You can hear the joy in Costas' voice and delivery as he recalls the history of the Browns. He's such a great broadcaster and especially baseball lover, and I'm so glad he made St. Louis his adopted home.

I have clear memory of walking from Natural Bridge Ave to Sportsman's Park on a clear day in summer of (probably) 1949. I asked my dad if our team was going to win. I never forgot his answer, ""No, we're going to a Browns Game".

I wear a Browns hat and jersey when I go to Cardinal games. I went to the throw back game between the Cards and Baltimore about 10 years ago, when the Orioles wore the Browns uniform and decided this will be the only time I will get to root for the Browns. Browns won 8-1.

greg wilkinson. Awesome. As a fan of the history of baseball I love it. Unfortunately there is no successor to the Kelly's Killers or other non Reds teams (most of whom also called themselves Reds), we do have family though in that the Braves and to an extent Red Sox are sons of the Wright Brothers, and the Nats have a lot of connections to the Reds as well, mainly because of the influence of Jim Bowden.

Lesson to be learned: If you don't want to lose your team to Baltimore, don't name your teams the BROWNS!

    I recommend it highly!

Bill Veeck: best owner ever. That "grandstand managers" idea can't be beat. Oh, and my second baseball hero, Roy Sievers, was rookie-of-the-year for the Browns. Tore his shoulder, so Veeck hit grounders to make Roy a 1B. The Orioles didn't want Sievers, so the Nats got him. In 1957, Roy Sievers became the first Washington player to lead the league in home runs...even though the "shortened" LF line at Griffith Stadium was about 350 feet. MLB wanted Veeck gone, so the Lords of Baseball refused to let Veeck move the Browns to Kansas City...where they might have carried some fans from outside St Louis.

I think the Browns also wanted to leave to California and be the first West Coast team. There were some concerns with air traveling, but that had taken care of itself.
But then the plans stopped once the Pearl Harbor attacked happened and owners now didnt want to move near the coast.

I can kind of see why the Orioles would distance themselves from the Browns, kind of like how the Rangers distance themselves from the Senators. Lack of talent, lack of success, and far from a rich history. The Dodgers, Giants, and A’s didn’t distance themselves because of the amount of success and talent that they had before moving to California. The Browns only won one AL Pennant (1944) and one HOF (Sisler). Other than that, sorry to say, not much to speak of. I see the reasoning behind it.
