I was expecting a "simple" video with framerate comparison, I ended up with a 20min long video of a very interesting chat between Alex and John on Crysis tech and tricks for the console releases. You guys exceeded my expectations, thank you so much!
The games hit the fps cap set by the crysis team almost 100% of the time. I played them the other day and didnt notice any of the stuff they are pointing out. This is done to bash the xboxone bc. All 3 games gets a 4k upscale it looks clean. Ok so John is saying build a pc to play crysis 2 and 3 lmfao disgusting how biast they are. bloodborne is one of the most inconsistent games I ever saw and yet they never told people not to play it on ps4. I have played all 3 crysis games on the one x they are all highley playable dont listen to some corn ball pc/ Sony fanboys. I never beat crysis 1 or 3 so I'm playing the on the one x. They are jist trying to down, play this to,cover for that trash ps4 not having a single crysis game.
julio alcantara - Well from the video, clearly the Xbox One's are not hitting the 31fps cap at all times as you seem to believe. What John means by the 'build a PC' comment regarding Crysis 2 and 3 is because the games can run on cheap PC hardware now at a higher resolution and framerate than what you can get on the Xbox One's. If you don't want to run the game at 60fps, by all means, play the console version, he is just saying it is an option and I agree with him. Heck, if you've bought a modern PC in the last few years, a cheap GPU will still allow you to run the games at a better performance.
It wasn't really very interesting though. just 2 hopelessly biased sony guys bashing the shit out of old games that aren't running on their darling company's platform. If these were on a mystical PS4 back compat program they'd be singing their praises. What they SHOULD have been doing is comparing them to their original console release, and not a single part of these 3 games is not improved with these new entries to the back compat stable.
@Klumsy Kameleon you know what's sad, I remember reading somewhere that on pc alone they sold 30 million copies in its first year, that's roughly around 900,000,000 in total, and I'm sure after taxes, sales, and cutting checks for venders they are still seeing 95% of that money. Yet you would think they are a basement dev team working under budget to fix the game
1 does not look better than 3, it's doing a whole hell of a lot in graphical (and in physics) simulation that 3 isn't, but looking better it isn't. The textures are far behind, the models are inferior, the animation/motion capture is inferior. I could go on.
It's amazing how some of the effects like shooting leaves off trees and splitting trunks still do not occur in most games today! Well ahead of its time.
I remember being excited where we'd be 10 years after but then we got a bunch of half assed GaaS garbage. AAA discovered microtransactions, DLC, special editions, etc and R&D investments have nearly gone stagnant when they can milk games for years like GTAO with GaaS.
+Millenia Williams "Crytek has to do it" Nope. Microsoft'll do that for them. All Crytek has to do, is tell Microsoft whether things like HDR should be implemented or just a plain upscale. X enhancements are all done at the emulator level, with no changes to the games in question.
Millenia Williams MS has a dedicated team just to do this enhancements. All they need from the devs is authorization. In some cases they have to deal with 3rd party licenses too, wich can be a problem.
The truth is, Crysis is 11 years old and with the tech available in it's time (much different than today's) still looks better than most current gen games. People must respect this work, 3 games without DLC, MT, loot boxes, it's a labor of love, desire to create an immersive experience. And say what you want, there is no game so beautiful than Crysis 1 and 3, they are art creations.
@Kuma So does Crysis 2 actually... I believe they BOTH had 2 MP Map Packs, and some throw away Items for MP (like Dog Tabs and shit) from Pre-Ordering as well
Here before People complain The game is at 30fps as that's the code of the game Ms can't change game code. The game has not received a Xbox one X enchantment yet so it will run at the same resolution Resolution is the only thing Microsoft can change down to the emulator. I feel as if there's going be those dumb comments that are like "😂 Xbox one X can't run last gen at 60fps" I think people like that seem to miss understand how backwards compatibility works. Tho the game did gain some fps boosts this is down to RAW CPU power as alot of games that target 30 don't seem to struggle that much on Xbox one due to the more powerful CPU. I would imagine if the game was re worked for Xbox one X a 60fps would of been possible
That is correct and in the instances where the framerate has recieved an improvement from 30 to 60 frames/second (graw and forza horizon for example) it is because the fps was unlocked in the original code so the machine runs it the best it can. Crysis games however are locked at 30fps so it cannot recieve any improvement in other than stability.
