Best part of her live show.

So touching! RIP Sonny Bono, I cried when he teared up. Such memories of when I was little and watching them every week on television. Those were the good old days.
I just watched three Sonny and Cher Christmas specials and then I found this. What a way to cap a night with them. Such an awesome couple. So sad their marriage didn't survive, but holy smokes are they always charming together.
Sonny and Cher was my favorite duo of all time. In 1987, I was introduced to Sonny by a mutual friend at his restaurant, Bono's, in Palm Springs. If memory serves me right, it was on Indian Canyon Dr. He sat down with us for a few minutes and treated me like I had been his friend for years. And Cher has been my dream girl forever. Thanks Dave for making this reunion happen!
I also was watching when this was filmed. Thank goodness we got to see Sonny & Cher together the last time! We could all see that they still cared about each other. This is how I like to think of Dave, when he was young & clean shaven & dressed well. He morphed into a grungy, creepy old guy who looks like a hermit.
Am here in December 2023. Saw Cher this month in three British TVshows, at Graham Norton, Strictly Come Dancing and Cher meets Rylan. She is a real artist and a surreal human. Thanks for this precious clip!
This popped up and hit play….now I’m hysterical crying 🥺😭 Those truly we’re the days…I remember when they announced their divorce, yep cried then also. I’m 60 and watching this just took me back. THANK YOU for sharing ❤
They obviously have something very special between them that defies explanation. Everything that could be said at Sonny's funeral speaks volumes how they felt about each other. Cher said it herself "I would not be Cher without Sonny". Her emotions poured out of her, raw and honest. That my friends can not be replaced by anyone else. Life is funny, weird and wonderful.
I always thought that spoke for itself even better than the eulogy itself (which was beautiful). Seriously, imagine getting eulogized by your sobbing ex-wife because your widow asked her to do it. That still blows my mind.
This had to be very emotional for both Sonny and Cher. You could feel the love these two still had for each other. Great performance, it had me tear up even watching years later..
I've never seen the full interview before. one of the best interviews ever on late night talk shows, and when they sang together you could see the love they still had for each other
Being a child when they had their TV show and hearing “I Got You, Babe,” now was SO sweet and truly nostalgic! Thank you Sonny and Cher for this memorable performance!
In the early 70's my ex husband and I went to Magic Mountain amusement park. It was $5 or $10 dollars to get in. They had the "dancing waters" show, and there was a performance at night. The night we were there, Sonny & Cher was the act!! It was awesome!
This is 35 years ago tonight! Wow, time is a strange animal, at times its excruciating slow and tonight, it feels far far to fast. Shes always been an amazing powerhouse. RIP Sonny.
People, I'm no Letterman nor a Sonny and Cher fan. For some reason You Tube selected this video for me and I am better for the experience. Letterman was insufferable, and Cher was a difficult guest. But the love and magic of Cher and Sonny together was extraordinary. The final bit with Cher and Letterman 27 years later was something that made the whole video complete. Well done!
This was so great! Sonny seemed to be genuinely overwhelmed, and you can see that they had so much history between them, but together they were always special. Wish I had been in that audience.
Sonny was the love of her life, she would always be greatful for what he has done for her. There will always be a special dedication to Sonny, in Cher's concerts, it is a way of saying thank you for getting me started in performing, and for being there whenever I needed you the most. I will always respect Cher for honoring Sonny, it is the respect that is solely deserves. I am certain he would do the same for her as well. Let's stand up and applaud and pay tribute to Sonny. Applaud applaud. Amen.
I grew up watching the Sonny and Cher show every week. To see every thing that happened over the years that lead to these classic moments in time. . I was tearing up right along with them. RIP Sonny.
Dang, my eyes are leaking. It's so wonderful to see these icons of my childhood reunited and on such good terms. There's a kind of magic when these two are together. So glad they sang together, and glad that moment has been saved here. Thanks so much for this upload.
