  • In this video, I diagnose why my 1978 Triumph Spitfire is running rich. Ending up putting a pair of idle jets size 45 into my weber 38dgas carb. Still some more fine tuning to do but it seems much better now!

Thanks for sharing your learning. Currently trying to get a DGAS 38 set up and idling properly. Bought the carb used off ebay. Gone the other way with my idling jets, found out they were 45s, and just ordered some 52s, should suit my 3.3 litre a bit better

Great job the Weber’s are a pain in the butt. But great approach in trying to set it up correctly. I think your probably pretty close in getting it spot on

I gotta do this on my Datsun 720. Bought it at a junkyard with the same carb on it.

Using what you already have sounds good to me. I really enjoy all the troubleshooting you are doing. That looks like a fun challenge. From this video, you've shown me what value the original sidedraft carburettors and manifold may have had. Those big, long runners on your downdraft intake manifold setup can probably increase the amount of torque you may get from your engine at the possible expense of some tuneability and smoothness. I wonder if... with all the twists and turns of the manifold... there may be some flow separation going on that makes this setup tricky to tune. How is your part throttle response when driving? Do you like the result? I would say the proof is in the driving. If YOU like it, then continue to go with this. I was watching a video the other day about the Solex 4-barrel downdraft carb on a Rolls-Royce V8. That was so different to the twin SU HD8 carbs installed on the ram's horn style manifold they used on earlier V8s. This is a fascinating subject, and I hope to see more about it on your channel. Safe journeys to you!

The weber 32/36 carb is known for having a sorta flat spot when you are transitioning from idle to giving it gas. The Weber 38 was intended to resolve that issue, but on a small engine like this, it’s a very tricky game of how rich do you want it to to run lol

@@bluesxt OH! OH! I know! If it's so rich, you also need more air. Why not a supercharger or turbocharger? Just kidding...lol!!!

Nice vid.Do you have the rubber o-rings for the idle jet holders?

I reused the ones that are on the carb, as they are still fairly new