jorge69696 at the risk of getting flamed to all hell by fans, Star Citizen isn't exactly building new, industry-leading engine technology in the way that Crytek once did from Far Cry through Crysis 2. I'd go as far as saying that Star Citizen already smells like bad technology as one of the things they're most proud of was working with Crytek in "upgrading" the renderer from 32bit floating point to 64bit floating point. Generally this isn't really something you want to boast for a game, doing that is the easy, less optimised, lazy option rather than architecting the technology to fix the fundamental issues. CryEngine was a bad choice for a space game when Star Citizen started production (smelled like a marketing decision, gamers know about how "cool" CryEngine is). Now that a few years have passed and the wider developer community have good knowledge of CryEngine and the issues Crytek faced - it even more-so seems like a bad choice for Star Citizen. But they're coping fine, which is pretty amazing, just that now we all kind of know that a lot of development time for Star Citizen is likely engine issues that they're facing. I have an interesting personal story with one of the studios working on Star Citizen, I don't feel like I have the liberty to go into details, but there are some excellent people working on the project and I'm sure it won't be an entirely awful game on release that so many cynical people think it may be, but I do fear that when it is finally complete all the marketing that has been holding up the game so far will completely disappear and people will be faced with what the game really is. EDIT: Argahrhag just thinking about it I desperately want to write about my personal story in regards to Star Citizen. There's some good people working on it but technology (and CryEngine) is not something gamers should be focusing on for Star Citizen.
Has there been any enhanced XboneX BC games in the last 6 months? Its like they did more damage with the release of XboneX. If you have been sitting around for 3 years waiting for the Crysis trilogy to come to the Xbone partial BC programme, then you are going to CONTINUE to wait now because it isn't even XboneX enhanced. Might as well just wait for the 8K version on the Nextbone.
Sony God Yes but they are really slacking over the last few months. They've done a solid job adding Xbox 360 to Backwards Compatibility but they have not done that many games that are not new releases.
Now if they would give these an Xbox One X enhancement patch I really do think these games would shine much more. Obviously there's certain things I can't fix but it would make him look really good. With that said I would love to see these games re-released on the current consoles in either the current iteration of the cryengine or just Port the game over and give console users the high-end experience that you get on PC. Given how good games like ryse son of Rome and Homefront the revolution look on Xbox One X I could imagine they could do pretty well with a Crysis Trilogy release. Crytek could even do it port the game over and give console users the high-end experienced that you get on PC. You didn't how good games like rice son of Rome and Homefront revolution book on Xbox One X I could imagine they could do pretty well with a crisis trilogy read release. Cry tech could even do it as a standalone digital release and publish it themselves giving them the max amount of profits. Of course I don't know how much yearly is involved since they were the publisher. I know that they do not own the rights to the games but I do not know how that would work business-wise but one can dream
Not really worth it tbh. The console versions of these games are so scaled back, especially with Crysis 3, to where even a 4K patch wouldn't do it justice to even the PC versions at medium settings.
@@merritt2014 I think everybody's aware about what settings those games are and that a resolution increase isn't going to change that. With That said a 4K patch would greatly increase clarity and help with aliasing. No the game still don't have Dynamic Shadows cast from object lights or ambient occlusion in the grass, I was speaking more for the people who only have consoles. I think that would be a Worthy update for console players.
Thank you for bringing up the missing 16x anisotropic filtering on the One X. I have a list of dozens of BC titles and even 2 Xbox One X titles (Dead Rising 2 and Darksiders remastered) that are missing the advertised effect. RAGE, Deus Ex Hunan Revolution, Silent Hill Homecoming, Batman Arkham Origins, etc. It's nice to have someone confirm there's an issue.
I had played 1&2 back when they were released, roughly. Then played 3 on the X last November and had a great time with it, though the bow played a large part in that. I would love to see these games get a 60fps remaster collection on next gen.
I was waiting for this video! Well done! When I found out the Crisis trilogy was BC I immediately downloaded it. When they first released I did not have a PC to run them and when I got them on my Xbox 360 I did not have the time to play through them all. Now playing them on my Xbox One X I am having fun with them. These are fun games and since I never played them on PC I am really enjoying how they play on the Xbox One X. Thanks team Xbox!
@Get Rekt Did you not read what he said about something he clearly knows nothing about? It looks better on the console that has no actual visual enhancements making it look the exact same.
I hear so much negative towards Crysis 2 and 3 but I find them to be a lot of fun. Even on the 360 they were more than playable despite the frame drops and I'm willing to bet also on the PS3 which was worse. These games definitely have a fanbase though I'm glad to see and I'd advise anyone put off by the constant shitting of these games to give them a try. I've played through couple of times now on each game and enjoyed them probably a bit more each time my as skills have improved
@@uknighted213 considering PS3 had both a worse graphics ship and a smaller amount of usable ram (only 480mb of the 512mb), they would need to spend a really big amount of time to optimize to PS3, thing that they as a multiplatform company didn't have.
This is one of the most fascinating videos you guys have done. I was quite agog at Alex's comment of the Jaguar CPU in the current consoles being only marginally better than the PowerPC CPU in the Xbox 360.
