I think it's under appreciated now. Easily the greatest sitcom at the very least ever on television, and it's the 40th Anniversary this year, and are they on the cover of every magazine, interviewed in every newspaper across the country? Is there 40th Anniversary specials on TV? For the greatest sitcom of all time, it sure gets the short end of the stick these days. Depressing.
I felt like not mentioning Coach was just an oversight. That wasn't scripted dialogue. Im sure in hindsight they all wish they had mentioned him. This was my X husband's favorite show. He idolized Sam Malone. I appreciate the cast and fresh storylines. My favorite episode is the ring box when Sam bought Diane an engagement ring off a street vendor.
'Cheers' remains great because no matter with its many cast changes, the writers never allowed it to become stale. And yes I prefer Diane over Rebecca.
Cheers was my favourite Sitcom on TV and I looked forward to the day when it comes on weekly. Couldn’t overcome with the reality that it had to come to an end. Loved all the personalities in Cheers, who truly brought cheers to all those who viewed it. The Opening song brought tons of Memories and was so appropriate.
Soy española y crecí con Cheers, soy fan absoluta desde que la emitieron aquí en 1989. Es la mejor serie de todos los tiempos, y la siento tan parte de mí como un brazo o una pierna. ¡Muchísimas gracias por subir este vídeo! ;) I'm a Spaniard and I grew up with Cheers, I'm an absolute fan ever since they first aired it in Spain back in 1989. It's the best show of all time, and I feel it is as part of me as my own legs and arms. Thank you so much for uploading this video! :)
I still remember the scene when Frasier and Lilith held the baby, Norm comes out and he screams Norm. Everyone is stunned silent and Lilith says he said my name 😂😂 Man, good old days. Cheers was truly a masterpiece. A great sitcom.
Ahh its luvly seeing these guys together again, the chemistry between them all was golden. I watch this all over again now, it cms on Itv4 in my country at 7pm, this show always cheers me up after the crappy days at work I have and its bout the only best thing I watch on tv now whats happened to sitcoms today? They're just no where near the level Cheers was.
Very much agree jksonny. Cheers was a one of a kind show that I will always fondly remember growing up with in the 80s and early 90s. Definitely in the top 5 all time TV sitcoms IMO.
That's pretty cool that the person that sorta gave the writers their big break was Mary Tyler Moore and seeing them be successful with Cheers I'm sure she was proud.
Sam y Diana eran el alma de Cheers, los dueños del bar, la pareja indiscutible,el gran amor de Sam y los seis años de Rebecca no pudieron eclipsarlos nunca.
I have only started watching this programme in the last few weeks and I absolutely love it. I have seen it off and on before but never really appreciated it but I'm a real fan now. I love the chemistry between Diane and Sam especially the bit where Diane has said she's going to marry Sam's brother and he asks will he get to kiss the bride and she tells him "I think you know exactly what you can kiss." That creases me up every time I hear it. I love it.
If there was a definition of perfect acceptance speeches, it would be the cast and writers of "Cheers" at the TV Land awards. Everyone's speech was short, sweet and well said. They also gave props to Mary. The Clarences love & support Cheers (specifically the Coach & Diane era)!
Nothing will ever compare to cheers i feel somewhat honored that i grew up watching that show.. in the same sense cursed cause nothing since has touched cheers in that magnitude in any way shape or form!
I watched the entire 11 season of Cheers and for the first time, actually listened to the "intro" because of the voice of the guy who sang the theme song and I didn't know who it was until this video. Just loved his voice.
Without the chemistry of Shelley & Ted the show would have been canned long before either Kirstie or Bebe got a chance to add their indelible imprint on it . I wouldnt have minded who was there , but no Shelley would have been awful , for me anyway
Apart from not mentioning Colosanto, they also failed to mention David Angell, who was script writer on Cheers, before he became the lead producer of Cheers spin off Frasier. He was also the man responsible for introducing the character of Frasier Crane, despite many objections from alot of people originally, most notably Shelly Long. As I am sure most people know by now, Angell and his wife were killed on September 11 2001 while on board of American Airlines Flight 11 when it was crashed into the World Trade Center.

I assume they had their reasons for not showing up. I would have been far more upset had Shelley not been there. Kirstie's awesome, no doubt, but Sam and Diane were and are still *huge*, and no amount of time can change that. Those characters and that relationship were the bedrock of Cheers and changed all of TV. Even now, shows are still chasing the Sam/Diane dynamic. As for Bebe, she's also great, but I don't put her in the same category as the leads or even the supporting regulars. JMO.