The last 5 minutes of tape on this video is pure joy, on top of pure joy. I didn't know this existed. I never knew they had a last send off before he left the air. That was sheer magic. Thank you for putting this all together. 🤙❤️😊
I'm so glad Cher agreed to sing with Sonny. She was definitely reluctant . . . not prepared. But as soon as it was over, I think she was happy she sang with him because it was a special moment. It was special for her and him and everyone that was watching and I think she came to realize that as she was performing. But even more so, she's probably extremely grateful that she had this moment now, considering what ultimately happened. I'm sure Chaz cherishes this moment too. It turns out sadly, it was the last time she sang with Sonny.
Agree. And it was not a given that they'd ever be on TV together again, even as guests in the same show. Keep in mind that they were not always on friendly terms and it took Cher a long time to get over the fact that Sonny tried to control her in their marriage while he was openly cheating on her. That this was the end of their public life together was quite a miracle. Circle completed, the perfect final send off from Sonny and Cher.
Sonny bullied Cher since she was around 11 yrs old. He took her in and treated her like a ball of clay never listening or respected her wants. And she became his puppet.
I remember watching this live too, back in '87 and watching this now brings me right back in my Parents' living room again like it was just last night. And I remember too how I was so glued to the Tv when Sonny & Cher were on, and I also remember my mouth dropping when they sang, 'I got you babe,' together, once more. And now.. watching it after all these years, I couldnt help but get so teary eyed.. Life... It just moves so quickly.
I showed this video to my daughter who is 32 (I'm 71) and it brought tears to her eyes. She said it was so beautiful, the deep loving relationship between these two people, Sonny and Cher, that goes beyond the physical to the spiritual if you will. Isn't this what life is all about?
In the early 70s, my brother and I would be playing outside, and my mother would call to us , Sony and Cher is on. We dropped everything and bolted to the house. We were in elementary school, and loved the show. Good memories. ☺️
Cher, it was SO obvious after watching this that Sonny still loved you!! What a priceless video!! I loved the S&S show in the 70s, and your singing was just icing!!
It does prove that he still loved her. Not so sure she loved him but she does seem to have a problem with Sonny and both of her children so you do the math.
This seems like the right place to tell this little story. My coworkers and I were discussing our favorite artists and my 30 year coworker told me how much he loves Cher. Then my 60 year old coworker and I started talking about Sonny and Cher when the 30 year old breaks in with ...."who's Sonny???" Our mouths just hung open for a minute! Time goes by so fast!!!
I remember being allowed to stay up late to watch Sony and Cher with my older sister, and our two younger sisters had to go to bed. Super great memories!!!❤ Love them both to this day!
As I have seen Cher in current concerts, she will always have a special momental memorial tribute to Sonny. Sonny, and Cher parted as friends who would still care for each other.
Wow thank you so much for showing the whole show I'm glad now that Sonny and Cher sang now that he's gone but she don't regret it now!!! This was great!!!!
I was a senior in high school when this episode aired and didn't realize it at the time, that history was just passing me by. Truly, once two lovers consummate a relationship, that connection still endures through the decades regardless of other life experiences.
Me and my sister, loved, this singers, since they started, together something, good friends are hard to find,, 😂 sometimes if the marriage doesn't work out the friendship
No one can ever compare to your first love. The love you built with your first is incomparable with any other love there forward. It may not have worked out between them, but they never stopped loving each other. Seeing Sonny cry after singing with Cher made me emotional, and then to see David getting emotional with his reunion with Cher at the end of his show got me teary eyes too. She also wore the same jacket on, too, which i thought was really sweet. 😢😢😢
Cher and Sonny...truly radiant people and to me, this is above all else the best footage to remember them. I felt for them because I don't think they knew how much they would well up.
You know, I wasn't alive to witness these two as a duo, but the chemistry and energy is just beautiful between these two. Honestly puts a lump in my throat. Sonny seems like he was such a good guy, a shame he had to go so early.
