The Alan Davis run in Excalibur is by far the best part of the series (#42-67). When recommending Excalibur to people, I pretty much tell them to just read #1-11, and then 42-67. Everything else is a chore to get through.
The first issue(s) on the first Vol the artwork work fantastic, really wished they had kept it like that. I tired to get into too but just couldn’t, i ended up selling it and I don’t regret it.
Does anyone recommend Captain Britain omnibus? Is it better than Excalibur? Also, I might just get the epics vol 1-11 and 42-67.. but passing up on hardcovers is tough. Any thoughts? Thanks
Thanks for vouching for the non-creator-centric Excalibur collection route. I remember enjoying how Alan Davis returned and picked up on some of the leftover threads Claremont left in the early issues. If his work in the first omni is any decent representation, I’m not looking forward to the Lobdell parts as much. Either way, I’m very happy this is coming out.
Thank you for the overview. Excited for my pre-order to release. I do wonder if a volume 3 would get announced. I might stop at volume 2. But... i could reconsider, sometimes your explanation of the stories helps me decide to keep going or to halt my collection. Not bad either way. Thank you, keep up the awesome work.
Preordered this last year, it’s definitely one of my most wanted omnibus. I love the DM cover but I ended up getting the standard edition. Either way I’m just pumped to finally have it. Great overview as always, thanks Omar.
🤩🤩🤩🤩I love it.❤❤❤ I can't wait until February to get it. It's like I am getting a second chance to get both of Excalibur Omnibuses volumes 1 and 2. This is the most happiest thing ever.
Pull up a chair, grab some bangers and mash, and turn the telly to Sir Omar of the House Near Mint in his telling of Ye Old Excalibur Omnibus Volume 2. Smashing!
Phew.... I kinda knew back then I was missing out, but never really picked up Excalibur until issue # 70. Now I will HAVE to go and get these 2 omni's!
I'm really losing patience with these books printed at Imak. I opened my copy today to find a super tight binding, but worse than that the last 20 pages or so are misprinted or miscut, with the color bars at top of page and multiple pages glued together. Every time I have a problem like this with a new omni it is printed at Imak. Omar, can you put in a word with David and ask if they have more problems from this printer? I see more people online having issues with books from them as well...
this is how a spine is done. glorious sinister artwork with great bold lettering. not that that puny feminine spine they been pumping out on the og classics with the small font and imagery.
@@ArticWS What about the glorious and sinister part thou fool. Facts are facts bro. small and petite writing is 100 percent feminine. Defend that beta male.
Omar didn't mention whether the colors had any scan issues in this volume? I have the Alan Davis Visionaries TPBs Vol. 1-3 and certain shades of color have those mosaic patterns. I'm pretty sure they're also present in the Epic Collection of these issues and also weren't fixed for the omnibus release either. Or am I wrong?
Alan Davis` run was brilliant but pretty much all the Excalibur specials, Graphic Novels and whatnot were almost unreadable. Weird War III is a perfect example.
I got my copy of this yesterday, and the binding seems much tighter than on yours. I was 350 pages in before i didn't need to hold it open. I don't have as big of an eye either. Anyone else have this problem? And I quite liked Mark Badger's admitedly unusual art. Stay safe everyone.
And in a nutshell there Omar, you perfectly highlighted what's been wrong with the current X-Calibur book! - Probably a miss for me here, the early Claremont/Davis stuff is excellent (deciding whether to go for the volume 1 epic or omnibus reprint), and the later Davis material is also worth following, but (and I think I still have a lot of the issues) it becomes too X centric, and generic and loses it's look and feel with way too many fill in creators on an ongoing basis, not all of them good.
Some early art from future stars makes this interesting but I will have to pass, still recovering from the omnigeddon late last year! I like the use of the logo on the spine. Imak seems to be getting a lot of work in recent times!
Alan Davis' return to Excalibur was pretty great, it's been years but I enjoyed them a lot. So if you like his work or that x-era I'm guessing you'd probably like this collection.
Alan Davis' return as both writer/artist deftly incorporated the elements of Moore's Captain Britain stories and Chlaremont's early Excalibur stories with classic MU lore to yield the best Excalibur tales ever. The other issues collected here are forgettable & inconsequential fillers that will make completists happy.
Alteady knew I would get this... but its good to be sure of the art and quality.
I’m low key tempted to pick this up. I have volume one and read it and wasn’t able to get into it. But with vol 2 I will have an incentive to do so.