They're actually wrong, because the fact that CPU should run some runtimes and overlays to actually EMULATE Xbox 360 environment is interesting by itself, because it MUST work slower but it doesn't.
The Jaguar CPU has ALWAYS been garbage, but it happened to be a more "Affordable" option for Sony & Microsoft while keep the cost of their consoles down! Do i believe it's time to step it up Next-Gen for consoles? YES! But the trick is will a Ryzen be a Affordable option for Microsoft & Sony? Hopefully so, because most of my console friends cringe when i state, that'd pay $699.99 USD (I'd pay $750 if the leap is big enough) for a more Powerful GPU & CPU driven PS5 or Xbox Scarlett...Which is why i had to purchase my Xbox One X last year, because i wanted the best experience i could get on Console. Gamertag: BloodOath77 Steam: AncientGuardian5
I completely agree with what John says at 19:00. As I own a gaming PC and a Xbox One X it always bums me out to see their poor choices of backwards compatible games and Xbox One X Enhanced titles. Feels so pointless when they enhance titles such as Darksiders 1 (which has a remaster on the console), Mirror's Edge, Assassin's Creed 1 etc... games that can already be played in 4k on PC or whatever. Feels a lot more valuable and special when they get that game that we thought would be stuck at 720p forever and enhance it like RDR, Gears 2 and 3 etc... I'm dying to see The Darkness in 4k but at this point the game isn't even compatible at all. They really should get their priority straight and focus on games that never got a PC release and are locked to console low resolutions and bring it to the enhancement program.
This is pretty strange, cause OS that xbox use must be quite similar to to the windows due to obvious reasons, but they use this backward compatibility feature on multiplat games instead of adaptation of pc versions.
No they don't. Have you played the recent update? The flaws are pretty obvious. Halo 2 stutters constantly on a One X. Not to mention the plethora of minor bugs that have snuck their way in. If anything I imagine Digital Foundry are waiting for a few more patches before wasting their time reviewing it in a still unfinished state. I do wish they'd hurry up though. 343 disabled texture filtering in Halo 1 and 2 Classic and Halo 3 and 4. It would be nice for DF to call attention to that in the hopes they'd patch it.
Rubbish. They've never before waited for a patch to fix xbox issues before bagging it out (titanfall 2 for example). They only give that courtesy to playstation releases.
Wow, you guys are amazing! Awesome video! I personally couldn't wait for them to add the Crysis Trilogy to Backward Compatibility. MS are killing it! I played it on 3D on the 360, can't wait to play them again!!!!!!
I only have a One X and PS4, so this is definitely worth it imo. I loved Crysis 2 when it first came out. And was very excited to finally get the chance to play through Crysis 1 on my one x.
Absolutely, but I think Crytek are done with it. Single player linear shooters just don’t sell that well any more. At the very least I would love to see a remastered trilogy (or quadrilogy if you include Warhead) using the latest engine.
The early access of Hunt Showdown is doing well on the support side. I haven't forgotten the stupid BS Crytek has pulled off. How they handeled Free Radical and Vigil Games, their Crypto - Adventures, Ryse... But I like them doing a Codemaster (Dirt Rally) and come back. Dennis Schwarz is the lead designer, not Cevat Yerli.
I am an extremely picky gamer. There are only a handful of games that I can actually say I enjoy from start to finish and I can honestly say Crysis 1-3 were games I extremely enjoyed. I am SOOOOO glad they were made backwards compatible . I have been asking for it to be added to the B/C list for a while. It still looks amazing ..
Ah, another awesome video on why backward compatibility is awesome on Xbox. I hope they fix the frame pacing problem though and maybe give it an Xbox one x enhance patch
HEY! I have been playing this in Stereoscopic 3D since it was added to the Backward Compatible list! The Stereoscopic 3D effect in all 3 games is why I'm a huge fan of the series for the consoles.
@@icravedeath.1200 I have been saying that exact thing for YEARS!!! Yaa man, Since Xbox One X I have absolutely Experience Gears 3 in 3D with the Resolution bump, and again for Series X for the increased visual enhancements with Anti-Alising, and the general clean up in performance from the stronger hardware. Series X also cleaned up Crysis a bit, it stopped being so stuttery in image quality.
So many great games this fall. Black ops 4, Forza Horizon 4, Hollow knight, Shadows of tomb Raider, assassin's creed, Soul calibur 6 and red dead 2, bf V just around the corner. Back compat is just an icing on the cake. X1X is the best console ever made.
