How to Convert Your PS3 from PS3HEN to CFW

- I've covered how to jailbreak a PS3 from stock firmware to obtain Custom Firmware (CFW) with the PS3 Toolset aka BG Toolset, however many PS3 owners with CFW compatible have been running PS3HEN and wanted to know how to migrate from PS3HEN to CFW. Although there might be some confusion and worry about starting on PS3HEN with HFW, reverting back to OFW, uninstalling PS3HEN, etc. this tutorial should hopefully ease those worries by showing the PS3HEN to CFW conversion process step-by-step.
In order to do all of this you MUST have a compatible PS3. All Fat/Phat models work! If you want to perform this on a Slim console, 20XX and 21XX models are all compatible. 25XX models that have a 3.56 or lower minimum firmware version will work, anything showing a higher minimum firmware will not. ANY PS3 MODEL HIGHER THAN 25XX WILL NOT WORK! This includes newer Slim (30XX) models and all Super Slim models.
If you have a CFW capable PS3 the first thing you should do is backup your console's NAND or NOR flash to a FAT32 formatted flash drive. This should be done on every install, just in case your system needs the flash restored at any point in the process. After verifying your flash dump is proper, you can download the required patch for your console and install it all directly within the browser! This process will download a specific file to your console and "patch" the console so it's ready for CFW. After verifying your PS3 has been patched successfully, you can simply reboot your console, take a 4.91 CFW of your choice, and install it directly through the XMB!
Although this tutorial was recorded on firmware 4.91, the jailbreak process with PS3 Toolset is the same on higher firmwares as long as all of the software needed has been updated. The only differences would be a firmware specific patch, which PS3 Toolset will download for you, and a different CFW matching your firmware version.

I got error it says error occurred during the update n' it keeps booting to the update reaches 50% n' goes back to the same problem
I downloaded CFW 4.91 BETA 1 successfully by following this tutorial but i noticed it has problems like when I connect to psn the games or apps give me an error “8001003A” when I launch them…. My questions are :
1 - I want to to upgrade from BETA 1 to BETA 6, can i do the same way on this video or do i need another way ?
2 - when i put my disk in the BD it gets stuck hallfway so do i need to donwload NO BD VERSION or NORMAL VERSION should be fine?
3 - and lastly from BETA 2 and above when you extract the file it doesn’t have MD5.txt should i be fine upgrading without comparing md5?

I have a ps3 super slim,but PS3 Hen seems a good option. I know I'll need to replace the 250hdd with a SATA 1tb SSD.

even if the system is clean (no webman or others) and activated for games, HEN crashes 1 out of 5 times or almost certainly after launching an application again. it's unstable especially in the new versions (4.89 or higher), the old versions however were much more stable (i use hen on 4.84)

I got no warnings or dangers when checking the flash, but I noticed that the ROS0 and ROS1 were still mismatched despite it saying it's ok, what should I do?

I gotta get my hands on a PS3 that's able to have CFW. I love my super slim it does most of what I want it to do as in a CFW but I think CFW is still superior overall for obvious reasons.
Definitely nice having a cool Super Slim running PS3HEN, but it can't a full CFW 🙂

So when I get a mismatch between res0 and res1, because I clearly have installed CFW on my PS3 many years ago and I just updated to OFW 4.91 with a new 500gb hard drive, then I should install that old CFW multiple times to get res0 and res1 back in sync before proceeding? It's the only warning with the dump checker.
Found out I can apply the same OFW 4.91 update again via the Settings > System Update > Update from USB and that got both ROS0 and ROS1 into the same state. Disco.
I covered exactly that in the video, but it seems like you applied the recommendation I had.

Hey, why is super slim and later versions of slim not compatible with cfw?
I would recommend researching it if you want to get a more granular approach on it, but from what I know in short it has to do with 3.55 signing keys.
That did not change until after 3.56, which is why consoles with a minimum firmware version higher than 3.56 cannot take a full custom firmware.

CFW can play games pretty problem free, no need to encrypt.
why not go straight to the point and install 4.91 cfw from usb? 2012b here

@@MrMario2011 I'm trying to play PS2 games but without success, I'm getting sad with this. I'm trying to do is: play PS2 games in PKG format on my PS3 slim with HEN 4.91. After downloading and installing the game I try to access it through homebrew, when opening the game the screen goes black and the console makes 3 beeps and turns off. I installed the webman, multiman and irisman applications but none of them detects these PKG games that I am installing. I do not know what else to do. If I install CFW 4.91 would it solve this problem? Or what could I do to be able to play these games while maintaining HFW?

Why would anyone install HEN on a PS3 that's capable of CFW in the first place?
Impatience waiting on the PS3 Toolset to be updated, or a new CFW, or they prefer PS3HEN.
What is the difference between HFW and CFW?
hfw is essentially ofw modified to allow ps3hen to be installed.
cfw is a largely CustomFirmWare which has benefits over hen such as being able to downgrade, overclock, use nobluetooth and nobluraydrive firmwares, play ps2 isos, and many other features.
If all you use your ps3 for is playing ps3 games, chances are you have no real need for cfw
