I've stopped taking her in public with me unless I am going to wait in the car with her. My vet called early in the Pandemic & told us to be careful because they can catch it. He just called me a few weeks ago & told me to stop taking her out because all they can give them is antibiotics and antibiotics don't actually work for viral infections but people insist on seeing their pets given medication for it. Last count he knows of 5 service animals that have died in our area, 4 dogs & a ferret. 😔

I’m also not going to lie, I’ve been complemented by 3 different people. I’ve worked really hard to train my dog, Roofus, who is already an adult, and a rescue Pitty/Boxer mix. He’s been pretty difficult to train, and some of the desensitizing is on hold as a result to not having kids, joggers, and other dogs around. But two days ago, my best complement came from a gentleman that my dog barked at when he first met him. He said, “You’re doing a really good job training him. He’s made a lot of progress.” I’m so proud of Roofus. I’ve had him for less than 6 months, and he’s learning a new command. He heels on my right, so I’ve been using a new phrase, “To the right.” He’s learning to turn right. This helps me, especially when I’m using a cart. I can’t turn him right if my right hand is on the cart, thus the verbal cue.

You really need to educate yourself. There is a huge difference between a trained pet that listen to commands and does tricks tjan an actual trained service dog.
Under the ADA, a service animal is defined as a dog that has been individually trained to do work or perform tasks for an individual with a disability. The task(s) performed by the dog must be directly related to the person's disability.
What does "do work or perform tasks" mean?
      A. The dog must be trained to take a specific action when needed to assist the person with a disability. For example, a person with diabetes may have a dog that is trained to alert him when his blood sugar reaches high or low levels. A person with depression may have a dog that is trained to remind her to take her medication. Or, a person who has epilepsy may have a dog that is trained to detect the onset of a seizure and then help the person remain safe during the seizure.
      CERTIFICATION AND REGISTRATION
Q17. Does the ADA require that service animals be certified as service animals?
      A. No. Covered entities may not require documentation, such as proof that the animal has been certified, trained, or licensed as a service animal, as a condition for entry.
There are individuals and organizations that sell service animal certification or registration documents online. These documents do not convey any rights under the ADA and the Department of Justice does not recognize them as proof that the dog is a service animal.

Hey im from the UK and the laws here are so stupid and not strict at all, I had a man in my shop with what he called a service dog, it didn't have any vest, no evidence of it being a service dog other than the man's word, the dog was not under control and he needed to pull the dog back a few times, he let another customer fuss the dog and when we spoke to him he kicked up a massive fuss, I asked him about tasks and the man litterly paused for a sec and they said sit to the dog 😂😂😂😂

My landlady refuses to let service dogs in training into the community room of our apartment complex. She even asked me if my service dog was registered and if he was trained to alert yet. I told her that he is in training, already knows the touch command, but we haven’t gotten to the point to have him associate the touch command with the action we want him to alert me to. She said we can’t have dogs in there because it’s a liability issue. I’m about to pull out the bigger liability card. Here’s a scenario with a service dog in training that is able to alert their handler, and they refuse him/her in the common area because they are a LIABILITY ISSUE. Their handler has an anxiety attack and their dog isn’t there to alert their handler, which is more of a liability? The dog laying calmly on the floor or the handler crumpled on the floor? The liability falls to the landlord at that point.
