Ive been aware of jess since the jam track central days. Shes always had tons of character in her playing and has great stage presence even in videos like this. Shes a proper great musician. Her original songs have gotten really good in the last few years, i recommend giving those a spin.
Carlton's bending is kind of analagous to the sound of a steel guitar. Jess does a terrific job of bringing the same soulfulness to this tune that Larry did. It's beautiful work. I'd like to hear it without the distortion on the guitar. The guitar, just by itself, without effects, is beautiful. Nice work, Jess. Addendum: Interestingly this song is impressive without relying on guitar pyrotechniques. It's a slow song that is melody oriented. So often the public is impressed with the speed that a guitar player plays at. Speed is a specific technique, that can be learned. Melodic playing doesn't necessarily need speed as a component to be impressive. This song is a great example of that.
I just had to come back again and hear this song on Father’s Day. It is so touching to the soul.
