Definitely in the top 5 most informative and comprehensive DIY mod guides I’ve ever seen. And it’s so mid-2000s to boot. Awesome job man I hope you found success in wherever you ended up since this
You're welcome. It's definitely a more advanced install but at least you know what to expect. If you have rust set aside some more time and patience. Good luck!
Just posting another comment. I should add that when you reinstall the O2 sensors you should use copper grease on the threads to keep it from rusting too hard in place and to help prevent any (albeit tiny) exhaust leaks. It could throw off your O2 readings.
I raised my car only in the front left and front right with jack. Held up by 2 jack stands. Just enough room to work I'm 160lbs though. Bolts were hard as shit to take off. But after they came off your good and install of new berk cats are easy. I had help From my dad when it came to getting stock cats loose from engine bay view. No CEL check engine light so that's great. Car revs a lot happier and you can notice the difference in throttle response at low revs and top end. Great product. 03 350
lol. They make the best teachers because they pay attention to details. Every little one. :) I have to figure out which cats would be best for my motor dyne exhaust now.
I love my BERK HFC's. I'm glad I chose them my first time around, because a lot of things on my car I'm revamping due to not doing enough research on what I wanted before I did it lol. The Berk HFC's though I got right the first time.
+topgun779 I hear you on that. I had to return a set of HFCs from a well-known Nissan brand. Berk just had a better design and more thought put into the product. Live and learn! That's the story of modding.
I actually need to replace that T bone bracket mount on on my 2010 FX35... its rusty and makes a rattling noise... luckily, that part is not expensive and i can do it myself. 0:45 thanks for this video!
Awesome Video man!! even now in 2020. I'm thinking about getting these Berk Hi-flo cats for my 08 Infiniti g37, along with new Y-pipes and new exhaust system. I had to replace one of my o2 sensors recently, so I'll make sure to mention to my mechanic Not to use an impact drill, which I hope he already knows how to do that. Thanks again for the upload! 👍🏽
Yeah, the hp gains were surprising. In some ways the gritty, race-car like sound is fun. The only real problem I have is the Z finds a lot of excuses to rattle or buzz. A loose panel in the trunk, some stones stuck in the heat shields, etc. No matter which exhaust combo the VQs are just exotic :)
haha, you make this look easy. I did this and the bolts were so tight on the cat that my swivel joint and two extensions were cracked trying to remove the bolts. Also, the passenger side does not need the intake removed to break all the bolts loose...however it is impossible to remove the drivers side top bolts without going in from the top of the engine.
Please reply! (important question) In 2021, preparing to do this on VQ37 Q50. I see that the stud coming out of the header manifold (of the three flange holes) are located at the top of the flange on the side facing the engine. What doesn't seem clear in this video is whether or not you had another person grip the bolt head or nut on the opposite side from which you were loosening with your ratchet. Wouldn't it be true that in order to loosen one side, you need to grip the other? Your video makes it out as if you did this single handedly, simply loosening the bolt head from one side of the flange, making it come loose. I just don't see how this is possible without another helper first securing the nut (or bolt head) on the other side before you can loosen and remove the bolt (or nut). I will likely be doing this solo, so clarification on this particular aspect of this install would be more than helpful, infact, imperative.. 🙏
Good god. I am so happy I found this video. Nissan quoted me at $1200 and if those bolts come off as easy as you made it look I may be able to do this.
In a lot of this video you're watching a Nissan technician help me out and I hope your install goes just as smoothly now that you've seen it done. I did have the benefit of a lower mileage car at the time. If you live in an area that experiences a lot of rust be careful about bolts breaking, etc. If you have someone to lend a hand along with those tools like the universal joint and the crazy-long extensions it is certainly doable. Any other questions just reply here or message me.
I freakin owe you dude. I had to do my driver side due to a code of the o2 sensor. My car is a 2004 g35 coupe. The exhaust is identical to this with a few exceptions. For one mine was bolts and studs. So even when you removed the bolts you still had the studs in there so in order to get it off I had to pry it off. Also, my bolts were facing different directions from yours in the vid. Either way thank you so much.
@yos3z if you view the Berk Tech instructions I think it mentions that is should be a little easier (and no intake removal required) for the earlier models. Double check on their site though!
Good info. But I still looking for video of how to replace exhaust manifolds on G35 coupe also. If anyone have the links or anything, please lets me know. Thanks so much!!
I have a 2005 350z but I believe the guy i bought it of straight piped it, it sounds fookin brutal and when i let go of the gas it back fired like, pops but sounds awesome, i want to keep the performance but also want to pass the emissions test, so would Berk HFC guarantee a pass. I have been told as long as the car has been warmed up it will pass. Any suggestions, btw I'm from the UK and our govt is crazy about emissions lol
Thanks for the question - I cannot personally guarantee it will pass emissions where you live though. Feel free to reach out to Berk HFC directly and they can give a better answer. I hope it works out well for you!
