Not to be rude to the original artist but I absolutely love this cover way better than the original
Never mind the fact that Jess is a "one of the great female players", she is simply one of the great players. Close your eyes; you can't hear gender in the music; you just hear great phrasing and tone.
I'd disagree with you, in general, but in this case - yes.
Let's not get carried away. Long way to go. But farther down the road than most. Just listen to Hutchings play and you can understand where she stacks at this point. But she's well on her way.
I closed my eyes and heard an attack helicopter playing guitar.
Greg Vinson hey bro. You know nothing
Right said, Fred, uh, Greg!
COOL! So kindly!
What sets this gal apart from the so called best girl players is she is never rushes through the song & pays attention to melodics while still letting it rip. No hair toss ,look at me shred shred shred with no real feel. She can shed as good as they but she has feel & technique in droves something i rarely hear in girls her age even if this is an older clip it's still her best & Larry Carlton would be proud. Thanks to Alex for helping her & man what a solo he drops before Jess takes it out. I've been playing since the late sixties & i must admit she is the real deal . Fantastic tones ,bends & the cleanest of notes. And here she's only 16 , Holy Moly what a pure talent. Great work young lady as is all your shared music. As one guy here says it makes no difference male or female this is about talent & great playing.
This is such a joy - to watch or listen to.
Amazing. On what planet might wearing the 130 people who gave this the thumbs down? Skill, feel, expression - everything. Congratulations folks.
still watching 2019 😎
Amazing!!!
I commented 7 years ago and I still say, WOW!
Virtuoso playing there. I'm not even sure how you make a guitar sound like that. Stunning physical feel.
Jess Lewis and Alex Hutchings! wow that was some nicely played and recorded guitar playing indeed, Jess's touch and feel is so f**king good, nice one guys!
Perfect ! Just perfect.
This girl plays with her soul. A rare gift achieved by few ...
Oh my god!!! This is fucking incredible
I love Larry since ever. This interpretation from Jess let me leterally let cry. Almost unpossible to surpass the emotionall feel that Larry put in this piece of song, but Jess in this was able to keep fullyoriginal partiture with her own soul. Greatest interpretation ever
impressive this emotional guitarist. I'm falling in love with his play
Amazing!!
Both of 'em never cease to amaze me. Probably the 50th time I came here just to gawk at the phrasing, tone, and pure genius from them. I can't give enough praise for this performance
oh wow, what a gorgeous jam! Jess has one of the smoothest phrasings I've ever heard, simply impeccable.
just love it
Totally amazing!!
awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thank you Jess! You just saved me from a long bad day
Jess’ smile at the end is priceless.
really she plays wonderfully ! ...
It's so cool to hear a great player coax that fat sound out of a strat.
Love You Jess You are so good , keep up your playing You make me so Proud
Such wonderful playing! Thanks for letting us hear you guys!
Both of them r incredible! Love it!
Beautiful playing! Tone brilliant and feel...❤️😍🎼🎸both solos rocked! And thats why i want a fender
Sometimes you just aren't ready for a track to end. Absolute soulful quality of the highest order ♥️
A very very well done rendition of one of my all time favorite songs, Thank You
I've been watching this over and over again. Great take on such great song. #respect
Hellz yess!! I am so down with this right now!! So gorgeous & symphonic!
Who doesnt love this! Unreal , Both Jess and Alex solo's . What a piece of fine art guys! THANK YOU
Such grand expression and emotive feeling this is the energy I love to see guitar players express, its such a joy to listen and see, two wonderful players to.
Loving this. Top playing.
Very precise and beautiful playing from Jess!
She plays this with great restraint, sensitivity, feeling and technique. Fantastic.
such talent
You save my night! Thanks.
Larry's original solo always takes my breath away. Jess did a great job
Amazing. Incredible. ( shakes head in disbelief )
...and you know what youre talkin about Brion!!!
I second that Nelson!
Flawless!
