My parents never had issues with the home and it is still good after 50 years. This "might" work in California where prices are sky high but even then it's the cost of the land that is mostly sky high vs the cost of actually building the house. what's wrong with having engineers from apple, spacex, tesla and ferrari? it means caliber engineer and designers capable to capture the middle class market. the question is, if it is true though; if it was indeed true and not just engineers and designers who were just short time university apprentice (school affiliate) for the summer. On the hardware side, those spacex and tesla engineers are considered the 10x engineers and 100% legit to find another job with at least 3x pay from their current job. 10x means they can do 10x what ordinary engineers in the market can do. it is well known in the industry. these guys got $10M from founders fund (the famous billionaire peter Thiel) in series And another $60M in series B. founders were chosen by ycombinator the worlds most famous #1 accelerator located in silicon valley. ultimately, they should be able to lower the cost to $150k and they will reach the J curve chart in valuation. $350k is indeed to much. $350 was the cost of everything and not just the physical construction (inclusive of permits and everything).
As a Mexican architect, I could build the same amount of square feet for 28k. I also think that the measurements of the house are wrong, because you are not taking into account the mezzanine slab (the roof of the parking lot) which in that case, would be at least double the square footage, so it would have a price of 56k . Of course, not including the land.

I’m going to give this video a chance because you’re a great presenter, Enes. Though when I saw that this is a house designed by tech bros, I was pretty sure it was going to be a bad value proposition.
This is a great book with a lot of good construction tips The sheds featured in this book are probably built better than most peoples' homes. ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxzaRUJNcbypw-fRBDbqqz43ULIa-1EGP- The author uses only the best materials and methods. It proved to be a great resource for my little 8' x 10' shed project and more 400+ plans. If you are turned off by the flimsy tin and home center kit sheds; if you want a shed that has some character and can be used as an extension of your home; then this book is for you.
For 350k you can buy the property in a nice place + 2 bedroom 2 bathroom new home that you build with even better furniture than shown. This includes cost of getting a good architect, permits, and other expenses including taxes. Or a three bedroom home.
I appreciate you trying to show us something innovative and under a million dollars, Enes. I know that’s not an easy task right now. Like, you show us all these houses that are tens of millions of dollars, and we’ll never afford those. That’s OK, because they are almost always marvels of engineering, or in astoundingly beautiful locations that are a pleasure to view (even if only through a camera). There’s just something a little off putting about showing us a home that 99% of us still won’t be able to afford, but calling it “affordable.” Better to just say “Luxury ADU” and let a few people be pleasantly surprised that it could offer us an affordable housing solution way, way, way down the road.
The recessed light and plugs are very nice looking but... In reality they are a nightmare! They will eventually need to be changed if damaged or if the owner wants to add more plugs etc, that means that you will have to make a hole into the wall just to get them out
@@facetiouslyinsolent8313well it’s not crazy in many countries. It’s crazy in the US but not in many others. I’ve been to many countries before, some charging a min of $1000 and you can’t get anything, perhaps a parking space for 350k.
As someone in the trades, this is my concern as well. Space efficiency is great, but those dead spaces behind walls, ceilings, etc are not just unused. That being said, they leave the seams exposed inside so maybe you can just pop off panels and easily access the internals which may be even better than having to cut sheetrock then repair it as we do currently. Also it looks like they have enough lights and outlets that you probably wouldn't need to be adding a bunch post-build.
Sure, a small house that’s beautiful and has all the bells and whistles is nice, and probably makes sense to someone who has lots of money and limited space to build, or just wants a small weekend getaway, but for most people it’s simply too much money for a tiny house, especially when you can have a really nice tiny house built for $125k or so. To each their own.
There is a saying that even though a sparrow is small, it has all the internal organs. This mini-mansion can be described with this sentence! It’s great, we finally got to see a mini-mansion that the average person can probably afford, and I love it! I like the concept of it being surrounded by wooden boards, like living in nature or a tropical forest, it feels warm! I also like its sliding glass assembly, which allows the entire mini mansion to have plenty of natural light! The amazing thing about the studio was that it was alike a functional B&B Apartment, fully equipped! It’s great to be able to design your own mini-mansion. You must feel very happy living in it! The plot of playing the game at the end really made me feel happy. Happiness is actually around you, waiting for you to discover it at any time, it is just so easy! The only thing that makes me curious is how soundproofing it is? If this is okay, it's perfect for me! Thanks a lot for sharing, really great job! Enes, I wish you all a happy Christmas holiday and a great coming year! 👍🎅🙌❤🎁🎄🎉