Niall Asher, not everyone wants to play on a desktop or have multiple libraries, friendslists, achievements, hacked games and you can't use your xbox360 library on pc. You can't even play classics like: Red dead redemption Gears 2, 3, judgement Halo 2-5 Daytona USA Midnight club R.U.S.E Guardian Heroes NBA Jam Hardcorpse uprising Sonic CD persona 4 arena ultimax SSX Fez Bomberman etc..
coming from a guy that played the last 20 years in PC (me): xbox series X, game pass, backward compatibility and some surprise texture updates to old gems like this one is going to be sick! I won't be able to afford a gaming rig this time when a "cheap" ray tracing capable video card is going to cost as much as this console, sure PC will be better but the price tag will be 10 times more expensive and where I live buying a console is already a pricey luxury.
Im actually impressed how good Crysis 3 looked on Xbox 360.....the original Crysis port definitely looks the worst, even though I think its otherwise my favorite game in the series, but ofc only played on PC. But he considering the technical limitations, they did rather good job with Crysis 2 and especially Crysis 3 console versions. I just wish these would get Xbox One X enhanced, hopefully one day that would happen.
I'm amazed at how good C1 looks. The low resolution and LoD problems aside, it almost looks like a current game, especially when you take into account the destructibility that we still don't have much of.
Mikey C Well the PC version of Crysis still looks great today, but the console version really doesnt....just pales in comparison what Crysis 2 and Crysis 3 were able to achieve on consoles, so you can clearly see it was a port they made using CryEngine 3.....what bothers me the most is the "blue tint" in the console version that makes the game look like all colors were "washed out of it" and thus it really isnt even nearly as enjoyable experience as on PC.
Excellent, was hoping this video was coming. The Crysis ports on 360 are a harsh reminder that those consoles were punching above their weight, with so many frame rates hovering in the 20's.
I wish crytek would release a remastered compilation of all 3 games with variable resolution and frame rate options for the Xbox One X and PS4 Pro. I know the consoles could never do these games at 4K, but the Xbox One X at least could run Crysis at 60 FPS, at high settings in 1080p.
You forgot to mention 3D support! Crysis 3 employs an over-under 3d mode that is Xbox one compatible. On 360 the 3d mode ran at sub 20 fps and was unplayable. But using the one X I get a pretty stable 31 fps in 3d making it worth going back to try out in 3d again. GEARS 3 has a great 3d mode on the one X too. Thanks for the great videos!
I remember "playing" crysis 2 on my ps3. The word playing is in quotes because it ran at lower than 30fps frame rate pretty much consistently so i never actually had reason to continue.
I've been looking forward to this, especially with Alex! I'm so glad the Crysis Trilogy got backwards compatibility because I can only play on my PC at the weekend and I really want to play Crysis again. So the timing is perfect for me!
@Damian black Because you're forced to buy remasters or pay 20 euros/month for PS Now. Would you buy those remasters if you could use disc you already bought years ago?
The market shows that people spent over a billion hour on Backwards Compatible games. Market also shows that preserving games has been a thing, since PC games are a thing. As a owner of all consoles and a beefy enough PC, I would really love to be able to play my old Wii and WiiU games on my Switch. My PS4 Pro would also gain incredibly value, if I could actually play my old PS3 (and maybe even PS1 and PS2) games on it. Not everything the competition does is bad. The downplaying is really just silly and ignorant.
I've tested all 3 games the same day they were released on X and I also caught the Anisotropic Filtering issue, it was most noticeably in Crysis 2 for me personally, also I had it a couple of times that the Night Vision effect in Crysis 1 runs at double the framerate than the game itself, which only happened on 360, not on X. I would kill for an unlocked framerate in those games, everything is better than 31fps and 40 to 50 on a Freesync display would be a dream
I played the first Crysis on PC, then didn't bother with Crysis 2 as I felt it was a step backwards. Then I bought Crysis 3 on my new PC and loved it! Even though I am a console fan, I can't go back and play these on console. They just look so bad.
I played through the Crysis trilogy on XBOX 360 and I was oblivious to the bad framerates. As much as I love DF content, they have definitely made me aware and more finicky towards bad framerates, screen tearing, texture pop in, and bad frame pacing. I miss being able to play games without nitpicking or overanalyzing everything.
Takeshi That doesn't stop people asking why though? If I want to flush 100K down the toilet it's my money and I can do what I want, but people would still question why. smh
I want Ninja Gaiden 2 to hit Back Compat so bad. Watching monsters like Crysis get such a performance boost makes me want it even more now. That game runs at sub 720p, somewhere in the 500p range, and it can't even hold 60 with that. An Xbox One version that's at least 1080 and a locked 60 on X would make me break down and get one. Ninja Gaiden Black and Panzer Dragoon Orta are already making it really tempting. Either that or a Ninja Gaiden trilogy remaster on PC. That'd be nice too. But they'd probably do the Sigma versions and I prefer Black and the original 2. Maybe if they let you switch between Black, Sigma, 2, Sigma 2, 3, and 3 Razor's Edge that'd be the ideal remaster. I doubt they'd put in the effort though.
