    I love this series so much. Higgins did the heavy lifting for lore building of the new Ranger universe, Parott got to focus on the character relationship and works so well. Matt's arc from the beginning here to where he goes to Mighty Morphin', beautiful. Just wish volume 2 wasn't so completely double dipping the the two Necessary Evils

    I’ve been meaning to watch this review for weeks and shame on me for being here after the passing of JDF. But I’ve been interested in these Ranger comics for some time now and I went all in. I even just overpaid for Shattered Grid. Smh. Can’t wait to read these. And Dan Mora is my new favorite artist. I don’t blame you for not being a fan of power rangers in high school. It was def geared to all us 6 year old's in 1993. But I’m glad these comics are a mature version. Can’t wait to dig in. RIP Tommy/JDF.

    Correct me if I'm wrong but the earlier deluxe HC's didn't collect everything did they? I think that's why I never jumped on these books.
    *EDIT*
    Wait, this is the second series that was released in conjunction with the original MMPR series? So the original deluxe HC's collect MMPR and this collects Go Go?
    And both of these series are prior to the Mighty Morphin and Power Rangers series?

    • @kamikaze5528
      @kamikaze5528 Рік тому +4

      This one collects Gogo Power Rangers. It's a companion series to the Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers one.
      The 6 original HCs collect MMPR from issues 00-55 as well as some extras. They also collect GOGO 09-12, 21-32 (issues 13-16 are collect in the volume Omar just showed, and 17-20 are going to be collected in volume 2 along with the rest of the series. Yes, there's double dip). So as far as the original run, they collcet everything from the main series.
      The Power Rangers and Mighty Morphin' series are a direct continuation of the MMPR series, they just rebooted the numbering, with the original number on the inside cover. MM 01 is MMPR 56 and PR is MMPR 57, and they go alternating the series in the numbering. And as soon as that reached 22 issues each, making PR 22 the 99th in the internal numbering, they've gone back to the previous title with issue 100.
      Confusing just as comics can be ;)

    Could anyone recommend a reading order for the new 52 in omnibus format? I was going to get the flashpoint omnibus, but I don't know if it's best to start with the justice league omnibus after or is it better to read each individual characters first. Like superman, wonder woman, batman, Aquaman. Im looking to read it all in chronological order if possible. Any recommendations would be much appreciated.

    • @NichoMania2
      @NichoMania2 Рік тому +6

      They all start around the same place after flashpoint [except green lantern, and Morrison's Batman run],
      that being a new run starting from the idea that the person reading may be a new reader, or just know the character by name,
      so, it really depends on which is your favorite character.
      I would recommend starting with Snyder Batman, as that tends to be the standout run from the era, especially vol1 of the omni's.
      Those stories are the ones people most remember positively from the N52-era in particular.
      After that, it's up to you where to stop reading that run and bounce between other ones.
      If you want multiple heroes in one omni, justice league is where to go.
      If you like your superhero groups spooky, Justice League Dark.
      Single story spooky times? Jeff Lemire Animal Man or Swamp Thing N52.
      Want some Morrison doing a new take on Superman [after already knocking it out of the park with Allstar Superman]? Read his N52 Superman run.
      Want a short run of a legendary writer on the man of steel? Read the very short N52 run george perez had on Superman as well. [not in omni form, but tpb]
      Want Wonder Woman with an odd modernity to the pantheon [kind of darker Percy Jackson-esque]? Read N52 wonder woman.
      Want Aquaman? They got Aquaman, by geoff johns too.
      Want a Flash comic with SUPER colorful expressive art? The flash omni by manapul is that.
      You also have two Nightwing omni's, with the latter run getting a 2022 edition out next week. [Nightwing as a secret agent, Grayson]
      You also get a great character driven Batgirl omni by Gail Simone as well, still in stock at a lot of places.
      All in all, Flashpoint would be a good place to start, per se, to know what caused the whole universe-reset [this time].
      BUT, if you just want to dive in, I'd just jump into the Snyder omni vol 1. [Unless you have a different fav hero from the ones listed above]
      Top Quality ones, generally from fan response, were mainly Batman, Animal Man, Swamp Thing, Justice League Dark.
      The others, you might be best off giving them a 'trial' read on some online-reading website before putting the money down on a giant hardcover.
      But that's all the tips I've got for ya. Good luck! 😁
      [edit: somehow forgot flash]

      @@NichoMania2 thanks for taking the time to right all that. I think I'll just jump in with batman, read the others like wonder woman, Aquaman, superman and then read both justice league omnibuses. I'm interested in Geoff Johns Green lantern but ive heard there's alot of lore around that character. Do you think I could just read his three omnis plus maybe blackest night and brightest day or would it need other material to fully understand/ appreciate the story?

