  • You lead a large team. You are the head of a household. You have millions of followers or thousands of subscribers. And you often wonder...
    Am I being a good leader? Am I doing right by my kids, my followers, my employees? Am I being a good steward?
    👑 Sign up for the Daily Stoic Leadership Challenge, a 9 week deep dive into what it takes to be a great leader based on the timeless wisdom of the Stoics - dailystoic.com/lead
    It can be hard to know. Employees don’t go out of their way to tell their manager that they are doing a great job. Kids don’t fill their parents in on how they are doing. The unhappy followers tend to be louder than the happy ones.
    But from the Stoics, we get a fast and easy test for whether we’re doing a good job.
    It’s this: Do you make people better? As Seneca said, “Happy is the man who can make others better, not merely when he is in their company, but even when he is in their thoughts!”

    every man should be a leader to himself, to rule over his self, to reign supreme over his desires, to have his mind exert control over his body. stoicism is the way to become that kind of person.

    Thank you, Mr. Ryan. I learned something very valuable from this video, and that is, as you've said to become a good leader, you must be a good reader. And I think that just fully resonates with me because I just started reading up a lot of self development books and I recently just picked up on two of my most favorite books of yours, "Discipline is Destiny" and "Ego is The Enemy". By far, I really enjoyed them and have learned a lot of practical things that I could implement to my day-to-day life, like disregarding my ego because it can very well potentially hinder my success and my continuous learning and growth, and Discipline is Destiny has given me the right mindset to navigate the daily good habits that I set out to pursue. You are a really great person and leader, and you are one of the leaders that I look up to the most, please keep your content up!

    Ryan, I can't thank you enough. There's a lot of stoic videos on UA-cam, but fewer Stoicism videos. I love that you're not relying on AI, or attempting guilt trips about being Stoic in today's world, or any other bs simply for views. You deliver true Stoicism, and I appreciate you, man. Your books, videos and daily email are exactly what helps, and what I need. Between you, Robert Greene, Massimo Pigliucci, and a small handful of others, I have never looked up to others nearly as much, thank you.

    "Rushing is another form of going nowhere." (from the mindfulness book 30 Days to Reduce Anxiety, by Harper Daniels). I like this quote by Harper Daniels. It seems like stoicism, eastern thoughts, and all world religions share the important message of slowing down, being grateful for the present moment, and not taking life so seriously. I like the Tao Te Ching also for meditation, for this reason...for emptying the mind. Marcus Aurelius said “Today I escaped from anxiety. Or no, I discarded it, because it was within me, in my own perceptions; not outside.” It's so important to practice silence each day, to slow down and observe oneself.

    0:23: 📚 Leaders have been turning to stoic philosophy to improve their leadership skills and be more present and focused.

    I'll see you and Robert Greene in Seattle on 9/21. My domestic partner and I are driving there from Portland. She finally sees the benefits of stoicism because I haven't stopped practicing it since the beginning of our relationship 4 years ago. I'm looking forward to it, and I'm grateful that you and Mr. Greene will be close to home. I've been watching your videos and receiving daily stoic emails for a long time now. You don't have to have an opinion about that. Lol. ✌️

    A better alternative to "happy wife, happy life" you can say "happy spouse, happy house".

    • @SikOfBS
      @SikOfBS 8 місяців тому

      No. People need to stop being so damn obtuse! It's just a damn phrase. It's not harmful, hate filled or any other bout of ridiculousness. It's a simple phrase. Cowering to ridiculous social norms is only making unnecessary bs worse. People can't handle something so innocuous as an old saying, yet expect to grasp stoicism? Interesting. It's not that it's bothersome as nearly as much as baffling. If things aren't to bother you, as Marcus Aurelius said, why does a simple phrase need a silly disclaimer?
      It's a serious question, nothing else. Interpret it as you wish.

    • @jsmorache
      @jsmorache 8 місяців тому

      you dont't have to be a simp to have or create a happy wife. By being a leader a true alpha that succeeds in all areas of life, this is the key to a happy wife. Not catering to her or running around trying to make her happy like a puppet. I understand what you are trying to say, and I agree, if your main focus is to soley make her happy at the sacrifice of other things, then yes you are a simp.