I am so in love with all of this! Cher is such a unique human! Her energy is intoxicating. Sonny and Cher’s relationship is so beautiful you can feel the connection and love despite not being together anymore. Ugh lllllloooooovvvvveeee it.
I saw this live at the time. It gave me goosebumps to watch this video, both because of Sonny & Cher and I because I miss Letterman on the air. Thanks for sharing.
I saw her in Vegas up close 5-6 years ago. In real life she does't look as amazing as she does on screen, believe me. She's had so much surgery she was almost scary looking.
This was absolutely great and I love the edit at the end, fast forward to 2015. Cher is one of a kind and that duet was a real tearjerker. They truly had a loving relationship and connection even after parting. This is why I love UA-cam!

This makes me realize how time doesn't stop. We are all getting older, we did great things or missed opportunities and no way to go back to do it all over. Just try to enjoy the few years that are left, for all who are old enough to have seen that show.
Thank you so much for posting the entire show and adding Cher's final appearance with Dave in 2015...this is probably my all time favorite Letterman show, saw it the 1st time and was thrilled to see Sonny & Cher together again, so sweet when Cher tells Dave "I'm gonna miss you" at the end in 2015, I miss Dave too....Great memories !! : )
This may be the greatest single show Dave ever hosted....and that is saying a lot. There were a ton of great ones, but this one is epic. It is almost as if the rest of the shows had been leading up to this in a way.
Well said Paul. I wholeheartedly agree. Plus, Cher never seemed quite the same after this, at least in my eyes. I love her to death, but she just seemed to age a bit after this show....
yeah, taking over the funeral when he had an actual grieving wife there. Personally I think Cher had regrets and guilt and that's why she was that sad when he died. He made her famous after all.
For me, this was the greatest reunion in the history of late night television, across the board. Epic And thank you for putting this all together, much appreciated 🙏

So touching! RIP Sonny Bono, I cried when he teared up. Such memories of when I was little and watching them every week on television. Those were the good old days.
oh how i wanted hair like Cher's! But I had short fine blonde hair and was 9 years old !
Those certainly were the good old days!
So happy that Sonny had this moment before passing.❤️❤️❤️
How bout that...
I don't know how he managed without tears...
He managed alright. He was indeed elected mayor of Palm Springs, and then moved on to Congress before he passed.
@@JanieBgrand he was crying tho after the song ...he would be dead with in a year

I just watched three Sonny and Cher Christmas specials and then I found this. What a way to cap a night with them. Such an awesome couple. So sad their marriage didn't survive, but holy smokes are they always charming together.
If this didn't put a lump in your throat, I loved it...!!
They still loved each other and had loving respect for each other.
RIP Sonny.
The Best of the Best!!!!! Even Now in 2023...💗
Am here in December 2023.
This was Late Night’s greatest show. I was 18 years old. I remember loving Sonny and Cher show when I was a kid. Love it.
I was 19 and saw this live
This is 35 years ago tonight! Wow, time is a strange animal, at times its excruciating slow and tonight, it feels far far to fast. Shes always been an amazing powerhouse. RIP Sonny.
And a month.
Well done!
Very touching to see them together and be so kind to each other. RIP Sonny.
Seeing them holding hands? Makes me happy! ❤🥰😭
This was so great! Sonny seemed to be genuinely overwhelmed, and you can see that they had so much history between them, but together they were always special. Wish I had been in that audience.
Let ermin. Behaves like a douche bag. Never liked the show but I was always crazy bout Sonny & Cher.
Amen.
Oh Yes!,,Truth Indeed AMEN ❤❤❤❤
I grew up watching the Sonny and Cher show every week. To see every thing that happened over the years that lead to these classic moments in time. . I was tearing up right along with them. RIP Sonny.
Dang, my eyes are leaking. It's so wonderful to see these icons of my childhood reunited and on such good terms. There's a kind of magic when these two are together. So glad they sang together, and glad that moment has been saved here. Thanks so much for this upload.
What a couple. You'll never recreate chemistry like this again. Absolute loved watching this.
so touching..I will always miss his big smiles..what a kind man he was
I have seen this in 1987. It was incredible.
