How to Remove a Metal Chimney and Repair the Roof

- Our new, 40-year-old house had an old metal chimney that was once connected to an wood stove in the living room. The pipe stub that protruded through the ceiling was covered with a makeshift cardboard cap painted to match the walls. Having no interest in installing an inefficient, space-consuming stinky wood stove, Diane and I decided that the old chimney had to go. The contractor we had hired to do some remodeling work said he did not do roofing, and recommended Antique Roofing for this project. To reduce the cost, I was comfortable with repairing the hole in the ceiling myself after the chimney was removed and the roof repaired. In a second video, I will show you the process I used for patching the hole, applying heavy knockdown texture, and painting the repaired area matching the color of the surrounding ceiling paint. I hope that you find this video both entertaining and of some value for your chimney removal project.
Not really "how to remove" more "recording two contractors remove"
Need a camera on the roof to get a view of what is actually being done.
The audio during fast forward sections was so amusing-- glad you left that in!
Thanks! Sometimes it can be annoying though.
Thank You🌸
I have only just subscribed and watched 5 or 6 videos. Seems like you’ve spent a lot on that house already!!
Thank you for your comment! Yes, we’ve spent our initial budget to pay for essential and aesthetic improvements to meet our desires for our retirement home in Sequim Washington. But, we are now ready to launch home improvement projects that will take out retirement home to the next level!
Randall Wingett that is awesome news. My family and I are looking into moving to the sequim area. What area are you in?
Nothing like using your leg as a saw horse. 6:23! 😂😂😂
Yes, its a clown move.there is no reason to do it this way other than laziness. About the most dangerous way you can use a saw. Doesn't matter how good this guy thinks he is. It only takes a single mistake..just one time out of a thousand. Really dumb.
Hi there... wondering how long it took the roofing guys to do their job? and also why are you avoiding the cost question? LOL Its a pretty important question? :)
Hi, I was wondering the cost of a project like this, also are any building permits required?
bruh.
@@rekostarr7149 wtf kind of answer is that
getting a solar tube installed in my area costs $1500ish which is this same process in reverse, actually a bit easier even. I would estimate a $2000 labor bill. I highly doubt that building permits are required for removal, but definitely for the initial installation. Check with your city's building department - just call and ask!
DIY? Maybe $25-30. Hire a crew of 2 guys to work on it and make fun if how your house is built? Maybe $525-600. Then they sell that double wall stainless pipe and chimney cap on craigslist rather than give it to Habitat for Humanity.
Great Job!🥇👍
The camera man is scared of heights
I have the exact same thing at my house and was wondering how much was this to get removed and fixed or an estimate please ?
800$
@@mickgrammifications9293 is that including the indoor ceiling repair?
@@jade8568_VR no ma'am
@@jade8568_VR I see your curious on the price. I think it all depends on if your planning to do the job yourself or hire someone. Doing it yourself will be fairly cheap hiring someone will be a lot I would assume. I have been remodeling my has for the past couple years and do all my own work because I don't like being ripped off for basic jobs
I wonder if they could have just used the opening to install an attic vent or fan or even a solar tube light instead rather than having to close it up and re-shingle it like that?
Your not showing the process of removing the shingles ?
Hard to tell what the heck you were doing. I guess we know it can be done though, thanks.
What is the cost of this?
do it yourself and it's almost free. though not the lightest job haha.
Basically, filming two guys working on a roof. Not showing much of what they are doing!
How to hire.a contractor? Hehe
how much did you pay to have this removed? if I donate it to a charity will they remove it for me?
Call a charity...like Habitat for Humanity
I donate my garbage to charity they come every Friday and pick it up.
We in
Could have done with out the bug carcases and where are your Gloves ?
I can't watch anymore.
Shows nothing
This isn't a how to video in all honesty. No instructions, and you're just filming contractors doing the work. After watching this I have no new information about how to do what was in the video
Correct! This is not a DIY video. This is a documentary video showing how a professional roofer did this job. Thank you for your comment and for visiting my channel!
@@randallwingett Then you have an extremely misleading title, my friend.
Exactly. This isn't even a 'documentary' of the job, we cannot see what roofers are doing nor do we hear any explanation. The video from the ground shows absolutely nothing of any utility. Pointless.
@@randallwingett the video was fine. I learned how to shingle already so this was helpful just to see the general steps. thanks a lot!
