- Fallout 3 was always supposed to look a bit grubby, being set in a post-nuclear apocalyptic wasteland and all, but there were aspects of it that were simply a wee bit rough around the edges, regardless of the game's grim backdrop. Since Fallout 3's release on Xbox 360 back in 2008, games have enjoyed a fairly considerable bump in resolution (among other enhancements, of course), making going back to the wasteland a little jarring.
Not so on the Xbox One X, which as you'll see from our comparison video below, sees Fallout 3 looking infinitely sharper compared to the game running on Xbox One S. See for yourself, then be sure to look out for the other Xbox One X comparison videos we've got in the pipeline.

The part where they compared the Words for the Saloon in Megaton, notice also how the power lines in the distance compare between the One and X. On the one they are jagged and somewhat blurred, but on the X they are smooth and sharp!

payed less than $250 for my pc and it can run fallout 3 4k at med-high settings around 50fps

A $300 pc can run FO3 on max at 60fps or more. Its facts they try to tell you because you guys are over hyping the XB1X on a 10y/o game.

You do know you can buy used gaming pc's for $300 with a i7 4790k, GTX970, 16gb ram, 128SSD+1THDD, i know so because thats what i paid 6 months ago. I also sold my older slower pc for $300 and sold that GTX970 for $120 and then the GTX1060 i had in my old pc for $180 and then got me a 1080ti, 500gb SSD and a 165hz gysnc 1440p monitor which ill trade up again at lil to no cost for the HDR version which is no big deal because ISP does good enough with colors of glows.
Buying a used pc is not like buying a used console, ill just add that in.

Why are you mad bro? No reason for pc gamers to get mad because in the end we still got better hardware and games. That XB1X hype will end and you will be in the same boat with low end graphics but this time at 4k with 30fps or 60fps at 1080p with new AAA games.
I'm loving how X1X is rendering the games in their true potential. Lovely for a nine year old game. But it's not just smooth aliasing and improved texture clarity, but the framerate improvements will make a massive difference.
Ye I really hope that EVERY backwards compatible game would get this treatment on Xbox One X!....If that happens, then I can more or less really put my old 360 to atleast semi-retirement and get Xbox One X to play atleast some of my huge 360 game backlog on it. Like even just on 1080p screen you can see the difference quite clearly and like you said, the better framrate is there too.

the difference is negligible. we all see the same thing. but some of us just think its not that big of a change, while others thing a smoother power line is like seeing into the 4th dimension. honestly i dont think this is ground breaking enhancement to this game based off this video. maybe if i saw it on their monitor i could see it better
I was quite impressed with the S upgrade last year, but the difference between the new X and S is literally generational...so sweet. Nice to see MS produce what gamers deserve to play on...and a great addition to my 4K TV.
This is why i buying xbox one x, for playing fallout 3 and 4 in better quality then on ps4 pro.
One question, is it a download file that make fallout 3 4k or just xbox one x make it ?

Touching Evil you know it man I'm doing the same thing. I'm going to play the shit out of fallout 3 and 4 on the x fucking amazing.
My understanding is that it is just an emulator update which allows the game to be upscaled at higher resolution and adds increased anti-aliasing and not say a 4K texture pack like the more conventional "enhanced" games, a similar thing can be seen with how much better Breath of the Wild's PC emulator works on PC despite using only original assets. What's interesting is that in theory such a process could be applied to lots of 360 back compat titles with only moderate work, though you'd have to do so game by game to make sure it doesn't break anything.
Sure Fallout 3 is very dated and Fallout 4 kinda suck, but hey what ever helps you sleep at night.
is the xbox one s set to uhd 4k in display settings? im playing old 360 games on the one s on my 4k tv and they dont look anywhere near this bad. this looks like 1080p one s vs 4k xbox one x.
I always played Fallout 3 on PS3 so I'm used to the ugly 720p muddy visuals and lack of any anti-aliasing (not to mention the game-breaking memory issues in late-game)
I've tried playing F3 on PC but I have this weird problem where I literally cannot stop installing mods and I spend more time troubleshooting the stupid things than actually playing so I end up not really enjoying the game.
And now I recently picked up an Xbox One X and a copy of Fallout 3 GOTY for it so I think I'll finally get to enjoy whats gonna be the definitive Fallout 3 experience for me ^.^ (I do however wish they would of updated New Vegas as well)

