Just changed the passenger side low beam without removing the tank or breather. I am not a small person and it was tight but really doable. Give it a try before taking things apart. You may be pleasantly surprised like I was.
This is a very good DIY. I will never find where is the parking light socket without this post. It is hided deep inside. Thank you for the post. I successfully replaced mine. I found that it was easy to reach the socket if the headlight socket was removed first. That gives you more room to move around. I have small hand so I don't need to remove my coolant reservoir tank and the air intake assembly.
Went around the car and noticed my side light on my headlights was out along with the license plate light. Thanks for the video, the sockets needed some more force than expected but came out nicely. This video saved me a lot of time and headache. Thanks!! 😊
I found it easier to remove the air intake ductwork (3 - 10mm head bolts with a socket wrench) which provided ample room to fit my whole forearm inside without having to contort my wrist so much. The bulb marker bulb sockets only have to turn a tiny amount to remove & the headlight is kind of in the way so I removed it from its' housing to provide additional room to maneuver. In & out within 15 minutes.
The coolant reservoir in my 2012 has only 2 bolts. I needed to replace the parking lights and side markers for both sides. The driver's side was very easy, but the passenger side, particularly the side marker bulb, was fairly difficult. I'm right handed, but couldn't find a good position to try with my right hand. I ended up standing beside the right fender, facing forward and using my left hand. Even so, with my arm/hand where I could reach the side marker bulb, it felt like I barely had enough leverage to turn the bulb socket for removal and reinstall. As mentioned elsewhere, it helped to remove the (low beam?) headlight for access to the side marker light. Maybe do yourself a favor and replace with LEDs? That's what I did. I hope I never need to replace them again.
Thanks for the video. Thanks also for identifying the bulb type as 168. I was able to order a packet of 20 equivalent bulbs on ebay for $3.50. I own two Prius and both have some burned out bulbs in the headlight assembly. I'll have plenty of spares and I'm sure the same bulbs are used in other areas of the cars as well.
The specified bulbs are #2825 & are 12 volt, 5 watt. The 168's are 14 volt, 4.9 watts. The 168 will probably fit, but I don't know what other issues may arise so I went with the 2825's.
I didn't have to remove the three bolts on the passenger side, was able to slide my hand at an angle and get the bulb out,. I wear a large/med glove size so I don't have tiny hands either. Took a minute but was able to do it.
Getting the orange right side marker out was easy. Getting it back in was a miracle. I had to stop for a day and come back. Had to remove everything shown.
Hello. Iam having a very hard time putting back those side marker bulbs in. I do try twisting I️t to put I️t in place but maybe Iam not aligning the socket straight enough to twist I️t in place.
You're probably trying too hard. Gently rest the bulb and socket back into the hole and wiggle it gently until you feel it seat in place then gently turn it clockwise a quarter turn. Done!
@@cecilcindychappell4909 I just replaced my passenger side headlight bulb. V-e-r-y difficult to reseat before twisting clockwise when putting it back in so I found it much easier to leave wiring unattached before aligning and twisting. Then quite easy to snap the wiring back on. It's the blind fumbling for the hole that is so hard with the wires attached so this is much easier to feel when to lock it in. FYI. Otherwise, I know nothing about cars.
Need little woman hands to get passenger side outside parking light out. Otherwise you have to remove overflow and bend the bracket that holds it towards the back of the car.
Stand on the right side of your car, facing the same direction it is, and go in left-handed, palm up. Easy even with large hands. The side marker light is a whole different story...
@@goryspirit yeah no. I couldn't get past the washer fluid mount. Had to bend it backwards about 6 inches. And barely got in there without cuts. The driver side was easy.
@@joepublic6256 no. Was completely serious . I was working on a Prius ,and anyone can figure out how to get it out of the housing . I had to watch another video to see how to properly remove the bulb from the black carrier .
I almost got charged over $400 for a professional mechanic to replace these bulbs and I just finished it in under five minutes. Thanks to this.

just changed my bulbs to LED ones using this method and worked great....thank you very much for making this video, it helps a lot.

Thank you! Changing the driver's side was so easy thanks to your description. I used a 2825 bulb, 5W, works perfectly.
So glad when it was the driver's side and not the passenger's...
"thats what she said" finally some important information!

Great instructional tip! What type of bulb is the parking lights? Thanks.

great video, fanatastic camera work under extremely difficult 3d geometric obstacles!!

I was able too, without removing the bolts. My hands are same: M~L.
Since I have real man sized hands and not tiny Trump sized hands I needed to remove the reservoir to replace my bulbs
I had to take out the whole overflow assembly and bend the metal bracket that holds it in place, out off the way. You have tiny hands.
Me too, and it’s a good thing because they were led bulbs and I had to mess with them several times days later to get them to stay on.

Thanks! Very helpful video!
What is the bulb size for both the marker and park light? are there specific led for this application, some get hot and burn out quickly ..
Great video very helpful
Great video. Thanks
2015 Prius V has Autozone 194 bulbs being used interesting.

But how do you physically remove the bulb from the ballast?
Joshua B pull it out.
probably also what she said.
was thinking the same thing
That’s what she said 😂😂😂
Thanks man
The yellow one on the side is what they call a side marker bulb right? That is what I need to change.
yes
Changed all my burnt out bulbs in less than 5 minutes. Thank you.
those sockets are hard to turn by hand.
Can you show us how to replace the entire headlight assembly?
Gerard DeNegre different videos for that
If you have to replace the socket, is there a socket # for it?
Thank you!
Test your bulbs before you put them back in. It's rare but you could get a faulty bulb.
Head light for lighting the cam shot..
what are the lightbulb models for Prius V 2016?
But we need to know how to remove those bolts in those two items
You need a 10mm socket wrench to unscrew them.
I have the lights. But i’m scared to do it myself
is it possible to reach the turn/running lights down bellow? I just watched one video where he takes the entire bumper off.
Kinda late but you can get to em by pulling the plastic bottom of the bumper, 2x 10mm and a lot of clips. Best done on jack stands
Thanks
Mine just blew got to fix before the law gigs me.
It’s NOT “very easy” to replace the bulb.
At least in my case the old bulb is stuck and won’t come out.
The f*ing store, NTB, was charging $170 to change it

I wish you showed how to actually remove the bulb .. anyone can figure out how to get the bulb out of the housing
anyone can figure out how to pull on the bulb and pull it out of the socket. It's not rocket science.