Obviously, it happened, and I am super happy that it did. Hilariously, they did do a remaster trilogy and just like you said... it's the Sigma variants that we got. I definitely prefer the base versions of Ninja Gaiden 1+2, though Razors Edge is clearly superior to the base version of 3. Not high praise, but it is what it is. It might be an unpopular opinion, but 2 is my favorite game in the series, and is probably in my top 10 favorite 360 games.
@@hauntedhotdog Black was my favorite for years, but the Xbox One X version of 2 elevates it up to my favorite spot. Turns out the shaky performance was the main thing holding it back for me.
@@NiGHTSnoob Yeah it was originally a bit rocky, but I adored it all the same. I loved that they just dialed up the goofy NES style to 11. One minute you're fighting werewolves, and the next you are on top of a massive flying fortress... combined with the incredible action and gore, it rocked my face off. Now that the performance is locked, it's pure gold.
Great video. Just wondering if DF have ever had the chance to ask Crytek why they went with a 31FPS cap for all the Crysis games on console, instead of a more vsync-friendly 30?
Uhmm...nope.Current-gen can also barely achieve a constant 30 FPS which is unacceptable for a first person game. The games needs to get a remake on a new engine and build it from the ground up to play properly.A simple port won't do it.Look at the AC Ezio Trilogy.Current-gen consoles couldn't even get a 60 FPS mode at 1080p and those games run a 4k 60 FPS on mid range PC's(I own a GTX 1060) with all settings cranked up to max.
I've been playing these (well, 1 and 3) on the X and they are a joy to play. I've really not noticed any framepacing or the odd 31fps stutter, its just great that I can enjoy these games once again.I feel you guys are being way too overly harsh about these titles.
Why would you need this with a gaming PC? You can run any games on PC, there is no need for backwards compatibility optimizations, because everything just works. In fact, it's even better because you can play on any resolution. Sorry if i misunderstood something.
@@Leo-yn5fx then get a 360, benefit of a new console..old games. There is nothing beneficial about that. My PC plays old games too, and with better textures, resolution features etc...thanks to mods. So no, no one with a gaming PC needs the Xbox one x.
I LOVE the Xbox backwards compatibility program. Many of the games were never perfect on console, or even on PC. They have issues that are inherent to the game's code itself. However, being able to play older original Xbox and Xbox 360 games (for free) on an Xbox One or an Xbox One X and having access to all your save game data that's still in the cloud from up to 20 years ago, seeing a good deal of them in 4k with greatly reduced loading times (especially when loaded onto an external SSD), is just Awesome. Titles like the original Red Dead Redemption, ALL the old star wars games, Ninja Gaiden, etc back and on my screen now is Truly appreciated! I'm very glad and thankful for it. It's also great knowing how much money and talent that Microsoft are now pouring into new games for the platform (some of course will come to their other platform, PC's), but everything they're doing is just so pro consumer and provides more and more for us all. Anyway, props for doing these videos. I play older games on my One X all the time and I wish you guys could show All of them, but I know that's unrealistic. I'm just content to be able to Play them again!
WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOW!!!! And I can play Plants VS Zombies and Farmville at 200 FPS in 8K on my PC! It's not hard to render two characters in a room in 4K lmfao.
The release of Crysis 1 on PC is one of the most memorable moments in previous 10 years. I still remember that in early-2008 I have a PC (Core 2 Duo E8400/4GB DDR2 800/HD4870 1GB) and it struggled on maximum settings pretty significant, I also tested it with 4850 and with 8800GTX... There were no systems that can provide you near 30 FPS experience (BTW game parraleled isn't great bcoz Core 2 Quad gave nothing better) but still with 22FPS it was sooo impressive, at the moment i have no idea how my XBOX 360 can handle it even in theory... And actually in 2011 the release of original Crysis on a new engine proved that i'm right, because PC version is superior in every aspect! But i'm really curious because of it I completed the game also on PS3, it was painful mind u ((((
Well, sorta kinda. They emulate the CPU usage since the 360 was a tri core system, and then mostly let the GPU do its thing (with the appropriate instructions to run the games) since it isn't quite so specific like the last gen CPUs were. Either way, still VERY impressive. I'm sure once we get the Series X this year we will see far better performance. The entire backwards compatibility team is working to ensure all XBOne games work flawlessly (which shouldn't be a problem since it is basically more powerful hardware with the same x64 architecture as the XBOne) as well as all Xbox and 360 titles too. Might finally get GTA IV running at the full 60 fps it is supposed to run at...two consoles later. :P
I had a 360 back in the day and I didn’t notice any of those issues, really enjoyed all the console crisis games games and finally got into PC with Crisis 3
Just got a new laptop and plan on getting Crysis 2 and 3/4 that as I could obviously push the settings much further than what the consoles offer. Actually still have one on a disc but my laptop does not have a disk drive in it. So having these backwards compatible is a nice alternative for the moment. To be honest in some ways I like the way the first game looks on Console more than I do PC. I'm not saying the console version is overall better looking, I'm speaking more to the engine changes and some of the lighting changes and other things that they are able to do that they could not do with the previous version of the cryengine. That said it has been fun going back and playing to this games as I forgot how much fun I actually have playing them. I look forward to actually trying these out on a PC with maxed out settings in regards to Crysis 2 and Crysis 3.
