Digging the LED ring. I like how visible it is, and without being obnoxious looking. Love your Jeep, Tommy.

I have a 2103 2-Door Sport S on a 3.5" AEV Dual Sport Lift, 17" Fuel Revolver Wheels and Toyo Open Country R/Ts, and the Tereflex Spare Tire Carrier. The gear ratio from the factory is 3.73. I use it for both offroading with the local jeep club, and also as my daily driver, commuting 50 miles per day to and from work. Its such a joy to drive, that I barely drive my other vehicle (Leased CX-5). My lease on my CX-5 ends soon, so I'll be using the extra funds to install new bumpers and Winch. As for my lifted jeep...I traded in my Prius for it and I have absolutely no regrets. Your jeep looks so fantastic and looks so great with the gray color (Mine is white with black hard top).

I love the modifications you’ve done. Especially the bumpers and lift. I was inspired to purchase the Teraflex 3” lift for my 2017 JK after seeing yours. Sadly, those awesome shocks were out of my price range. I went with the 9550’s instead. I also purchased Mammoth Boulder 17”x9” wheels and 35” K02’s. I’m currently saving for the spare tire system that you’ve got to hang my 35” spare on the back. I really enjoy all the videos you guys do. Especially the ones featuring your Jeep. I’m hoping you make many more.
    Thanks for the quality entertainment!

These things aren't that 'bad;' trust me! I work at a Jeep service center and it would blow your mind at how many problems there are with these things. Overheating nonstop! Get something...anything that isn't a Dodge, Jeep, etc

    • @powerfulk9790
      @powerfulk9790 6 років тому +2

theres so much heat that comes from under the hood that you can feel it seeping out when you exit the vehicle. I think this caused my wipers or fuse block to go bad. My advice would be to get the aev vented hood with snorkle or power dome hood if youre not gonna go with the new model soon Tommy. You did good getting the Manual 2 door though, the auto transmission is finnicky/laggy and I was getting 12mpg in the city. Also, the 4door turn radius is abysmal. 2018 model fixes a lot of the problems as you know- hood latches, vents, better manual transmission, led headlights, crawl ratio, turning, bigger tire clearance from stock, etc.

You are probably right (I hate Chrysler in general--crap mechanics), but... there's something about a Jeep. I love my old TJ.

I've got a 16 with 37k on it....no issues. Daily driver. Doesn't sit in a garage and driven all four seasons...so I don't know what your talking about as far as I'm concerned I'm impressed and very satisfied with my JK. 4th one. 06,11,14,16. Maintenance is key with any vehicle. Not a Chrysler fan but Jeeps I've owned have been better than fine and reliable. I plan to keep this one to about 200k. Sucks that some of you have had bad experiences but most people I run into are happy with theirs. No vehicle is perfect. Take care and wave damn it lol.

    • @anthonygiordano3991
      @anthonygiordano3991 4 роки тому

JackH Tech49 - Yes, but to be fair, you work in the service center. Your job is basically seeing and dealing with nothing but problems on the vehicles. In the same respect, a Toyota service guy could say the same thing.. they see nothing but the problems. But we wouldn’t necessarily say Toyota’s are bad or unreliable vehicles. If 100,000 Jeeps sell and there are problems with 10,000 of them.. that’s a relatively low percentage of problems but since you see 100% of the 10,000 vehicle issues, of course you’ll have a negative view of them. But what about the 90% of the good ones that you don’t see? You’re not seeing those good Jeeps because they aren’t there. So, although I wouldn’t say Jeeps are “reliable” I wouldn’t be so quick to say they aren’t either. It’s all relative.

You can't go wrong with a 2 door Wrangler. My first "car" that was given to me when i was 14 was a Suzuki Sidekick 2 door.... like a geo tracker... it only had 30k miles and in awesome shape. I beat it on and off road, jumped it etc. Until i blew the top end about 5 years later! Fit on quad trails and never got stuck! Wish i would have kept and fixed it. Hard to find another.