Makes me smile every time I hear her play this...wonderful.
Yeah, this brought tears to my eyes!!! Wow!!!
maravilhoso!
Wow, she is amazing, I love her sound.
I never tire of watching this after 100's of times - such impeccable tone and phrasing. This is a lesson unto itself which incorporates the absolute best of the jazz-rock idiom. Jess has such control over every note. She even adds more microscopically-accurate flavor to each note than Larry did on the original.
I liked your comment so you can watch this again hehe, enjoy ;)
Agree!
Not sure how I've never seen Jess Lewis before. I love her style. Her use of string sliding and vibrato is excellent. Great stuff.
Wow! Thats so damn awsome!
GREAT !!!! love you
Que top! Dá vontade de passar o dia ouvindo! Usei este vídeo como aula pausando e pegando cada escala e ideias! Obrigado!
Wow, Jesse really knows how to make a statement with her guitar!! I never feel like she rambles.... which is rare in this genre nowadays. She really plays with a lot of feeling and timeless phrasing. I can see her opening some eyes for a lot of players in the future.
Both truly great!
amazing.... love that backtrack :3
The smart girl don't tries "fighting" the amazing Alex's solo, but doing her own thing, and it's very well done, indeed. Hat up!
Wow, Alex Hutchings really is underappreciated in this comment section. Thought his solo is actually great.
Yahtzee, awesome
Maulanna Maryunani totally awesome...
He will be touring with Steven Wilson now, really looking forward to the show in February!
Alex is great god too ..
Honestly, the girl sucks
Just one word...amazing!
Incredible feeling, specially Jess Lewis. Pure music!
First off:no more excuses about your hands being "too small". PRACTICE.
exactly.
Small feet too apparently. Big hair though.
Yngwie is giant his hands look normal for his height
umm can I say Guthrie Govan and go? lol sry for being cancer byw :)
I do think he is better thow :p
3:45 a phrase from above, god this is pure genius, you both are amazing but no I won't quit guitar now even if I probably should ;)
This is just Epic thanks so much amazing musicians
Great playing, both of you. Good tone, great feel, great chops and taste. couldn't have been better, IMO! Keep 'em coming!
What can I say! Simply superb.
Jess, I love that run 5:18-5:25
played so nicely
thats the gasp out loud moment
My fav run too ,perfect note selection
Wonderful!
You two are awesome! Just Fabulous
無茶苦茶うまくて感動した!!
This is the only track available on the site that does not have the main solo transcribed. This is because it is a cover and Jess plays the track pretty much note for note. The free download comes with Alex's parts transcribed as this is original. Thanks
ㄹㅎ
Amazing!!!!!
Hermoso cover ,mis felicitaciones !!!!!
I hope Larry Carlton is seeing this. Magnificent!
Everytime someone tells me "my fingers are too short for exceeding at guitar" I show them this. I love the unique precise technique of Jess and the miniscule intonations that only Alex brings into playing so perfectly. Isn't she a student of his? Could hear this all day...
He has and does not like what he sees here one iota. ( But its okay he doesn't mind)
This kid is just fantastic in everything from her timing to her choice of notes and attack. Plus she seems like she's having a great time - though she always seems shy. Unleash her with Tal Wilkenelfd - these two would be crazy in a band together.
Wil RockQ just BTW the solo she plays is note for note from the original recording
Angel Vera I believe she just plays the original intro with the turnaround. At 1:22 she starts improvising. At least, thats what I hear ;)
Rinke Heerema nah I know this solo note for note because I did a report on it at school and I performed it. It really is note for note the same just find the original and listen to it
I keep coming across this video every now & then over the past couple of years … And every time I do I always have to watch at least once if not twice or more … I think I watched it the day before yesterday & here I am again …
And here I am again maybe nearly a year later . . .
I keep watching and watching. This is absolutely HAMMER !!!
Jess!! You gonna be a legend!!! .... Oh wait, you ARE a legend!!