Difference is night and day when you’re staring at a 4K tv. Dialogue and general text is crystal clear. I enjoy it very much.
I still think the PC version looks better in 1080 p, the console versions to me have like a blurry haze, and it's hard to see stuff
That was in the 360, now I can confirm in Xbox one x it doesn’t have that haze anymore.

When he's talking about being able to see everything on the horizon on the X, it looks as if the camera is turned round faster to hide the fact that that the same horizon is visible on the S.
It's pretty funny that I was in the same spot in the game as they are in the first comparison when I watched this. This game looks so good on the X!

It seems to be either upscaled or running at native 4K with more Anti-Aliasing.
I look at it this way, people can talk about xbox x all they want, but imagine when this console is 200-300 console. It will be a great staple for Microsoft and gamers of Xbox choice. There giving life to games that are 7+ years old. For me I never played some of these games, didn't finish or couldn't afford them, nor did I know of some of the titles. Know imagine the kids that's are like 10 years old now and when they turn 15-18 this will be an steal and a great experience for them.

Oldest from turning something on it in the in game engine talk about future-proofing I think a lot more games will do this so in the future you will get the same results

I have an Xbox One X, and S and a full HD and 4K TV and I can see the difference of Fallout 3 and 4 ! Don't believe to those PS trolls, they are unhappy the PS Pro isn't better than the Xbox One X.
Why can't they do this with the standard XB1? Is it really that bad to where it can't improve a last gen title like this? To me it seems to me like they're purposely just doing it with the X to give fans a push to buy their next attempt at having a current gen system(what is this, their 3rd attempt in just a couple years? Is this a joke? I realize that my hardware isn't going to show extreme resolution, but I'm watching a VIDEO. All the work should be done, and the Capital Wasteland still looks like a bunch of trees surrounded by matte blankets. I don't understand what's supposed to be different.

I run Fallout 3 Maxed Out (With Settings who are only on PC like Screen Space Reflections ect.) at Native 4k60fps!! with ENB Mods better Textures, new weapons like the original AK47, M&K wich is 10000x better in Fallout wich is made with M&K in mind.
So nothing Special about the 900p30fps shity visuals version on the X!

what do you mean by "fiddling"? if mean learning controls you're pretty wrong, everyone i know that switched from console to pc said the there was almost no learning curve. one friend even said "it's basically like a controller with extra buttons."

Sylvianna I can see a difference just not a 500$ dollar one. I'll keep my S and save my money. I don't have a Pro but I would get one over the X just because PlayStation actually has games. The hardware on the X is far superior but what's a gaming console without games? Games>Hardware.

The S looks better. FO3 was never designed for 4K. All the imperfections just stick out more.

What is different is the the overall resolution and sharpness to image. Less jagged lines and such which is really nice to see.

I'm not a PC guy nor a Console one,, I use both, But what pisses me off is PC users bragging about their PC 99% of the time on how it is better then console and sh*t, is it that hard to appreciate something in life? 2nd of all, my 1100$ PC struggles sometimes to play on 4k all the time, where here we're getting a console for 499$ with 4k. Try to appreciate in life, or atleast see whats going around you.

I know this is an old comment...... but your pretty arrogant and out right wrong. The standard for pc never was 4k resolutions till recent years. In fact the majority of pc players don't play at 4k even now, 1440p and medium to high settings at stable 60fps is more common than 4k. The standard for the last decade or so for pc was always 1080p 60fps that was all you really needed. So let's stop this we told you so bullshit because it never happened you was not gaming at 4k for the past decade unless you owned some serious hardware which never exsited. You can tell me some rig that could handle 4k over a decade ago and it woundnt matter because u never owned it. End