In the the CJ’s and YJ’s the front seat completely lifts forward giving a lot of room to get to the back seat. I don’t knot know why they removed this feature from these newer Wranglers. It would solve entering and leaving the back seat from 2 door issues.
Love your set up Tommy. Great decision on your Jeep mods. And also, thanks for your great Jeep videos.
I have an ‘09 Rubicon manual 2 door on a 4” Zone lift. I am running stock sized mud terrains and have had no issues keeping up with guys with larger tires. I replaced my bumpers with Mopar front with winch in bumper and AEV rear. I’m very pleased with my Jeep except wish the seat would fold forward rather then slide. My next mod will be 255/80/17 tires. I’m on the east coast but am planning to go to the Jeep Jamboree in Colorado in Sept. It’d be great to meet you guys there.

Thanks Tommy. I really enjoy you and your dad's channel. You seam like people I would enjoy hanging out with.
We're a 2 jeep family now. My wife has a 2012 JKUS that we bought new and only has 18K miles on it, and I recently traded my 2011 Dodge Charger R/T Road & Track model for a new 2018 JLUS, so I'm thinking about what modifications to do to each.
One video that would be fun would be getting a quality backup camera with an infotainment system installed on your JK. As I'm sure you know the JK's didn't come with a backup camera and in researching it, it seams to be a very expensive upgrade with challenges to get the JK's computer to operate seamlessly with the backup camera and infotainment head unit.
Thanks for all you and your dad do!

Good info. Well done. We just bought an '07 Wrangler X, not sure what the differences are between the different models. Not a terrible road vehicle, we don't plan on any rock crawling but we will use it for off road exploring. Might do a 2.5" lift. It currently has AEV 17" rims + 32" tires. It came with the factory hard top. We'll definitely do black wheels, maybe 33's and a front bumper.

Great video, I love the mods! I just bought a 07’ Wrangler X two door and I love it. Has a 3” lift and front ram bar installed over the stock bumper, which gives the Jeep a rock hard look. The wheels are 18” and tires are 35’s. The lift has a great balance, where at slow speeds going around town it feels like a proper suv/rock crawler and has the appropriate bumpiness without throwing you everywhere, and then when you get on the highway it’s smooth as butter. So far I’m loving it!
Curious, how much does the Falcon Series 3 shocks kit cost? Looks sick, might be looking to upgrade to that. Thanks so much!

You should totally calibrate for the larger tires. Might get some of your mileage back. I recently got a new JL and I was getting about 20.5 mpg on stocks. Went to 33s and it went down to 17. Recalibrated and it went back up to about 18.5-19mpg. So the TazerJL I used should pay for itself over time.

I like the V6 pentastar. It's the Workhorse of Chrysler. It's the standard engine in Jeep Grand Cherokee, Dodge Durango, Charger, Challenger, Chrysler 300, it's a premier engine in the 200, (which has recently been discontinued). About the only vehicle you're not going to find that engine in will be the Rams which start at the 5.7 L Hemi

If your axle shafts have not snapped yet, then good job. For rock crawling some prefer the automatic, that thing called a torque converter actually works when you need to move slow, like double your power right off idle. You did not (or did I miss it) state that your rig is no longer 50 state legal, and if there is ever an accident, good luck with that. My Dunlop Mud Rovers seemed to wear very fast driven on road, and the noise ... people would ask what is that? ...and they also will dig a hole much faster, maybe your Rocky mud is more "rocky" than what I had in NorCal. Also, the CDI factor (Chicks Dig It).

Nice. I had the same bumpers on my Jeep. I like how the front ends come up to meet the factory fender flares. Great for a winch plus, all important for Colorado residents, it actually has a spot for your front license plate. I found the LED ring to be very interesting. I like it but if you don't have spoked wheels it won't work. Personally, I prefer the hard top. I put together a simple rig in my garage where I could pull mine off, by myself, in just over 15 minutes. Jeeps are the most fun vehicle out there. The only problem is that they just aren't practical. They are great for a single guy like you. Have a family? They don't work well. Great as a toy/second vehicle. That being said, I dream/can't wait for the day when my very practical F150 is paid off and I can buy another JKU as my second vehicle.