And some HP increase too might I add! Haha, congratulations on the new mod. From the other videos of the Nismo exhaust and Berk HFC combo, it seems like there is a slight "metallic" rasp present though.. That's what's keeping me away from doing this combo. I owned the Nismo exhaust too but switched to a GReddy TI-C single.
I also have Berks test pipes except it's non resonated. using the gasket flanges given they leak! how do you suppose i fix this? I know that there is a front and back on the gaskets but the gasket itself looks very cheap.
I assume more than half of the people who watched this video and actually thinking of doing this job probably do not have a hoist at home. And this makes so much difficult to get those 3 upper bolts out especially if your car's been driven over winter... My advise is to get some PB blaster and spray it on the rusted bolts/nuts before doing any work.
~Good video, well done on that mate. Should have watched it before I got dirty with mine, only thing is the older the car the harder to get those fecky bolts off!
@mirc225 Sorry I haven't checked comments in a while. I am sure you figured something else out by now but you would do one of three things. Get an original one for your car (dealer or parts place), find one that is similar at a parts place, or use some kind of exhaust gasket maker (along the lines of RTV silicone but hi-temp)
Hey I plan on doing this, thus Saturday be cause both of my gaskets are finished from the headers to the cats. I wanted to know what size are the bolts from uotop the ones you needed the extention for.
hi mate u have anything idea about Audi A1 Sportback I try look for new intake and New Exhaust and etc but I cant find anything I think A1 sportback cant upgrades ?
nice video. could someone tell me how to rematch the 2 4 pin plugs. I have one come off and I'm confused which color wire goes where. it is on the passenger side, and the white wire has black white and grey wires, the connector that goes into it has red, pink, black, and grey...thanks!
I'm so confused with he car. Is 350z or 370z? The engine cover says v 6 3.5 but it has dual air intake. And the rear end of the car is definitely 350z.
Great vid mna you make it seem so easy but i cant get under the car with just jacks lol its very unconftorable when i install my exhuast just one question. are those high flow cats street legal inCalifornia? cause i want them lol!
Very good video, how much louder than the original cats these Berks are? Are they as loud as test pipes? I'd like to get these but I don't wanna wake up everybody in my neighborhood lol
I installed invidia HFCs on my VQ35hr FX35. They sound great and all but they are sort of stinky. Did you get that with yours as well? Or if my car is running rich (not tuned BTW) could that be adding to the smell?
I don't remember a bad smell. It could be some type of coating or oil burning off the new parts. If it persists I would have it checked out - or look for soot to see if it is running too rich.
It just smells like exhaust... like a classic car... Not as bad as test pipes for example, but it is easy to tell that its not OEM... Have you had that as well?
Now that I go over my notes, one of the reasons I went with Berk was because of the substrate, which they claim flows well but doesn't have that "test pipe smell." Certain HFCs will smell more than others depending on the internals of the cats.
+AutoHowTV Ah I see. I also may be running rich as I get excessive backfire and I have Stillen Gen 3 intakes as well. I guess I'll just deal with them. Thanks!
Pulled my stock exhaust off (08 350z) last night and I just wanna let everyone know... You WILL need to use PB when removing the upper bolts on cats. Took an extra 2 hours just to remove the fully system. Today is the TD Borla install with Motordyne ART pipes!
CAN SOMEONE HELP ME? WHAT IS THE NAME OF THE OTHER PART THAT FOLLOWS UP FROM THE CATS TO THE RESONATOR, YOU CAN SEE THEM IN THE TOP RIGHT CORNER WITH LIVE A WOVEN TEXTURE AT 1:49 !!!!!
The O2 sensor sockets are designed to help avoid the check engine light (CEL) issues you may see with others. I did not have any issues. It's still possible but these seem to be the best bet to avoid any CEL. See this thread for similar results: www.the370z.com/intake-exhaust/11152-anyone-been-thrown-cel-berk-hfcs.html
My catalytic converter on the passenger side does not blow gas . I just had it changed out . What could possibly be the issue ? When I revv up the engine by pressing the gas pedal I could hear a loud vacuum sound in the front of the car on the drivers side of the engine . Do anyone know what the issue could be ?
Ipoohbaby2 nigga check your egr pressure sensor/hoses im having same probems except my cat keeps frying those hoses even though I just replaced with a new egr pressure sensor, so im having the opposite problem as you
Ipoohbaby2 There could be a situation where the car is out of tune or running too rich. An air leak after the air sensor could do that resulting in too much fuel clogging the catalytic converter. Oil leak is another possibility but the vacuum leak is most likely part of the problem...any updates?
+aidan I am more familiar with the 350 and 370 setups but it should be a similar install for the G35. For CA emissions you would need to check with whichever company you decided to go with. They should also have their own written instructions which you can compare to this video to get a sense for any small differences.
Am I missing something here? There is no way 1 guy could do this. If there is a bolt / nut and you have to use a extensions in the engine bay to break loose the bolt.....who is holding the nut. Same goes for installing. I am curious because I am looking to do this to my G.