Yep
Indeed! Didn't Sunny pas away about 10 years later?
I can't think about Sonny and Cher for more than a few seconds at a time without getting *really* sad.
@@richardmills1505 no it was 1997 over 2o years not 10
I remember watching this live too, back in '87 and watching this now brings me right back in my Parents' living room again like it was just last night.
I smiled through this like an idiot with a tear in my eye - what a great piece of TV :)
Well thousands of idiots are right there with you!
Seeing Sonny and Cher perform makes me feel like memories are more real and powerful than time.
I agree
The most memorable moment of the original David Letterman show! Still gives me goosebumps. Cher always had an incredible voice.
When they start singing the hair goes up this was such a special moment you tell how much this meant them especially Sonny
We had some of the best TV shows back in the day...their show was fabulous. I was sad when they divorced and the show ended.
In the early 70s, my brother and I would be playing outside, and my mother would call to us , Sony and Cher is on. We dropped everything and bolted to the house. We were in elementary school, and loved the show. Good memories. ☺️
AND THE MATCHING OUTFITS..EVEN CHAS
Awe
That was history in the making!!! Thank you Sonny and Cher for being apart of my life since I was born in 1968!!
What a wonderful memory ! Rest in peace Sony! Keep on singing Cher! We love you both!
Cher, it was SO obvious after watching this that Sonny still loved you!! What a priceless video!! I loved the S&S show in the 70s, and your singing was just icing!!
They clearly both loved each other a lot, but they’re probably an example of great lovers, bad partners.
S&S?? What's that? Cher starts with a C
It does prove that he still loved her. Not so sure she loved him but she does seem to have a problem with Sonny and both of her children so you do the math.
Yes,Truth Indeed
This seems like the right place to tell this little story. My coworkers and I were discussing our favorite artists and my 30 year coworker told me how much he loves Cher. Then my 60 year old coworker and I started talking about Sonny and Cher when the 30 year old breaks in with ...."who's Sonny???" Our mouths just hung open for a minute! Time goes by so fast!!!
Thank you so much for posting this.😢 RIP Sonny bono.so many great 😃👍 memories 💖🕯️🌹❤️😻 of a bygone era. . .
That is lovely to know. I am so glad you added this comment.
It reminds me of another couple George Jones and Tammy Wynette. They loved each other but couldn't live with each other.
Loved Sonny Bono. He was so sweet & funny!!! He & Cher were awesome!! He is missed.
The absolute greatest moment in late nite variety TV shows like "Letterman".. Not ashamed to admit that a tear came to my eyes.... Very touching.
Me too. I am just watching this for the first time right now. .
You know, I wasn't alive to witness these two as a duo, but the chemistry and energy is just beautiful between these two. Honestly puts a lump in my throat. Sonny seems like he was such a good guy, a shame he had to go so early.
Love his smile when she started to sing. Reminded him of their past. ♥️
brought tears to my eyes I remember listening and feeling them in and through my childhood ears
All these years later- STILL WAY COOL to watch! Sonny was an AMAZING man, gone way before his time
Cher did good, with a sore throat. Very impressive. I'm glad that she agreed to sing with him, since he was so willing. RIP, Sonny. ❤
She didn't have a sore throat she lied. She didn't want to sing with him and wanted to be begged.
@@jeffreyzeiss1326 she had bad gas & didn’t want to stand up & reveal the smell from the fart pillow she was sitting on.

I almost cried - love how they had separate lives, but came together to do this!
this video is like a historic diamond. What a moment. Excellent editing of the video. Thanks
@LAFOLLETTER Yes, he does 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
2nd this!!!👏👏👏👏❤❤❤
I've seen this before, just watched it again, was brought to tears again....so touching.RIP Sonny
I REMEMBER THIS LIKE IT WAS YESTERDAY. It still brings tears. I loved Sonny with Cher so much. Cher still looks & sounds amazing at 71 !