I have a soft spot for the PS360 version of Crysis 1, mainly because it was the first version of the game I've finished (I had played it before on PC at 3 FPS), but I also like how it looks with the post processing and the blue filter.
GoTi4No The Cell processor used in the Ps3 was really powerful and even more complicated. I would be surprised to see back compact even with the Ps5 for the Ps3.
Look at how many triggered pc gamers, the phrase "yes, it can run Crysis" makes them feel so bad, just play anywhere you want and don't tell to others how or where play their games.
And a stupid one from another side... you still can't run 80% of prev-gen games and most games are still only running at 720p. You are nothing better than the pc masterrace guys, why so hard to be objective, idiot kids.
That's such good news. I was so waiting for this. Loved Crysis 2 on the 360. Are they getting the enhanced treatment as they should(!)? Cryss2 is my favorite of the series. Alone for the atmosphere of the game and New York downtown. I wonder if it wouldn't be possible to run the PC version on the One X.
LOL John and Alex you might be the only two people who played through that crysis demo level as many times as I have. Puttin that good ol' 8800gts (640mb) to work!
I was inspired to go back and watch this again after the latest DF Direct on Crysis Remastered. Man Crysis 3 looks outstanding for an Xbox 360 game, in fact it really holds up quite well. It's such a shame that one isn't 4K enhanced for Xbox One X. I really hope they'll start doing more enhancements for X360 games once Series X is out.
Crysis games beat all naughty dog game's in Graphics last gen with in game cut-scenes Digital foundry "For the most part Crytek has weaved its technical wizardry exceptionally well across all three platforms" Ps3- xbox360 - PC "Where Crysis 3 really shines is on the PC, in which we are presented with a huge leap in graphical quality that gives us a tantalising glimpse of visual accomplishment on next-gen hardware"
@Transistor Jump No they had not. They had 7800 GTX'es when developing the first Crysis. PS3 is equivalent to the 7800 GTX. The 8 series wasn't available until the early 2007, and by then Crysis was already in beta stage. Although, they did have more RAM, faster RAM and faster CPU's, the RAM part is the main reason Crytek didn't develop the original Crysis for the consoles.
The entire point of backwards compatibility is so if you already own the game you can play it on your current system. Obviously the devs would like to sell some copies of the game as well, but this isn't a remaster, it's just emulation, and it's free. Saying you wish that they'd release enhanced exclusives completely misses the point, and while I have a XB1X and a gaming PC and a PS4 Pro and a Switch and VR and everything else, not everyone does - and not everyone wants to buy a game again in particular if they already own it. It's great to test performance and to see how the stuff runs, but knocking it for not doing anything extra and saying go play it on the PC, well that's just not a good summary for someone that doesn't have a PC or already bought the game and it's sitting in their library.
WORD!!! Crysis>Halo As to the framerate issues, I played in 3D mode with active shutter glasses so the flicker wasn't as noticeable because the binocular perspective offset has the effect of blurring (not really BLUR... idk how to describe it) the little inconsistencies into a much smoother overall look. The flicker isn't as noticeable as it sounds on paper when you consider how the images have to be displayed in alternating order at what is ostensibly half frame rate by eye. I really don't care how perfect it is as long as I can play again. I'm of the opinion that any way you slice it, the Crysis series is possibly the best looking 360 gen series. It's not just the tech, it's the design and feel of the weapons, world and characters. Seph are much more believable and interesting as an alien species. Sorry to blab on. This video made my week. I love your channel and hearing about the tech-y stuff. Keep it coming.
I was expecting a "simple" video with framerate comparison, I ended up with a 20min long video of a very interesting chat between Alex and John on Crysis tech and tricks for the console releases. You guys exceeded my expectations, thank you so much!
Laurent Puichaud you don’t get simple when it comes crysis
Yeah and interesting glitches and hiccups from the games like the frame rate cap breaking randomly
What they SHOULD have been doing is comparing them to their original console release, and not a single part of these 3 games is not improved with these new entries to the back compat stable.
crysis 1 looks better than pubg
crysis was one of the only triple A PC exclusives.
