Wow.. You, sir, did an ENORMOUS amount of work! This is incredible, and you were explaining everything in such details!!! Thank you so much for your videos, I admire your patience, your willing to spend your time to show us how it's done! You rock!!!
falsem1nd Thanks for the nice comment. I appreciate your kind words. I make my videos the way I would want someone to make them for me if I was trying to learn how to do something.
Well thanks to your invaluable help, I changed both the front bearings on my 2006 Altima. Has 110,000 miles and was starting to growl at hiway speeds. Did the left yesterday and right today. I even went down to Harbor Freight and bought a front bearing press tool like you recommended. Worked great! I could have taken it down and had them press the bearings, but I hate to have someone do anything that I can do, cause I usually do it better. Thank you so much for taking the time to post the procedure!
I certainly appreciate this video. This is what working on your car REEAAALLLY looks like. There are many DIY videos around that try to "glamorize" the process with dance music and fast camera swipes. There's never any 'problems'. This new generation of mechanics are expected to believe in a 2 minute tutorial they are shown how to change the brake sysem, transmission, and add turbo charger to your car? No my friends, really working on your car includes rust, broken bolts, and having to use a little hammer persuasion. Keep up the good work, it's folks like you sharing your knowlege on the internet that really counts.
Best video I have seen that explained the removal and install of bearing for altima using right tools. I have the same tools and used them differently than you due to confusion in supplied instructions and broke the bolt. But this video made it simple to do the next time around. Thanks brother.
This by far is the most detailed front wheel bearing replacement video i have ever seen. more power to you sir and i just clicked, subscribed. keep making those "how to" videos. that's ton of help for me and saves us all awful lots of money. thank you sir.
I wish I had that kind of patients lol Great videos . Alot of knowledge, now to take my car to the shop lol I have not much tool or patients for this type of job so...... ya!
AWESOME,,, thanks very much for all your hard work .i am doing a bearing on my Renault master ....its been a nightmare until i found your videos just need to find someone with a bearing press or go and hire one ,thanks again HAPPY NEW YEAR
you are the man , thank you for all your time. I am doing this for a friend this coming up weekend on a 2006 Altima. I hope my project goes as smooth as yours. and I hope my Harbor Freight store has that press plate kit in stock.lol
+MustangResto. after taking the hub off. I noticed that the ball joint on the lower control arm is bad. I have called all around and nobody sells just a ball joint, they are trying to sell me the whole entire lower control arm which is expensive as hell. news people are not going to want to Fork out the money for that. was wondering if you ever ran into this problem or maybe they don't sell just the ball joint for 06 Nissan Altima
Sorry, but I don't know about the availability of ball joints separate from the control arm. If you can't find just a ball joint, maybe nobody sells it that way. Maybe somebody else reading this knows and can make a comment.
Great Video, most people only show videos of the rear bearing replacement which is a breeze since the hub and bearing assembly is one unit you purchase from the parts store. The front is a lot more involved.
I was concerned you would ruin the new bearing when you were pressing in the hub. You corrected yourself and put a smaller plate on the opposite side to counteract the spindle force on the inner part of the bearing.
In the future if you need a tool that you are only likely to use once check with the parts store where you buy the part. Many have a tool loaner program where you just put down a deposit and get it all back when you bring it back.
Thank you, boss! I'm gonna try this following your video. You had me laughing pretty good at different parts, "Nissan likes to torture people by makin' them like this." (snap rings)... Have a great day, bro!...
Boston Boston you only have to remove the snap ring in the front, just make sure to use the appropriate size disc from the bearing press that fits inside of the snap ring, so that way you don’t press the clip through along with the bearing.
Efficiency Tip : I used a medium sized ball joint pry fork with an opening of about 1-1/2 inches to very easily remove the hub bearing cap, with a medium hard hit between the hub and the bearing cap with a large ball peen hammer and it just popped off with out any cutting with a grinder wheel. So easy it was scary...
Bonnie E, rear wheel bearings are different. I've done them but didn't make a video. You remove the entire bearing assembly and replace it. There is no disassembly of the rear wheel bearings. You buy the whole bearing/hub/wheel studs as a single assembly. Just search for a picture of the rear wheel bearings and there are lots of videos. It's a much easier job.