Just an FYI the wrench size needed for O2 sensors is a 22mm. Your welcome lol
Save my day
Love you already boiiii
Very detailed best cat install video for G's Ive seen so far
you are an absolute hero for posting this. every last detail has been covered and I'm going to tackle installing hfc's in a few days
You're welcome. It's definitely a more advanced install but at least you know what to expect. If you have rust set aside some more time and patience. Good luck!

lol. They make the best teachers because they pay attention to details. Every little one. :) I have to figure out which cats would be best for my motor dyne exhaust now.
awesome, ill be using this vid when i instal my berk test pipes which should be here any day now!
Killer instructional, just forgot to mention socket sizes, very very detailed.
Really easy to view and understand. Very professional. Thanks for the great vid

PB Blaster is a savior...just keep it away from the plastic pieces and it will make everything a lot easier.
I actually need to replace that T bone bracket mount on on my 2010 FX35... its rusty and makes a rattling noise... luckily, that part is not expensive and i can do it myself. 0:45 thanks for this video!

Amazing!!!
Amazing video, extremely detailed. Please keep it up!!
HEADERS!! HEADERS DO THE HEADERS PLEASE!!!!
very good video and very informative this is how all how to videos should be
sounds perfect
thank you...been waiting for this video for ever XD
awesome vid
sounds amazing!
Great video
very clean job
Thank uu for this
great video now i feel like i can do this myself all i need is the tools
When you're installing the driver side cat, the diagram in the corner is showing that you're working on the passenger side cat.
nice video thank you much, very well put together.
Makes it look so easy, on a car without any rusted bolts lol
Hollywood magic! PB Blaster is magic too when you do have to deal with the rust :)
Thanks for posting!!!
You're welcome!
At 3:22 do you happen to know if that plate above the cats are removable or does it need to be trim?
THANKS FOR THE VID

So do I have to re bolt the demon bolt with the new cats ?
@mapko15 Thanks man. I try to cover all the bases!
Great video!

Hi, what’s the socket size for O2 sensors? 18mm or 22mm ?
So what's all about ? Is it just because of a sound, or you got some HP over ?
Very nice video, love the way you have it set up. Could you do a header install video on a 350z/370z ? That would be awesome!
MatthieuAmherst Thanks for watching. Unfortunately, I do not have this Z anymore but if I get another opportunity to film a header install I will.
~Good video, well done on that mate. Should have watched it before I got dirty with mine, only thing is the older the car the harder to get those fecky bolts off!
lol@ ridiculous collection of extensions. Great video. This was very informative and is how ALL Auto How To videos should be.

Sorry I missed your comment before your install. I hope it went smoothly!
wow nice no rust. A bit different than mine Z :)
With this new cats the check engine light still off or comes on after the installation thanks
@CltfinestMR2 where's my cut???? haha just kidding. Glad you could apply the video!
hi mate u have anything idea about Audi A1 Sportback I try look for new intake and New Exhaust and etc but I cant find anything I think A1 sportback cant upgrades ?

