G37 Budget Build Part 3 - High Flow Cat Install DIY

- Hey everyone, hope everyone is enjoying the videos. Today's video is a DIY install I did for my high flow cats on my G37. This process is the same for most VQ motors (350z, 370z, G35). Hope some of my tips and tricks will help make this job easier for you. Dyno tune next!

Stock cats are THE MOST restrictive part of the exhaust system. I did those first and got more of a performance boost than when I installed the $1500 Magnaflow cat back system. Caveat Emptor, they are LOUD, but it's a good loud.
Was it loud with the stock mufflers? I don't want the car too loud so I was thinking change to hi flo cats, get a tune because I read it runs lean after the cat change-up and stick with the stock exhaust to keep the sound down.
@@brentfaas1398 I wouldnt say offensively loud. When I start the car it sounds like V8 muscle car. The neighbors never say anything so I guess it's acceptable. Yes, I do reccomend a dyno tune. The fuel air ratio gets a little wonky with the stock ECU.
Thanks Alex, my "cats" are gone too. Watching your channel is going to save me a ton of money doing it myself. Although, I wish you could have shared where you sourced these parts, other than the dealership...I'd appreciate it, if can share this info, so that we save even more money....$$$
Edit: for your demon bolts, try using a stubby wrench, with car body to prevent bolt fr turning. I usually fit wrench on, turn it until it catches on inner wheel well.
I removed my cat's. It's first upgrade I do to all my cars. After I get it safetied and emission tested of course ;) I put straight pipes on, and use spacers for my O2 sensors to prevent triggering code.

Hey man I just have a quick question so when u put the high flow cats, does it make any bad fumes smell, carbon monoxide or something like that ?
You didnt show how you got the Cat out of the Y Pipe...mines is unbolted but the Cat studs are long and not enough space to seperate..im afraid of breaking Y pipe

Hey Alex, i just got fast intentions rhfc, directions say something about a knuckle on the bottom of the steering shaft, marking and removing the bolt. I don't think that was mentioned in your video?
What if we can’t get the demon bolt seven with a 6 foot breaker?
How many extensions did you end up using for those demon bolts? What size were they?

Hi - I'm having all the trouble in the world finding catalytic converters for a 2009 Nissan Skyline GT370 - any suggestions?
If I just have top speed axle backs and planning on installing berks hfcs do I need a tune? Asking this question because the stock cats are making a rattling noise from the honey comb mesh inside falling apart and I just wanted to replace them with aftermarket instead of oem.
Great video. Very helpful. Did you use some kind of rtv or sealant for the gaskets also or just gaskets? Thanks.
Always use new gaskets, and it doesn't hurt to add a tiny bit of high temp RTV to both sides of gaskets. Make sure to clean surfaces gaskets going on too, make sure there's no crud buildup, old gasket material etc.
I got a quick question so I got all the nuts and bolts busted lose except for the demon bolt on the driver side. I tried an impact gun with 645 ft lbs of breaking torque on it no luck won't budge. Is it possible if I cut the bolt somehow will I be able to remove the cat or am I just screwed lol.
Hi I have a 2009 g37xs and I have a muffler delete right now with 2.5 in piping from the resonators back I want to make my car louder but not have a raspy noise, how much louder do the hfc’s make the car, is there a noticeable difference, and what kind of noise does it give you like any pops or crackles? If u could get back to me thatd be great

Hey bro. How would you compare this to the clutch job? In terms of difficulty and complexity. Im sure clutch takes alot longer but how difficult compared to this? Ive swapped cats on 7 different Z and G cars and am going to do clutch job in the future but never have. What say you? Thanks sir
So my cats are bad and the oem ones are $1200 you got me fucked up. So if I go with high flow cats for $500 what’s the difference from the oems? Will I be more loud and not be able to smog?

question for you. I have an 08 G35 sedan, had the dealer install berk hi flows (long story, I had no choice) anyway, the G is throwing a cel for all sensors connected (air fuel / o2) they're claiming I need to replace the sensors (of course they are) and will not let me do a ecu reset on the car to see if the codes just need to be cleared and the ecu will be happy or if I actually need to replace the sensors. they also informed me that I must get a tune done if I want the car to work at all.
so I guess what i'm asking is, in your experience. Do i need a tune now, or can I wait a few months until I get the cat-back exhaust on (ARK is what i'm going with) and lets just say the sensors got damaged during the cat replacement, if I bought new sensors do you think an ecu reset will resolve the CEL*(since at that point the cats are new and so are the sensors so really there shouldn't be an issue??)