Yeah it looks better than pubg way better than fortnite and blackout.
pc has 10000 more AAA exclusives than consoles in its history....
Lmao so true.
Crysis 3 looks better than majority of FPS games this generation.
And Crysis 1 looks better than 3.
@@Guitarocker493yes, but not on consoles though

1 does not look better than 3, it's doing a whole hell of a lot in graphical (and in physics) simulation that 3 isn't, but looking better it isn't. The textures are far behind, the models are inferior, the animation/motion capture is inferior. I could go on.

"But can it run Crysis?". Good job, MS. Now enhance it for the X.
Crytek has to do it.
It can't.
+Millenia Williams "Crytek has to do it"
Nope. Microsoft'll do that for them. All Crytek has to do, is tell Microsoft whether things like HDR should be implemented or just a plain upscale. X enhancements are all done at the emulator level, with no changes to the games in question.
BULLSHIT! Crytek has to do that.
I believe they BOTH had 2 MP Map Packs, and some throw away Items for MP (like Dog Tabs and shit) from Pre-Ordering as well
Here before People complain
The game is at 30fps as that's the code of the game
Ms can't change game code.
The game has not received a
Xbox one X enchantment yet so it will run at the same resolution
Resolution is the only thing Microsoft can change down to the emulator.
I feel as if there's going be those dumb comments that are like
"😂 Xbox one X can't run last gen at 60fps"
I think people like that seem to miss understand how backwards compatibility works.
Tho the game did gain some fps boosts this is down to RAW CPU power as alot of games that target 30 don't seem to struggle that much on Xbox one due to the more powerful CPU.
I would imagine if the game was re worked for Xbox one X a 60fps would of been possible
oh why does my pc play it at 120+ fps then.
PCMR.
Actually it's really easy to patch out a framerate cap
Yh and Dr whet
That's because the 360 code is 30fps
Pc has a varied frame rate
This actually is the best use of back-compat ever.
Imagine how a PC only AAA release would look like today with the talent of that original Crysis 1 team.
Look at Hunt: Showdown. Looks amazing, made by Crytek.
Not as revolutionary as the OG Crysis tho
That's what Star Citizen is supposed to be.
Indeed. Too bad they don't make actual AAA quality PC games anymore.
jorge69696 at the risk of getting flamed to all hell by fans, Star Citizen isn't exactly building new, industry-leading engine technology in the way that Crytek once did from Far Cry through Crysis 2.

One of the things I really liked about playing this on the Xbox One now is I was able to pick up used copies of Crysis 2 and 3 last week for 3 bucks.
This is one of the most fascinating videos you guys have done. I was quite agog at Alex's comment of the Jaguar CPU in the current consoles being only marginally better than the PowerPC CPU in the Xbox 360.
in some areas* it's mostly a lot better
They know nothing.

You don't need fast CPU on consoles, period.

It was almost unplayable. back then I didn't understand why but looking at these videos now. I see the detailed reasoning

Having only played this on consoles, and still do not have a “game pc” (only work one), I look forward to revisiting these. All 3 are good games!
These aren't ports of the PC versions....These are ports of the 360 versions, which were very reduced in quality.

It can't. 31fps with constant dips is a abomination.
I've been playing these (well, 1 and 3) on the X and they are a joy to play. I've really not noticed any framepacing or the odd 31fps stutter, its just great that I can enjoy these games once again.I feel you guys are being way too overly harsh about these titles.
They should make a Remastered version of all 3 Crysis games👍
Thanks for the video! Great stuff
I guess there is a benefit to getting the xbox one x even if you have a gaming pc. Backwards compatibility!
Why would you need this with a gaming PC? You can run any games on PC, there is no need for backwards compatibility optimizations, because everything just works. In fact, it's even better because you can play on any resolution.
Sorry if i misunderstood something.
Can you make sense, please? The PC version can be played on modern PC's, why would you require the Xbox?
Post Scriptum i’m not talking just crysis i’m talking about other games
@@Leo-yn5fx then get a 360, benefit of a new console..old games. There is nothing beneficial about that. My PC plays old games too, and with better textures, resolution features etc...thanks to mods. So no, no one with a gaming PC needs the Xbox one x.
What? Thats not how this works, pc can play it too and has been able to.
Fricking awesome can finally play crysis 3 now thanks df
More like thanks Xbox!
Release the Snyder Cut
Darkseid was confirmed. One of many scenes and 40 minutes of known missing footage
No one care?