    • @NichoMania2
      @NichoMania2 Рік тому +2

      @@bensheridan7967 No problem! Happy to help. 😁
      As for GL though, I'm not entirely sure, as though I love the character [due to loving The New Frontier storyline by Darwyn Cooke]
      I don't have any of the omnibi, and haven't read too many of the comics, besides O'neil's GA/GL, Emerald Knights, and Waid's Brave & the Bold.
      I do know Geoff John's run is lauded as the best starting point for someone who wants to jump into it, though, so I assume it gives setup for any new fans,
      so I think you should be safe jumping into that.👍
      It STARTS with green lantern rebirth [not to be confused with the green lantern runs during DC Rebirth......honestly DC runs out of titles way too easily]
      which was Johns retconning/putting the pieces together to get back Hal from what he'd been through previously, which was a LOT to say the least.
      [spoiler alert for the rest of the comment, it describes what came before johns' GL rebirth in very short, so, if ya don't wanna know it, I'd recommend just diving in. Or if you want to give it a trial read, online sites for them exist]
      =====================================================================================
      [spoiler alert]
      Hal went crazy after his home, Coast City, got nuked during Death of Superman by cyborg superman [the 90's were interesting], and he ended up killing the entire GL corps, taking their power, while one of the Guardians went to earth, making Kyle Reyner the ONLY green lantern for a while. During this, Hal was now Paralax, a villain who wanted the power to bring back everyone he'd lost. This took the form of Zero Hour, a whole other event with time travel fun, and him just generally being a bad guy. BUT, this all keeps going until Final Night happens, where the sun goes out, superheroes try and help people, but in the end Parallax, in a moment of heroism, reignites the sun and sacrifices himself in the process. He then goes on to become the new Spectre [the judeo-christian god's embodiment of vengeance in the dc universe. fun guy, cool comics, if you like off the wall punishments for criminals], so now Hal has to make penance for his past crimes as parallax. [also Emerald Knights is a good short story during this era to read for old Hal, Kyle, and Parallax bouncing off eachother, it's a quick read too, comes after Final Night].
      And that's around the time Geoff John's GL Rebirth happens.
      [Spoiler alert ends]
      =====================================================================================
      And that's the whole setup basically.
      GL Rebirth does base itself on the story that came before, but once the proper series begins, it's all an easy jump-into point, so i've heard.
      But yeah, hope that helped. 👌

      [Also, sidenote: If you just want Johns' GL run, the og 3 omni's would cover it all. Blackest Night and Brightest Day are kind of just one of those comprehensive, with the tie-in omni's. granted BN's one is GIANT, and idk if BD is in the third GL Omni. but def recommend going through the og GL omnis first, unless you want that full tie-in experience with them. 😄]

    So do you read this before or after the main series?

    • @HawkEyeTS
      @HawkEyeTS Рік тому +5

      So it's a bit complicated. Go Go Power Rangers launched a bit after the start of MMPR, but issue #1-7 are all prequel content that come before issue #0 of MMPR, because as Omar explained in the video, Go Go starts when they first get their coins. However, #8-12 are part of the MMPR Shattered Grid event which starts in MMPR #24. So if you've got the deluxe editions, it would probably be best to either read MMPR vol.1 and vol.2 first, then Go Go vol.1. The issues of Go Go #13+ return to the prequel style storytelling, but if I remember right they're somewhat aware of what happened in the crossover still.
      And as a heads up, vol.2 of Go Go will likely have issues #17-20, Forever Rangers (one-shot), and then #21-32. I split them like that because 17-20 and Forever Rangers continue the prequel content, and then 21-32 are the front half of the Necessary Evil era that show what happened during the time jump in MMPR. Go Go and MMPR both end as series at that point and are replace with 'Mighty Morphin' and 'Power Rangers', each following what would be spoilers to detail. So yeah, Go Go is a little messy and probably would have worked out better if they had just done a big #1-20, Back to School, and Forever Rangers volume, and then let people pick up the MMPR volumes for Necessary Evil.

    • @ConorB1
      @ConorB1 Рік тому

      @@HawkEyeTS would the SG event be confusing if you are just reading Go Go?

    • @HawkEyeTS
      @HawkEyeTS Рік тому

      @@ConorB1 Okay, so this is a bit hard to talk around without spoiling things. If you were to read only Go Go Power Rangers, there are a few problems. First, you won't have any context for why the event is happening - all of the setup is over in MMPR. Second, a character is going to appear out of nowhere and you'll have no context for where they're from, but you might be able to figure it out by bits of back story provided in the GG issues. Third, something happens near the end that is only resolved in the rest of the event, so you won't ever get closure on it.
      Now, as far as the story lines in GG are concerned, it doesn't have too much in the way of aftermaths from the crossover, but if you want to know what happened in Shattered Grid and beyond, there's no choice but to read MMPR. And as I mentioned before, the issue #21-32 chunk of GG will be from the Necessary Evil era, which is set after the Shattered Grid storyline in MMPR's time period. Ultimately, both series were meant to be read together, which is why I'm so happy we finally got this release.