Not sure if Alex is active any more but I would like to know if you have found anything out. I did axle back flowmaster 44s myself on my 07 and was thinking about doing the hfc's. Not so much for sound but a few extra hp. Any info on your experience, if you did tune or not.

Did you guys have a problem with the hardware not fitting the stock exhaust manifold. Idk if I just got fucked but i had a mechanic tell me he had to drill to make bolts fit???

Hi I installed some invidia high flow catalytic converters on my 2013 Infiniti m37. The hf cats are supposed to be cel fix to not throw a check engine light on, but mines came on, when it wasn't on before. What do you suggest I need to do so the check engine light doesn't come on. I called invidia and they said something about a L shape extender for the o2 sensor or re-tuning
Yea my CEL came on as well. I have yet to experience a set of HFCs that doesn't cause a CEL. I would suggest the L extenders/defoulers and see if that helps. That usually does the trick.
Oh ok. I ordered the invidia high flow catalytic converters that supposed to be cel fix where it don't throw the check engine light on. The hf cats have an extended bung on them. But light still came on
I would try the "L" extender and see if that helps.

ive watched this video a few times. My one question is how well did it help you on your tune?
I'm not sure how much I gained just from the high flow cats themselves because I also installed other parts. But, high flow cats/test pipes usually help you gain a good amount of power compared to other mods.
ima have to try this. Ive raced a Challenger RT and i beat the car but it was a 2013 i think and i want to run a 2015 because they are more consistent in there power output. Thanks for the info man. I truly do like watching all your videos...4-5 times lol
I got a 2012 infiniti g37X what mods would you recommend for overall performance for a reasonable price range
Hard to say. It depends how much you have to spend. Since the stock air boxes flow very well, I would start by maybe throwing in some K&N drop-ins and maybe the silicone intake tubes. Then, if you have the money I would do high flow cats. You can get some decent gains with high flow cats without getting tuned right away. Hope this helps!
AlexKayRN You could also check on the Afe Pro dry S air filter if you get tired of oiling your K&N filter.
Hey Alex, after you installed the HF Cats and got the tune from RT, did your car still pass NJ emissions? I live in PA and have a G37S sedan that is my daily driver and I need to make sure it will pass emissions if I do this mod.

@@swervv2957 bro I fixed the issue by just getting test pipes and a tune. I would recommend going with oem cats since some states don’t allow for cars to run without cats

im having issues with this damn g37 . my rpm s are going crazy . wtf could it be ? i did the throttle body clean . the idle relearn . the maf sensors. the air filter clean . the fuel pump and fuel filter. what could it be. im stumped. im ready to sell .

I have Stillen HFCs and haven't had any issues. Berk HFCs are really good as well.

Alex Wilcox My car had a CEL after these but if you use an angled defouler, you shouldnt have a problem. Also these were used so brand new high flows probably wouldnt throw a CEL.

Hey Alex, I have a 2013 Infiniti M37S, I noticed that whenever I accelerate hard I have a strong odor of some type. It doesn’t smell like brakes or oil. Have you heard of this issue with any Infiniti’s?
Kevin Nelson happens to my G35 occasionally. I guess it’s either bad catalyst converter or caused by burning specific brand of fuel. California gas sucks.

Ali Ibarra It wont kill the car just be careful. I wouldnt rev the car past 3k rpm or so and when you get down to half tank, fill it will 93. You should be ok.
i been revving the life out of it im almost half way empty bout to fill up with big boy gas also my A/C Schrader Valve went out

may be too late, but you can put some 100 grade gas as soon as you used a little of the tank. 100 gas is highly limited in the states. There is a gas station near me sells 100 grade, it is labeled "racing fuel", the price is 9.99 almost fixed. The gas station is right next to a local airport, maybe thats why. Think about gas in german, they have 100 almost everywhere, and the highest you can get is 107 I think, the cost is ridiculous too.
