I saw her perform at SDLC 2013 and it literally changed my life. I came home, looked my parents in the eye and told them my story for the first time. And when with true Staceyanne Chin passion, I said WHAT HAPPENED TO ME WAS NOT MY FAULT.
This woman is Jamaican. I recognize the accent. I love that she speaks for girls and women. When I grew up, like many, there was NO internet. No books to glean from in any library about women and our troubles. This woman is wonderful! Thank you!!!
The first time I watched it I cried, just watched for the second time and once again, I'm touched. Beautiful souls still exist. They can't take our stories away from us, no matter how much they try. Jah Bless.
my favorite slam poem. i love this woman and what she says about feminism. also, i had to laugh. it's so accurate and wonderful. this video makes me smile.
I've watched this three times already and i cry each time, when she gets towards the end.... when she says she wishes every woman can scream "What happened to me was not my fault". Beautiful.... complexly beautiful
I saw Staceyann for the first time in University in New York and fell in love with her poetry. She is awesome. I can't believe I saw her a few weeks ago in Barnes and Noble and was so star struck and shy I couldn't even say "hello".
That made me laugh and cry. I don't even know. I can't believe that I was watching for a whole 15 minutes. She is a truly strong person. I would like to be like her.
i feel like this should be played in middle school or high school to students ... to help them realize how significant these battles are and to help them reconcile their own personal problems
I thank you for your words Stacey Ann, your words of confidence will echo with me forever. I feel your glowing strength, and I feel it inspiring so many!
THIS WOMAN IS A GODDESS, A PROPHETIC, BEAUTIFUL, EMPOWERING, ENLIGHTENING, & RADIATING WOMAN. My God, what a strong, brave woman who brings out the strong, brave woman in me!
She came to my school a few weeks ago to do Take Back the Night. Sadly, I couldn't go because I had a huge assignment to finish, but all of my friends that went said she was mind-blowing and the experience was the most enriching they had ever had.
"the most radical thing a girl can do is own her body"

+Shannon Ryan It made me tear up.
I can't stop saying hemoglobin red in a jamaican accent!
I sobbed at the end. I was molested as a young child and I wasn't expecting that at all.
It makes me cry every time, but I feel like I'm not alone when I hear this poem.