Regarding the first home: I love Silver Lake in Los Angeles. That home is definitely surrounded by multi-million dollar homes. My lender/homebuilder recently recommended these guys to me but I need at least 2000-sqft. I’ve worked in construction and know that the cost of this home is due to the [foundation] engineering on the slope with a retaining wall. Find a flat parcel and deduct 100-150k.
Yeah, Tesla: built like crap, hugely inferior to proper cars being noisier & less comfortable, missing so many comforts & features, and you overpay for blatant lies they constantly tell you. Tesla promised millions of people would be *_making money_* with their fully self-driving robo-taxi Teslas in 2019... And it's even horrible for society: Built unsustainably, supports 🇨🇳 and goes against then interests of the West, and needs so much subsidies your tax burden goes up massively.
@@aleksandra4653 Maybe just because other car companies offer more choice of models, while Tesla only offers two versions of two models. Also because corrupt governments like mainly the evil 🇨🇳 have forced it upon us...also causing everyone to have to pay thousands more every year in more taxes to pay for the massive subsidies for the cars, for their manufacture, for the batteries, for the charging network, everything! Above all Tesla only made it because they scammed everyone with lies about people going to make money if they buy Teslas, Musk said that in 2019 people will make thousands because their Teslas will make them money as robo-taxis while they sit at home. It's all a huge scam. And an environmental disaster.
The big issue i see is security with this. They key fob system is a bad idea, cars are regularly broken into and stolen that have key fobs and no physical keys with the use of a repeater, with this system if you leave a extra key in the house, or if you are sleeping and have the key in the house the repeater can easily open up your sliding glass doors and now you are in danger.
People who are brainwashed to buy Teslas that freeze in the winter and can't drive further than around 200 miles before you have to spend the night to charge it arent't the least bit concerned about common sense things like safety or locks on the doors... you watch, people in places like Los Angeles will be buying these hand over fist.
I would LOVE to binge on this content, tiny houses, old vintage abandoned houses, not only the fancy stuff that I will never get to see in real life!!! Loved this!!
Spending less on a 3,000 sqft home in a nice area is truly efficient, and the money savings cover the extra utilities if it’s higher for many many many many years. That’s a storage container on top of a slab with a garage door under it.
This price works as an ADU in California where median home prices exceed $1M and nice rentals with garages are few and expensive. Increase your home’s value and rent out the tiny house.
Enes: Here's a half-hour infomercial on this company's tiny homes Enes fans: Wow, you're amazing showing us the latest and greatest, thank you so much. Love your production values, blah blah blah...
You need to have a big enough garage in California to pay the thieves as many reparations as they 'deserve' according to Californians... The glass garage door and home's large glass surfaces are like shop windows for the democrat-sponsored looters.
The only tiny home I have seen that has a garage - a necessity for many, especially electric car owners with chargers in the garage! I love it. Can hardly wait until it becomes more affordable. I'm in.
Only in America the garage can be as large as a house. As others have said the house is way too expensive. The Cover website only says something generic about "our homes pass the most rigorous energy standards". But there are no energy numbers or rating. My new home comes with pre-fabricated walls, too. But I will get 36 cm of clay and not plastic.
I will never understand the obsession with energy standards. I open my windows everyday unless its humid outside so why would I care about energy efficiency
@@SusanChristmas Energy efficiency = money. Of course, I open my windows in late spring to early autumn. But not in winter. And many houses shown by Enes have ACs which also cost money.
@@beatrixwillius I love opening my windows in the winter and keeping the air at 63 in the summer. I like it cold. I should realise other people would rather spend less on these things. I save in other areas I don't go to the salon for hair or nails and I don't like to travel and prefer to cook at home so I guess this makes up for the extra cost in heat and air.
@@DEUSMUSHISHI What better options ? I like fresh air. I live in a home that's over a 100 years old. These prefab home manufactures are absolutely INSANE. How they even have a business is beyond me. there is no logical reason to spend the money on this house this size unless you have so much money you just want to blow it in this.

