- Today we are touring a pre fabricated/prefab home in Los Angeles. This is a one bedroom one bathroom backyard home build by Cover. This is what about $200,000 will get you in Los Angeles (excluding land cost) for a luxury pre fabricated home. Note - this is footage from February, I initially wanted to tour another larger pre fab to show the differences, but due to current circumstances I am going to wait until it is safer to do so!

This is not affordable living? I’m struggling to understand the purpose of this video other then advertising for the company. She forgot about pre fab double wide houses that are all over the country. They cost under 15k for over 800 sq feet. Also wolf subzero are elite brands this is more of a house for rich kids who can’t handle living further then the backyard from their parents.
Nice, but it defeats the whole "affordable" aspect of home buying. They should really try to strive for an affordable price point, $50K to $100K
If Ikea made a home this is what it would look like
Saying "Alternative living" is kind of a cut down, because out of all of human history, people were lucky to ever even finally have a house with four walls and a bathroom at all, and that is mostly in the last 200 years. Living in a big house is actually what is "Alternative living". 🤷
Less than 400 square feet for over $100,000? That defeats the purpose of it.
200k is an outrageously high price. spend another 100k (375 a mont) and get the land, and a house that's 6x the size.
For a two bedroom unit reasonable price would be 80-150k dollars or max 100-200k, instead of 150-300k. Tiny bit of rip-of.
"traditional homes take 3-6 months to construct" however "prefab home take roughly 8-10 weeks in the factory and 4-6 weeks on land" ...so nearly the same amount of time for the average home
EVERY ONE KNEW WHERE THE FRIDGE WAS
$500 per square foot construction cost not even including land is stupid expensive.
Shelby thanks for actually doing your research and talking about the Sears part instead of reporting it as a brand new thing. Gives you way more credibility and was really interesting to see!
This is a good book. Does provide a step by step introduction to how to build things
I live in a 1948 Sears House - very solidly built! All the 2 bedroom houses in my neighborhood Glenmont, MD were Sears kits. These were post-WWII houses built in DC suburbs to house Federal employees in 2 bedroom starter homes. I love my house, it has been improved by various past owners including me.
"cost of living is too high, so people are looking at tiny homes"
My mom still lives in a sears home. She loves her house and it has a lot of character.
I love how he "lives" there but everything i can see there tells me nobody lives there.
The real problem is that people's wages can't keep up with costs....
Love this house and the concept - I can imagine living in it. Yes, please do more of these videos on alternative home building concepts.
We are having one! Starting hopefully next month. It was a bit delayed but we can’t wait to move in. Ours is a little bigger though :). Big thumbs up so far for this start up!
“The size of normal houses” NO! That is a mansion wtff.