Aye bro do you know if the same process applies to 06 Infiniti g35 coupe
Any check engine lights?
Car sounds too damn good. So that was nismo exhaust and highflow cats only, y pipe was stock correct?
i love how it sounds when returning back to idle 9:01 so changing the cat to a high flow cat will give this sound to my car exaust?
Are these cats 50 state or even 49 state legal..? Thanks; would love to throw these on my 350 but....I live in California.
Nice Vid. Thanks!
I'm so confused with he car. Is 350z or 370z? The engine cover says v 6 3.5 but it has dual air intake. And the rear end of the car is definitely 350z.
+LeAsianBoy Last few years of the 350 had a dual intake setup similar to the 370s.
+LeAsianBoy The last few years of the 350Z had the HR motor, which was a dual intake like the 370Z.
the engine changed from a de engine to an hr engine...hr has dual intake.
How many inches is the diameter of the in & out for the OEM G37 cat converter?
Please reply
I believe it's 2.25 for Sedans, 2.5 for Coupes
courtking01 Thanks for the info.
PB blaster and driving car near redline for 3 hrs will loosen those buggers 😉
Great vid mna you make it seem so easy but i cant get under the car with just jacks lol its very unconftorable when i install my exhuast just one question. are those high flow cats street legal inCalifornia? cause i want them lol!
im sorry for the stuoid question since i dont know alot about these cats, are the high flow cats street liggle? in ca.
Does the Z require a tune with just the cat install to avoid running dangerously lean while driving?
Very good video, how much louder than the original cats these Berks are? Are they as loud as test pipes? I'd like to get these but I don't wanna wake up everybody in my neighborhood lol

i had a ton of problems removing the O2 sensors.. it seemed like they just werent removable..
Do you have to remove the intake for a g35 coupe 2004?
wow fucking bad ass vid! thanx!
@13slot28 Yep, Nismo catback was on there at the time.
Pulled my stock exhaust off (08 350z) last night and I just wanna let everyone know... You WILL need to use PB when removing the upper bolts on cats. Took an extra 2 hours just to remove the fully system. Today is the TD Borla install with Motordyne ART pipes!
Even with breaker bar or Impact?
CAN SOMEONE HELP ME? WHAT IS THE NAME OF THE OTHER PART THAT FOLLOWS UP FROM THE CATS TO THE RESONATOR, YOU CAN SEE THEM IN THE TOP RIGHT CORNER WITH LIVE A WOVEN TEXTURE AT 1:49 !!!!!
I gotta do this soon. I doubt my bolts will fall off as easy. Anyone have any methods for pre soaking stubborn bolts
whats better, hfc or test pipes and how?
When do u think u are going to put out some new videos??
answer me this...i get this berk HFC i will not get the check engine light???r any lights on dashboard??? i own 370z ...thanks !
The O2 sensor sockets are designed to help avoid the check engine light (CEL) issues you may see with others. I did not have any issues. It's still possible but these seem to be the best bet to avoid any CEL.

AutoHowTV ..Thanks for the reply !
Nismo muffler?????
The bolt on that I noticed the most amount of power when I had a 350z was my Berk HFC's. The power difference is noticeable even without a tune.
The test pipe too my friend. Berk especially and I didnt even get a tune either but I can honestly say I feel it
How long did it take you to do this?
are the new cats mentioned actually cats or just empty test pipes?
They have a mesh and are actually catalytic converters.
Are these HFC's equivalent to Test pipes? Do these two go installed in the same place?
Yes they are
Both 370z, G37are 3.7 v6 and 350z and G35 have the 3.5 v6
As long as they are the HR motors with dual intakes these install instructions should apply. Did you spot a typo or mistake in the video?
great video!, i still cant get to the bolt from the engine bay on the drivers side >:(
My catalytic converter on the passenger side does not blow gas .
Oil leak is another possibility but the vacuum leak is most likely part of the problem...any updates?
would this work on a g35 coupe and is it CA emissions certified
+aidan I am more familiar with the 350 and 370 setups but it should be a similar install for the G35. For CA emissions you would need to check with whichever company you decided to go with. They should also have their own written instructions which you can compare to this video to get a sense for any small differences.
What's the point of the cats support brackets couldn't you just leave them off
I installed my kinetix s HFCs and they didn't come with a bracket spot. pulled the bracket off no problem
@allsystemsup haha thanks
What size are the bolts holding the cat?
Help would be much apreciated
Am I missing something here? There is no way 1 guy could do this.
If there is a bolt / nut and you have to use a extensions in the engine bay to break loose the bolt.....who is holding the nut.
Same goes for installing.
I am curious because I am looking to do this to my G.
Good question. At 2:54 you'll see that the OEM cats have studs built in so you don't need to hold anything on the other side to break them from engine bay. At 6:25 you'll see that installing the new ones does require two wrenches but can be done from under car at that point. The extensions and universal joint are key for this job.
i've done this on multiple Zs by my self... so it can be done.
Dumb question. How will these sound with stock exhaust?
9 years later!! I have a nismo exhaust on my Z still. Love it
i literally cant figure out how to disconnect the o2 sensor plug on my z...
CAN YOU PLEASE TELL ME THE LINK OF ALL THE PARTS YOU USED IN THIS VIDEO