WOW ... better than the original. thank s Larry for this tune, thank s Jess and alex for your new version
yep. one of the best take on this song! I even say that this is better than the steve lukather's one (with larry carlton!)
Better than the original? Definitely a nice cover but not better than LC's . I do enjoy the interpretation and tone in this cover.
More videos please. It's pleasure to listen both of you. Great job..
Loved this. Best ever. Put a lot of feeling into this one .....
That groove reminds me a lot Peg by Steely Dan...
Larry Carlton (who has played with Steely Dan) has his own instrumental adaptation of the song, which he uses for his solo shows. This improv is based upon that.
Carl Olav håkå You are right Carl, Larry played that. The thing is that the groove is quite similar to Peg by Steely Dan.
Matteo Allegra Sorry Matteo, but the bass line is not similar to most 80's pop hits fortunately.
Matteo Allegra
Hahaha. I hoped so! Steely Dan is a too serious thing to allow anybody to joke about !!! :)
Oh, txs a lot !!!
I'm a huge Alex Hutchings fan, but I didn't know Jess... she is an amazing player!
Amazing...
Amazing ! i love this :)
That lick at 5:17, wow.
SUPER
a melody is a melody is a melody. IMHO Room 335, the original version, is 80% rhythm section. The genius Carlton just did what no one but Larry Carlton can do.
beautiful...
Can't help but love em both. Exquisite
i love it 2:50-3:00
and yeah this girl makes me so embarrassed -__-
Jesse started playing Bass in 2017, and she also rocks on the that. She's a talented and creative musician. It's great more and more girls and young women are playing music, we all benefit, more/different music created and an increase in talented artists like Jesse.
Jesse's UA-cam page,(she has a playlist of her Bass covers)

why do i hear so much steely dan?
@@a.lk.studio And because Larry is all over so much of Steely Dan's work.
@@a.lk.studio oh yes, ive been jammin/testin my sounds with some jazzy an funky chords, bebop composer(cant recall his name...) still got jazz thou i play the straas
Beautiful guitar 💞🎸
Great playing all round on one of my favourite compositions.
Jess, could talk about the effects you are using ? that is cool tone and sustain. Very clean ! many tks
I really, really like her tones, dynamics, etc. too! Hope she'd share the specs of her signal chain starting from guitar/pickups (custom shop? What pickups?) to pedals (brand/type/model, etc.), amp, settings. That was truly amazing playing and sound! I've watched this a few times now, too. :)
Jess - SIT UP! Can't see your face - posture!!! Alex - well done! Both play well. Alex has that extra fire though!
teezzur Agreed.
Wonderful! Absolutely pure talent.
Incredible - amazing playing and wonderful tone!!! Excellent cover, thanks ^_^
NOW THIS IS WHAT I CALL FEMALE MUSICIAN!!!!!!!!!!!
The rest can go to ****
DAMN this was awesome!
What a stupid comment, you can't possibly be a musician of any worth or experience if you have that attitude.
She's a great musician regardless of gender. She beats the pants off most of the guys I know. We shouldn't expect a girl to be any less a musician than a man. There are plenty of women out there that are far better players than most of us guys. Susan Tedechi, Orianthi, Jennifer Batten, Ana Vidovic to name a very few.
hueseph Well said. I don't know why either of us bothered to reply to Coverguy88 though - he's clearly one of the dumber humans out there with very limited knowledge of well....anything.
Tal Wilkenfeld! And yes it was a lame and stupid comment op made.
hueseph lol, Orianthi ffs.
in japanese "subarashiiiiiiiiii" !!!!!!
Subarashi! (Shorter by one ' i ' when used as an exclamation. utsukushii > utsukushi! )
fuckin weaboo
+Jari Satta 素晴らしいすばらしい
Blimey!! 2 great guitarists. That was brilliant
This is my favorite version of this song. The marriage of the soft, jazzy pop with searing guitar solos was what made yacht rock so fun.
