Yes but also they thought he was wasted all the time. No one knew of his condition (not even himself for a while). So it was kinda a misunderstanding. A bad one but it was. Poor Joey spent some really bad years getting back walking and stuff.

Joey had health issues that prevented him to play. And wasn't sure if he was gonna be able to play again. But recovered and is doing well.

Funny thing is, I've seen Slipknot ot live and have been dying to go back. I'm in the process of begging my wife to go see with me who is not all that much into Slipknot. So,, we're kinda in the same boat in way. At work today, I was like "hey, I'm gonna pick my 3 favorite songs off every Slipknot album for like an awesome playlist." And guess what... I never made it off the first album because I couldn't narrow it down to just 3. I can do my fav 4 though. So just a thought, these are must listen to get your wife ready.

Some commenters here may have already said that, but Joey Jordison left the band because he got sick. He had a type of multiple sclerosis that prevented him from playing the drums because he had no more feeling in his legs for example.
It's not that good for a drummer...
I don't know how it looks with him today. And I don't know whether his illness is completely gone and whether he could still play Slipknot songs easily these days.