I scoff at those calling the Pentastar a mini van engine. It was NOT first used in a mini van, but instead, in the Charger/300. It is a great Jeep engine because it gets 90% of its torque around 1200-1500 rpms, which puts it ahead of the peak torque of the venerable 4.0 inline 6, which Jeep guys fawn over. It then keeps pulling from there, all the way to 6500rpms. It is the best factory Jeep engine to date, period. The 3.8 was the mini van engine. I have one in my 08 JK, and while it serves reliably and adequately, it isn't even close to the Pentastar. The fact the new Pentastar can deliver 23mpg on the highway in a Wrangler makes it all the more impressive. I can't wait to sample the 84:1 crawl ratio in my 18 JL Rubicon with the manual. It should be amazing off road! Thanks for the great video, Tommy!

I have a 5 Speed Auto and 3.73 gear ratio, and performance has been okay so far, but I have not had a chance to do any rugged trails yet due to my work schedule, so I'm still evaluating if I need to regear to 4.10 or stay with 3.73, but so far, 3.73 seems to be adequate so far.

Sleeve, guesset, and trust ur Dana 30 but it’s not worth upgrading cause you can’t change the fact the ring and pinion gear size is 7 1/4 and is really the weak link if u do up grade ur D30 and the D44 is almost same tubes but different housing with 8 3/4 R&P .......save ur money wheel it til it brakes and just buy the 60s u won’t regret it

  • @_TenaciousD_

Love your channel. But to be clear, all non-Rubicon's have D30 front diff (not D35). Also Rubicon's have 31 spline axle shafts vs the non-Rubicon models having 27 spline.
Like you say there's nothing wrong with the D30 unless you run 37"+ tyres and/or wheel really hard.
Also worth mentioning that the difference between D30 vs D44 front diff is on the ring and pinion, the rest of the axle housing is identical so both have tiny weak axle tubes (even with a Rubicon you'll bend the axle tubes easily with 35" tyres and moderate wheeling).

I have a 2017 Rubicon Recon edition and am planning on doing the 2" Mopar lift, and am debating whether to go with 33" tires or 35". Did you debate tire size before you went with your 35" tires? Also, something I have found out is tires actually come in all kinds of diameters. Just because a tire is a 33 or 35 doesn't mean the diameter is that. They can vary up to several inches in their diameter. What is the actual diameter of your tire?

Tommy, with all the Experience you'd had lately in the JL, how do the two compare? If you had the chance, would you trade to the 2 door JL, and would you recommend people skip the JK and go to the JL, or is the JL still worth buying? I have some thoughts on this, but unlike me, you've had the chance to drive both - not many people have yet at this point. Oh, and I love those wheels, the Jeep looks great! This video helped me decide if I wanted to go with 35' or 37' inch tire. I'm going to go with 35's. I have a a 2 door jk also and I wasn't sure if 35's would look too small or if 37's would look too big. I've seen pictures of jk with 35's and they look small. I like the look of the 35's here.

You did a awesome job with your Wrangler. I wish it was more affordable here in Brazil so I could also have one like this yours. However, by now, I am satisfied with my Suzuki Jimny ;)

I think that ring probably works better than the stock brake lights (as long as you have open rims like yours).

Great content as usual. However, the non-rubicon JK models typically come with a Dana 30 front, and Dana 44 rear, no?
I know originally in '07 some were put out with the Dana 35 axle, but quickly changed.

So, if you haven't corrected your speedo, it's off by about 14%. If you take 16mpg x 14% = 2.24. So your actually getting 18.24 mpg !!

I'm not really a Jeep guy, I'm a Toyota guy. That being said that is a great looking Wrangler and I would be happy to own it. It looks right, not too high and none of those stupid led light bars. :)

Nicy mods Tommy. I think if you ditch those bland factory fenders and replace them with a more aggressive design you'll have one great looking Jeep.

Don't even have a jeep and loved the 3rd brake light rather cool. I'm sure they make some but would look into going to LED/brake turn signals so they would all hopefully light up at the same time. :)

Loved the video, man. I've got my set of BFG KM2 35s sitting in the garage, my 17" Trophys on order and will be picking up my ST3 lift next month. I run 3.73 for my Willys W JKU so hearing your thoughts on the 35s with that gear ratio was helpful. I think I'll be just fine...