I can't decide: if this home looks like a trailer or this trailer looks like a home? Indeed this shipping-container-home concept is too much futuristic for me.)
If it's less than 500 square feet, why would there be a need for a two-car garage? Would a one car garage be better suited with the remaining space dedicated to much-needed additional room?
LOL... A tiny home built like a Tesla? Guys, it has cement in the garage!!!! It has an electrical panel and a water heater. Oh boy, I am getting my check book! I wonder how much they paid Enes to do this video with a straight face?
The price is crazy for the size. The idea is interesting but this is for sure early adopter tax levels. The garage height is too low at this location. Even if you don't need it for a larger vehicle the no headroom is a complete downside. I mostly want to see how the cosmetic paneling works. Can these be moved post construction? How do you deal with hanging wall objects? How do you deal with any electrical changes that might come up? How easy are repairs for that and plumbing? Or how easy are repairs in general with the prefab sections. These are the real important questions.
I think is expensive, to say the least. I will compare apples with pears; but for that price you can buy a 4 bedroom 4 baths with a large garden (pool included), by example in Mérida, Mexico. So, I know that is California, but they still need to get the price down.
Where is Mikey? Enes, you should tour a house by the people who have a contract to build houses on other planets. I think they were featured on 60 Minutes.
Yeah, unless you're talking about a condo in downtown Manhattan or Beverly Hills, this is way too expensive. I do think it looks very nice, and I appreciate the fact that there's just one company that takes care of all the paperwork (well, for California/LA) and then it goes up quickly on site. There are several questions/comments though. 1) What's the lead time before they start building? 2) You were using wide angle lenses that make everything look bigger. It was particularly noticeable on the outside deck. It looked like it was 100 feet long through the camera, but it's probably only 40 feet. So walking around the rooms saying "look how spacious" is somewhat deceiving. 3) As a realtor, you know when people look at houses that are over 15 years old they always talk about remodeling. This looks like you're stuck with what's there. If someone wants to remodel the bathroom, how is that done when everything is prefab? Is close the only company that can do the remodel?, etc. I just remodeled a couple of bathrooms that involved tearing down walls and rerouting plumbing. I don't see how that's doable here. 4) Those walls looked pretty thin. Insulation? Maybe the panels can be made thicker (don't know since I haven't checked out the manufacturer's website. 5) rooms always look bigger when there's nothing in them and no clutter. Have someone live in there for 9 months and then drop in unexpected to see how much room they really have to work with and not once you've cleaned everything out and thrown away, so it looks good when someone visits. 6) Kinda related to #3, this looks like your own personal apartment. Now, if you outgrow an apartment, you just go somewhere else. Is the intent here that every 6 years you sell a prefab house and go into another one? I really did like the look of the place ... and I think it looked great as an ADU .... but it looks like it's really only useable as an apartment alternative (and darn nice alternative) that you "throw away" when you've outgrown it or need a change.
I lived in a tiny home and loved it , I want to do that again , because in reality you really don't really need a lot of things or space , just enough for your individual needs
I appreciate what they're trying to do. The price is a little too steep at the moment, but I guess with time they'll explore some new materials and techniques, eventually bringing the price down and the quality up. I'll be sure to follow their progress in the future.
I live in the SF Bay Area in a 600sq ft 1 bedroom condo community. My neighbor just listed his Condo for $350K. In all honesty, I would jump on this tiny home in an heartbeat, given the design and amenities. The kicker is that the unit price is inclusive. The next kicker is that you could immediately sell the unit for $700K in this market. Instant equity! Yea!
My grandparents owned a Sears catalog Home in VA. Later on I ended up working for Sears construction Division building the homes for a short time before it became Subcontractor only. It would shock you the amount of jobs they had available that had nothing to do with product sales.
Great content Enes. Not sold on the thermal properties on this build, maybe ok for LA. Slick design but, 'Democratising architecture' is a bit steep...It's a pre-fab dude... what's next.. making wheels round again ? Buy an Airstream and drive it straight out of LA if you want to spend some money & live in a nice small space :) Happy 2024 everyone.
As many other commenters have pointed out, the tiny house itself could work out great and I like the idea but the price is out of this world. Either this tiny home is located in an area surrounded by homes that are super expensive so it naturally pushes the price of this tiny home to astronomical heights, or it is incredibly overpriced. From the looks of it though - these will mainly more than likely be used as guest houses on larger estates instead of a primary home. Great video as always!

what's wrong with having engineers from apple, spacex, tesla and ferrari? it means caliber engineer and designers capable to capture the middle class market. the question is, if it is true though; if it was indeed true and not just engineers and designers who were just short time university apprentice (school affiliate) for the summer.
Right, tesla is different, but cheaply manufacturered tbh
I guess we can all agree 350k is a ridiculous price for a tiny home. I'm praying people aren't stupid enough to buy this so it becomes a thing.

$56k … nice.

It's insane that's 350k for 40 square meters

The house looks nice (besides price) but I’m curious how this ages and how repairable it is if something goes wrong. Overall cool concept and idea.
The garage ceiling is very low.
You lost me when you had some rich Silicon Valley bro tell me his goal is affordable housing but charges $350k for under 500sq ft.

The big issue i see is security with this. I agree. I do not like the key fob system.
People who are brainwashed to buy Teslas that freeze in the winter and can't drive further than around 200 miles before you have to spend the night to charge it arent't the least bit concerned about common sense things like safety or locks on the doors... you watch, people in places like Los Angeles will be buying these hand over fist.

My new home comes with pre-fabricated walls, too. But I will get 36 cm of clay and not plastic.

@@SusanChristmas Energy efficiency = money. Of course, I open my windows in late spring to early autumn. But not in winter. And many houses shown by Enes have ACs which also cost money.

The only $350k homes you will find in that area would be tear downs. This is actually very affordable for California.
To live in this house, you'll even need room service.

As many other commenters have pointed out, the tiny house itself could work out great and I like the idea but the price is out of this world. Either this tiny home is located in an area surrounded by homes that are super expensive so it naturally pushes the price of this tiny home to astronomical heights, or it is incredibly overpriced.