MustangResto MustangResto lord Jesus amen just watched the 3 parts and boy it takes some Big Nuts And bolts to do this Thank you sir u Rock Great great videos!!
Thanks for making a great set of videos! I need to do this to my 06 Altima, and I think the process should be the same.. This will be my first time taking on this task. Do you have any tips that didn't make the video? Any extra advice is greatly appreciated!
Thanks for making this video. It's nice to see an alternative to a big press. How often do you do bearings to justify the $100 kit though? I'm thinking of just having my local shop do them as they're only going to charge me $5 each to press out the old and press in the new. Oh and what impact do you have? Just wondering why you had to use the breaker bar first.
If your local shop will press in and out the bearings for $5 each is that $20 total or $10 total? Not that it really matters. The reason I bought the press kit is that I do lots of work on all of my cars, so I figured I could get some more use out of it. You can also do it on your own schedule. But $5 is cheap, so I see your point. I have a 1/2 inch drive, 8 amp craftsman electric impact gun that can reach over 300 ft. lbs of torque. I used the breaker bar first because I read some comments about breaking the bolt in the press kit by using an impact gun on it.
MustangResto Thanks for getting back so fast. I was debating on this kit until I got that super low quote. I'm guessing it would be $10 total since I'm only doing the front two. I have just the two vehicles so bearings aren't something I'd do THAT often. Hopefully. I caught a glimpse of that impact but I wasn't sure what exactly you have. Mine is the Harbor Freight battery one. It supposedly does 330lb-ft so I thought maybe it was an issue of inadequate power.
I have yhe same car and what not... my problem is not the berring but rather the engine.... sized up the engine.... planning on a engine pull my self so i was wondering what to do with axil. If like to know how to pull it out of the transmission but not sure whete to start.... big question is can i pull the engine up and axil out rather than pull them out from the wheel hub. The groove on the rings in your kit i belive are to prevent them from coneing inward when you tighten the bolt.... similar to the cross walls on an I-beam to prevent and bend.
These videos are really helpful.... However I was told that my Rear Wheel Bearings are bad. I have a 2003 Nissan Altima SL 2.5 ltr. How do i know if I need the Hub Assembly or just the Bearing?
The REAR bearing assembly is all one unit including the hub already assembled onto the bearing so you only buy the whole assembly and to replace a rear bearing you only have to undo 4 bolts after you remove the brake rotor. It's infinitely more simple and easier than doing a front wheel bearing replacement. Look it up on RockAuto: www.rockauto.com/en/moreinfo.php?pk=9482296&cc=1417294&jsn=423
It sounds like you are not a professional mechanic. If this person had to take their car to a mechanic what would he charge? You could charge half plus parts and they would save money.
+Craig Davis I've watched other videos and that's basically how everybody does it. You have to get the hub out but you can't use the press tool to remove it. if you had a hydraulic shop press you could do it that way instead of hitting the socket with a mallet.
Update number 10.... The bolt stripped out on the first kit I got from harbor freight. They gave me a new kit and $25 refund....wow. The bearing was coming out great nice and even and the threads on the bolt gave way. I think it is a different brand than yours. Mine is Pittsburg something brand
Nice videos. I have a 2002 Altima and have replaced the right side bearing twice now, within a year, and it seems I may be doing it again. Buddy of mine and I have done it in his garage as he has all the tools. The new bearing is vibrating at about 40 mph and makes grinding noises when turning sharply. Not sure if we damaged it or what, or it could be one of the other bearings. Did you use an OEM bearing or an aftermarket one? My two I got at Autozone. The first one was the cheap one and the second one was more money.
Boss I have 2005 Nissan Altima 2.5 can I know the specification number both bearing Please? it is same bearing size with Nissan Altima 2005? I am planning to schedule the replacement my front wheel bearing because it is noisy already. Thanks
+BigDaddy Natt I got it from Harbor Freight. It's called a front wheel bearing adapter, Pittsburgh Automotive - Item#66829. The bolt is about 7 or 8 inches long.
Thank you sir I went ahead and ordered what I think is the same thing off of eBay and got it for $56. So hope it,s the same it just looked like the bolt was smaller then yours thanks again Sir.
Well I went and bought the tools from harbor freight. They didn't have that red box and I paid $120 for mine. Would it be wrong to return it when I'm done? Really though I'm poor lol. Thanks for the video yet again sir.