Its really not that good. Don't fall for it

YES YES YES!!! I have had it preordered and just finished my vol 1
Great overview as always Omar! Been on preorder since mid-last year, can't wait for my delivery :)
Missed out on the first volume, but definitely grabbing this.
Volume 1 is coming back. In April.
Sweet, thanks for the info👌🏻
Very X-cited to get this V2 and New Mutants coming out. Hopefully Marvel will get around to an original X-Factor Omni. Gen X would be nice too!
This is the birthday gift I was looking for! And my X-men vol1 omni should arrive today too

Pre-Ordered the Joe Mad Cover and sold away my Epic Collections (vol 1-3) last year.

Tryin' to get the vol 1 when it gets reprinted... running out of room in my house!

I will certainly buy this one though I have not pre ordered it. Hope it doesn't immediately go out of print lol
just pre-ordered the 1st Excalibur omni and vol2 is coming in

You essentially married Kitty Pride…Melanie is pretty, wholesome, and can kick butt.😉 Way to live the dream Omar.
Looks good, have this cover pre ordered
Can't wait to pick this up, love Alan Davis' return to Excalibur. Along with New Mutants V.2 it's a really nice month for that x-era in omni format.
Anyone knows when we getting punisher marvel knights omni reprint?

Any idea when the reprint of vol 1 is suppose to be released?

Two more. For everything of the first series.

Is this actually coming out today? Mine has not shipped from Amazon yet.
I dont like that white background on dm cover at all so ill probably get the standard , but I can't remember which one I pre ordered lol
I can't wait for this. Hopefully they will do the full series.
Good old Hawd-Boiled Henwy.
A classic!
Any word on a reprint of Vol. 1?
April. Preorders are up at CGN and Walt’s comic shop.
I'm surprised the spine is using Alan Davis art, any idea who is on the spine of the standard cover?
It’s Rachel by Davis from that issue cover that I love. 61.
@@NearMintCondition Sweeeeet. Gonna look good next to the dm cover of vol 1 with Meggan.
hopefully it doesnt sell out like vol 1, I gotta wait a while to get this
7:09 loool this entire time looking at that cover why did I think that was Tweety bird from Looney Tunes hahahaha I'm so stupid XD
Cool . My cover, DM 😁
Is vol. 1 being reissued too?
April.
@@NearMintCondition what a time to be alive, reprint after reprint...
Xstatix one day? 😅
Here's hoping Volume 1 might crop back up again, kinda missed the bus on that one sadly.
Coming back in April. Right now Walt’s comic Shop and CGN have it for preorder.
@@NearMintCondition OH WOW! Guess I know where I'm spending my money next! Thanks a ton Omar! 😁
We need a reprint of Excalibur Omnibus Volume #1 as it went out of stock almost immediately when it hit retail in 2020....
April.

LOL, I actually like Mark Badger’s work. 😅
I remember digging his Gargoyle mini series.
@@NearMintCondition His art is better suited for supernatural settings and creatures, which is why I thought it worked on that Dr. Doom three-parter.

I know it wouldn't be "complete", but this omni would improve tenfold if they had just lopped off all the unnecessary content prior to issue #42.
Okay, but is this stuff actually worth reading? I can guess Omar's opinion, so I wanna hear from others, haha.

Trolls started in the pages of xfactor? I thought it was youtube that birthed the rise of the troll?
Aren't the stories pretty bad from what I've read online?
The Davis ones? They are great in my opinion.
The comments are re: the non Davis stories. That said, second hand copies are cheap enough now that it's a great value.

This book is so delayed I pre ordered it when ghost rider masterworks vol 3 came out
Don't talk to me about volume 2, I'm still waiting for volume 1, which I had on pre-order from Amazon. 🤬
I announced the reprint of Volume 1 coming in April.
Hurrah!

Good lord excalibur had the ugliest art of all the x-books. Some of this garbage makes leifeld look like da vinci
