Pro-tip #1 - season with pepper after the steak is cooked, not before. Fresh cracked pepper burns nearly instantly in a searing hot pan, imparting a burnt off-flavor to the meat that you won't get in a high end steakhouse. Pro-tip #2 - smash the garlic to let the aromatics out, but leave the skin on to prevent burning in the hot pan.
I got the A5 wagyu from Costco. Prepared it, and it was absolutely delicious. HOWEVER, I think I may be the first person ever to say, I prefer regular usda prime steaks. After less than half the steak, I was done! Waaaaayyy too rich and fatty. If you're going to eat it, I recommend having no more than 2 or 3 little pieces at a time.
WOW as a meat lover and someone who consider myself as a steak expert u did those steak right. I truthfully don’t think u could’ve cook them in any other way to make them better. Thanks for a great video.
@@FullmoonEffects89 disagree I would only use salt and light pepper on a5 wagyu anything and do be honest I’d even just salt and pepper the American wagyu as well
I'd say the one thing you have to make sure of is that if you season it WITH SALT ahead of time, make sure you pat the steak dry with a paper towel right before searing and maybe salt it again. When you season the steak with salt ahead of time, it pulls liquid out of the steak and will make it hard to sear if you don't make sure to pat it dry. hope that helps!
Hahaha if you look through the comments, you're one of the only ones who say that I did a good job on the cooking! Thank you for watching 🙏🏼 I always appreciate the support and i hope you get to do a wagyu taste test of your own soon!
Personally i like the Snake River Farm American Wagyu. I recommend slow smoking with a reverse sear. A5 is definitely a try once stake unless you like to drool from all the marbling. But to each their own.
Great vid! (First timer here.) I was smiling throughout...especially when you both tasted it. Question: Do you note the exact amounts of time (for each cooking steps) and the temps?
Thank you! No, I don’t have cook times since it depends so much on the thickness and size of the meat. You want a high heat and you can use a meat thermometer if you want to be exact! Hope that helps!
Great video, but one suggestion is to please turn your background music way down. It really interferes with my hearing of your most important info! Thank you for your channel. Blessings, JMP 😊
Seeing her put the garlic and butter and stuff with the American Wagyu was OK but once she put that stuff in with the A5 Wagyu I nearly threw my phone into a fucking wall, Why in the hell would you think that it is OK to taint the flavor of a piece of Wagyu that is that beautiful
I'm no beef expert but i think your comparisons should be with the same cut of meat in otherwords a prime rib cut of American to a prime rib cut of Japanese. Not a New York cut compared to a Rib Eye Cut.
Yes, I get that! We just got what they had though...maybe next time we want to drop that kind of $$ we'll do identical cuts haha! It still gave us an idea of the differences though. Thanks for watching 👍🏽
you know, it's really whatever YOU like. To me, it was not wasted at all because it was freaking delicious, but for you, next time you buy A5 go for it with just salt! The reason I used oil was to conduct the heat faster since the cut was so thin and I didn't want to overcook. All personal preference. Anyways, thanks for watching 👍🏽
Its hard to justify paying $99 per lb when the majority of the A5 is fat. I bought an A5 ribeye when i first started using a smoker and bought my kid a Snake River Farms wagyu ribeye only because my kid didn’t like all the fat. Personally I like the Snake River wagyu better and it was only $28 per lb.
Visually I liked the American one better. Never had Wagyu but it’s just too rich for me. Steak is a luxury as it is. At least when you’re a family of six.
If you try either , split it with somebody else. The flavor isnt 150$ more than a 30$ steak. You are paying for texture. The A5 is so buttery, after a few bites it coats your mouth and gets weird
Haha Thank you so much! The american wagyu is good....but the japanese is mind blowing! I definitely recommend trying it sometime and thank you so much for watching and supporting us 😊
American wagyu is made up of saturated fat where as Japanese wagyu is made up of unsaturated fat creating that melt in your mouth feeling because unsaturated fat has less bite and a lower melting point. American wagyu will just never be the same because the great thing about Japanese Wagyu isn’t just because it has a lot of fat but because the fat itself is different than any other cattle
Glad I found something finally I have heard as well about america only having 49 percent wagyu and it's no we're near actual real Japan A5 wagyu so is these america A5 wagyu even worth buying because if I'm spending over a 100 Dollars for a steak it better be the real A5 Japan wagyu not these bs america wagyu knock offs so anyone know where the real A5 Japan wagyu can be bought and shipped to America ?????
Thanks for watching! Honestly, I think go for the Japanese wagyu and save your money on the American. Instead just buy a beautiful Prime ribeye or something and wait til you can get the A5!

Costco gets them in sometimes as well. Normally about $89-99.00 a steak (99.00 per lb.) at least that what it costs in Oklahoma.

The closest I've gotten is some American Wagyu, and it's some of the best meat I've eaten so far, but I'm super interested in trying the Japanese A5.
Normal olive oil works great for steaks. Extra virgin olive oil is the one that burns easily.