I suppose enough plastic surgery can make you look 30 when you're 71. I miss being young.. 💞
I saw her in Vegas up close 5-6 years ago. In real life she does't look as amazing as she does on screen, believe me. She's had so much surgery she was almost scary looking.
@@melodyd6037 I have heard that. She was so exotic looking naturally. Oh well, the industry pressures definitely have an impact on performers.
She wasn't 71 this was from 1987 it says
This was absolutely great and I love the edit at the end, fast forward to 2015. Cher is one of a kind and that duet was a real tearjerker. They truly had a loving relationship and connection even after parting. This is why I love UA-cam!
Wow thanks to who put this together and posted! This is MAGIC❤️💯 I hope we all can experience someone in this life that GETS US❤️
Sonny, when he starts singing.... I just can't help giggling like a kid, with happiness.
He's SOOOOOOO beautiful ♥️!!! Can't help but Love him.
And she really is a talent who enjoys every bit the spotlight she takes.
Sonny is also a sweet, kind, and wonderful man. I’ve met him several times, at Heavenly Valley in Lake Tahoe, sadly, where he died.
@@thejjjs7786 He was married four times!...Apparently, being sweet and kind is not enough to sustain a marriage.

Wow wow wow. First of all that was awesome Sonny and Cher singing together again!!! It is Christmas day 2022 I watched the whole show and cried through the singing of Sonny and Cher
I am watching this on New Year's Day, 2022, in London. Remembering the old songs they sang in the 60s, during my childhood.
I seen that when it happened and I though things were going to go back but they didnt..
@@Lingchow1 They looked so perfect together. It is a shame they did not try to make the marriage work, and just gave up on it. She has had loads of men since, and none of them have worked, either. She should have stayed with Sonny.
This makes me realize how time doesn't stop. We are all getting older, we did great things or missed opportunities and no way to go back to do it all over. Just try to enjoy the few years that are left, for all who are old enough to have seen that show.
Sonny and Cher were so genuine and full of love ❤
It a top ten moment in television history
Yes!,Truth Indeed ❤❤❤❤❤
They might not have been able to stay married but you can clearly see the love is still there between them. Cher was so devastated when Sonny died.
True Love
Her eulogy about him was powerful. She looked and sounded like her soul was crushed and was never going to recover.
yeah, taking over the funeral when he had an actual grieving wife there. Personally I think Cher had regrets and guilt and that's why she was that sad when he died. He made her famous after all.
@@melodyd6037 true she needs him. She isn't doin to well in the fame.
@@Fakeaorta I'm pretty sure Sonny Bono is the only man in history to have his eulogy given by his ex-wife.
For me, this was the greatest reunion in the history of late night television, across the board. Epic
And thank you for putting this all together, much appreciated 🙏
This is my first time (10/31/2023) watching Sonny and Cher on Letterman.
It's hard to feel bad for not knowing about this show because of how good it is to watch.
It's awesome to watch them sing again!
Such a great, great episode!
This is a classic moment. Cher was so devastated at his funeral u dont have that kind of reaction of u dont still love someone. I think cher was very young he was like svengali they called him " il primo" so he was just the boss & cher matured & wanted to be free. Cher said sonny was shaking during this can u imagine the memories that must have come back .
U can see how cher got so excited talking about the old days . This was really sweet. Wow
You've got the point: she matured and wanted freedom, couldn't agree more.
It looked like Sonny went through so many emotions the entire time. And he had to hold it together emotionally at the end of their singing together.
Maybe they just had them sing so Cher and Dave would stop talking....❤😂.
One of the most iconic moments on Late Night With David Letterman! I love Sonny And Cher Together🥰 And One Of My Favorite Songs Of All Time!
It took a lot of strength for both of them to get through that song. Wow.
2024....and we still love Sonny and Cher❤ thru all their ups and downs this side of Heaven, they will always complete each other🌹💕
Thank you for sharing. Loved watching these two and seeing the two of them singing together was both beautiful and touching. 💕
