Back then there was no interleague okay so the 2 teams that played each other in the world series had never played each other during the regular season
There was also no divisions and playoffs. The team with the best record in each league went directly to the World Series. That all began the following year.

Believe it or not NBC, the Tigers and Commissioner Frick received thousands of complaints over the 'unusual' performance.
Jose unintentionally caused a stir in the way he sang the anthem-common now but not back then!