CSM. Rivera Thanks for the compliments and we all make mistakes, but at least we are trying and that's what counts.

thanks for watching, subscribing and sending a comment. I appreciate the feedback.
What you taught me is to buy the whole knucke assy. Its close to the same price as the bearing + the tools required to do the job manually.
Yes, it's a lot easier to do it that way.
I wish I had that kind of patients lol

Glad I could help. Enjoy the silence of a working bearing.

I am not sure about an '06 Altima, but the whole control arm does have to be replaced on a 2002 Sentra. My repair manual specifically states this.
Great Video, most people only show videos of the rear bearing replacement which is a breeze since the hub and bearing assembly is one unit you purchase from the parts store. The front is a lot more involved.
Thanks, yes it is a lot more work to do the front wheel bearing than the rear wheel.
Thank you for great video, I like the way you did!
I'll be doing this soon on a Sentra. Thanks so much for the tutorial!! I really appreciate it.
+Albertthegreat2010
Good luck. Hope it goes smoothly.
Thanks a lot MustangResto. Great tutorial you did there. Really helpfull! Tumbs up!
I was concerned you would ruin the new bearing when you were pressing in the hub. You corrected yourself and put a smaller plate on the opposite side to counteract the spindle force on the inner part of the bearing.
U explained in GOOD DETAILS ,THANK U
You are welcome.
Yep I did more resear h and you're correct sir...thats how everyone does it...thank you. I got bearings out just need a press to get back in
In the future if you need a tool that you are only likely to use once check with the parts store where you buy the part. Many have a tool loaner program where you just put down a deposit and get it all back when you bring it back.
Good video...….you make it look so simple.
Thanks for commenting. It always looks easier on video. If you have the time to spare, you can do it yourself.
Thank you, boss! I'm gonna try this following your video.
You had me laughing pretty good at different parts, "Nissan likes to torture people by makin' them like this." (snap rings)...
Have a great day, bro!...
Good luck.
Using that style hub puller you could have left the knuckle on the car and pulled the Hub out without taking all that stuff apart.
dkfbaby1
Definitely correct on that but try removing the snap ring with it on the vehicle it can be almost impossible
Boston Boston you only have to remove the snap ring in the front, just make sure to use the appropriate size disc from the bearing press that fits inside of the snap ring, so that way you don’t press the clip through along with the bearing.
MustangResto lord Jesus amen just watched the 3 parts and boy it takes some Big Nuts And bolts to do this Thank you sir u Rock Great great videos!!

Thanks for the clear demonstration.
You're welcome and thanks for watching.
Thanks for the videos. I was able to do mine with your help. Took some video as well and posted to my channel.

Hey, I'll check it out.

good tut. thanks

Nothing much extra to say. Get everything you need, parts and tools, before you start.

I can't seem to find a press like the one you used around here to rent
+Craig Davis
i bought the press at Harbor Freight for about $100.
What is the part # of that Front Wheel Hub Drive Bearing Removal Install Service Tool Kit.
Harbor Freight #63260, it's called Wheel Bearing Adapters.
I don't know how much should I charge for a job like this? so one asked me to do for them and I saw your video now I'm confident!
It sounds like you are not a professional mechanic. If this person had to take their car to a mechanic what would he charge? You could charge half plus parts and they would save money.
+MustangResto ok thanks
Was there not a better way to get the first part apart when you used the socket to rip the bearing in half? Seems like there should be an easier way.

You could probably sell the press kit when you are done.
The FSM states to NOT use grease on the outside of the bearing.
what kind of grease do u use?
it's wheel bearing grease. Any auto parts store has it.
Such a tedious process. Man, definitely something I can't just do on my own since I don't have all the necessary tools.
Auto Zone or O'Rieleys rent them for free

Use Timken bearings
Boss I have 2005 Nissan Altima 2.5 can I know the specification number both bearing Please? it is same bearing size with Nissan Altima 2005? I am planning to schedule the replacement my front wheel bearing because it is noisy already. Thanks
Just go to an auto parts store and they can give you the correct part numbers.
hey boss can you tell me the name and # of your press kit and the length of the bolt in that kit Thanks
+BigDaddy Natt

always ... always... ALWAYS check for online discount for Harbor Freight and you will find 20 or 25%
I appreciate the video. I can do some mechanical work but this looks like it's too much of a pain in the ass so I'm just taking it to a mechanic.
sure wish you could fix my front wheel bearing
Marquise, you can do it. Watch parts 1 and 2 to see how to do the whole job.
Wow I owe Fire Stone out the ass for something I could of done myself at home. I feel used😢
dont every use a impact gun on wheel bearings that is not good for them