I adored this show when Shelley Long was in it and was so sad when she left but thinking about it logically if she had stayed for the full eleven years what more could have happened between her and Sam - they had run the whole gamut of emotions from leading up to getting together to being together to breaking up and the attraction still being there to getting engaged - what more was there - even if they had got married what more was there - they really couldn't have gone on for six more years t
Probably an unpopular opinion but it's just mine. While I loved the love\hate lustful\bickering dynamic between Sam and Diane and it was a very compelling dynamic and Ted and Shelley did have great chemistry, I've always kind of preferred the Sam\Rebecca dynamic because it was such an unlikely friendship between two shallow and self absorbed people lol it was complex in it's own way and compelling in it's own way because let's face it Sam Malone being friends with a woman(Carla doesn't count she's basically a dude with boobs lol) especially a knock out like Kirstie Alley was something so interesting. But the writers were so smart not to attempt to copy the Sam\Diane dynamic with Sam\Rebecca. Both were very fun and compelling relationships, though Sam\Rebecca were a lot closer as the show went on then Sam and Diane were on an emotional or friendship level
Kendall Rivers I always loved the Rebecca years. Granted, I grew up with Rebecca and Woody. If I grew up with Diane and Coach, I would like them more. I also loved Lilith. She was the perfect foil for Frasier.
That was a very thoughtful analysis. I'll always wish Sam had gotten it all-love and friendship with the same woman, but even in a sit-com, "life does not always follow a script!"

The real cheers pub was in a studio in LA.
@@tonybroderick4808 I’m pretty sure she’s referring to the Bull and Finch (aka Cheers Beacon Hill).
Seeing those two come out hand in hand felt better than I thought it would. In some universe Shelly Long portrayed Dianne Chambers for 11 seasons.
Rebecca>Diane.
Phone rings in the bar: Coach: "Cheers!? Hold on a second I'll check" brief pause "Is there an Ernie Pantuso here?" Sam: "That's you Coach" Coach: "Speaking"

R Heintz I missed coach when he died 😥
R Heintz I thought that was hysterical!
I loved that line

When Shelley and Ted walked out hand in hand. That is all 🤩👏❤😭👏😍👏🥂
Right? For that minute, forgot they were actors. Whoever thought to have them do that...thanks!

I agree, they should have mentioned Coach, I loved Nicholas Colasanto's character of Coach
Yeah that is straight up disrespectful.

I still remember Coach tutoring Sam geography: Al-ban-EE-ah, Al- bayn- EE-ah. It lies along the Aaa-dri-a-tic.
No mention of Bebe Neuwirth either. Her Lilith was the best thing about the later episodes.
One of the greatest sitcoms ever in my opinion, such warm and funny characters, comedy shows today, they're just not the same anymore.
haha they opened the door and " Sam and Diane" walked out... that was giddy ness right outve he gate!! yippee that was awesome

Well said.
Rest In Peace, Nicholas Colasanto (Coach) No mention of him at all? He was the Patriach of the cast, and the funniest...
manwomanboogie agreed
Yes indeed, they should of mentioned "the coach", Nicholas Colasanto! He was great in the show! RIP Coach!
He was sooo funny and such short time 💋
They really swept him under the rug. One of them made it to the funeral
Yes he was the best
I still remember the scene when Frasier and Lilith held the baby, Norm comes out and he screams Norm. Everyone is stunned silent and Lilith says he said my name 😂😂 Man, good old days. Cheers was truly a masterpiece. A great sitcom.
TV GOLD!!!!!!!!!! sooooooo many TV star 'LEGENDS' in one room...Bravo!

LOVELY as the CHEERS theme song plays live as Ted and Shelley walk on stage. Then Mary Tyler Moore enters. Beautifully memorable.

Quite simply the greatest ever tv comedy. Every Friday night at 9pm this was the only bar you wanted to be in.
It was on Thursdays at 9pm in the U.S.
Cheers still holds up, I love rewatching the series with my teenage son.
Brilliant. The best tv comedy ever made

No question that it was a phenomenal cast.

Same here. Was really cool to see him playing the piano and singing. Perfect intro.
I always thought he sounded a lot like Woody.
I sometimes forget Kelsey Grammer was on tv playing the same character for 20 years. Lucky guy to be on 2 such iconic shows.

I liked coach better than Woody, and Diane more than Rebecca. Diane and Sam had real chemistry.

Rebecca does not usually appear in these events, but no matter, with Diana and Sam together is enough.