There's still some console exclusive games yet to get the treatment like Lollipop Chainsaw, Neverdead, Nier and Quantum Theory
Btw, Soul Calibur 6 is native 4K on the X and 1440p on the pro. By gamingbolt. Another win for the X
XbOX wUn AGiN 👏🏻👏🏻
WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOW!!!! And I can play Plants VS Zombies and Farmville at 200 FPS in 8K on my PC! It's not hard to render two characters in a room in 4K lmfao.
Why only DF videos freezes the audio when streaming to Chromecast? Great video once again.
Valkyria Chronicles 4 base PS4 vs X1S vs PS4 Pro vs X1X please!
But i'm really curious because of it I completed the game also on PS3, it was painful mind u ((((
All forget. This running through a emulator. Technically this is great
Well, sorta kinda.
And ill still be playing it on my xbox one x
I look forward to actually trying these out on a PC with maxed out settings in regards to Crysis 2 and Crysis 3.
mean while on ps4..
referral madness not good enough
referral madness I do wish the ps5 will be backwards compatible with PS3 games
I have a soft spot for the PS360 version of Crysis 1, mainly because it was the first version of the game I've finished (I had played it before on PC at 3 FPS), but I also like how it looks with the post processing and the blue filter.
But can it run Crysis?
Yes.
More like a crawl than a run
it can run, but not good
Yes Xbox can, ps4 can't.
Great content!
Ps4 still can't run Crysis!
GoTi4No The Cell processor used in the Ps3 was really powerful and even more complicated. I would be surprised to see back compact even with the Ps5 for the Ps3.
GoTi4No True they could at least do ps2 and ps1 games without a problem. But it seems like they would rather try to sell you the games again.
@@neokgatla Early PS2 games sony changed from CDs to DVDs during PS2 so some of the games will be strange to make backwards-compatible.
I'm so hyped to play these games on Series X in 60FPS!
EA access will be available along gamepass!
60 FPS are confirmed?
Look at how many triggered pc gamers, the phrase "yes, it can run Crysis" makes them feel so bad, just play anywhere you want and don't tell to others how or where play their games.
i mean, wasn't this obvious? this is a prev-gen series
Understand them, pctards feel stupid for wasting all that money.
No they can't run crysis... 23 FPS in sub 720p on a nerfed version of Crysis lmfao :'D
And a stupid one from another side... you still can't run 80% of prev-gen games and most games are still only running at 720p. You are nothing better than the pc masterrace guys, why so hard to be objective, idiot kids.
Damn i was waiting for this soo much
Every Cryengine game runs like garbage on console.
@Anonymous226 no
@Anonymous226 it isnt garbage, just really hard to work with and designed more for pc than for console.
Need one X enhancements
LOL John and Alex you might be the only two people who played through that crysis demo level as many times as I have. Puttin that good ol' 8800gts (640mb) to work!
i know i know, your PC looks better and runs with 120 fps,now get out of here :)
but how else can I flash my e-peen at random twelve-year-olds in the youtube comments? Wait, that came out wrong
Actually pc struggle to get this 60fps with max settings.
This is the 360 port
Of course it's going look like shit 😂
actually 360 games looks very good on X
I was inspired to go back and watch this again after the latest DF Direct on Crysis Remastered. Man Crysis 3 looks outstanding for an Xbox 360 game, in fact it really holds up quite well. It's such a shame that one isn't 4K enhanced for Xbox One X. I really hope they'll start doing more enhancements for X360 games once Series X is out.
Crysis is one of those game series that should be played on a higher end pc.
with 120+ fps using 120+ hz.
1440p 90 fps is life
Definitely.
Even with back-compat or whatever it's still a pared back version
I play at 4k 60fps.
Crysis series is awesome. I love the stealth combat. Only way to play it is on the hardest settings. Started replaying this once it hit back compat.
Crysis games beat all naughty dog game's in Graphics last gen with in game cut-scenes
Digital foundry
"For the most part Crytek has weaved its technical wizardry exceptionally well across all three platforms"
Ps3- xbox360 - PC
"Where Crysis 3 really shines is on the PC, in which we are presented with a huge leap in graphical quality that gives us a tantalising glimpse of visual accomplishment on next-gen hardware"
Maximum downgrade here.
I am Prophet,I am outraged
I’ve literally been waiting for this to happen.
But I want a remaster
You know the best place to play Crysis trilogy backwards compatible.....PC.
60fps.
All graphic features enabled.
I tried but i had less than 60fps, about 10 times less 🤣. i'l Better Play Xbox version
keksu your PC must be bad then. if it has intel HD then of course it'll run terribly. integrated graphics are not meant for gaming
Its even hard to call it PC, more like tablet with keyboard and WIn10, but for me it's good enough.
keksu little harsh for me to call it bad then lol, but yeah thats not gonna do it for 60fps
keksu the Xbox one x version drops to 21fps in this video.....I’d take a tablet or a phone over that haha
