That first trip out with an assistance dog is super important! On our first work outing, I realised I had taught her 'stay' too well, and I'd have to teach her 'walk' as well before we were in a shop again 😅

I really did hate seeing that from Max, but it's a surefire sign from the service animal that it's getting ready to retire on its own terms. So no need to be sad about it even though there is that emotional attachment. He's just going to be a loved and cuddled pet for the rest of his life. Mya's doing really well in this one you can still see some of that puppy energy, but impressive for how young she is. Okay to add on those are some mad phone carrying skillz!💯

This is one of my biggest fears for my service dog. She's 4 now. Can you give me any tips on when it's time to retire/think about getting a successor? I love how the lady in the store was nice about saying that Mia was allowed in the store. I wonder if Max is sick? I know that once a service animal is a service animal they always are a service animal. When my friend was alive I remember that she used to give a command like "Side" than when her service dog did what she said she would say "Good Side". I know that each person had different ways to train their service animal but I wonder if there are some different things that you will have to do for Mia that you didn't do with Max? What things have you learned from training Max that you would do differently with Mia? That would be a good video? By the way both fo them are cute.

My service dog in training, during his first non pet store public access trip he got spooked by a large clanking cart in the store one of the employees was moving and it freaked him out and he growled at it. He had never seen one before so I corrected and removed him from the area to get his focus back, but otherwise he did amazing. We got into our training late because of covid, so he has some behavioral issues to work out. He reacts to some men with certain personalities and so he is working to get that fixed. He does great as long as they don’t approach or speak to him. We always have lots of treats and positive praise for when he does good. Also because of quarantine he wasn’t properly socialized with children and is still nervous around ones he doesn’t know. He got him with the intent for him to be a service dog a week before quarantine started. He did 6 months of obedience training with a trainer but service, task, and behavioral training is all on me. It’s a slow process, but he’s just over a year and is one of the most well behaved dogs I’ve ever had. And I used to obedience and rally show dogs when I was younger! He is my life and I’m striving to make him the best he can be. He just needs to stop whining when he doesn’t get his way or is bored 😂

My 13yr old is autistic and huge meltdowns and I've heard that a service dog can really help with that. And then my other son just got diagnosed with Tourette's. For now we have a cat, and my son with Tourette's she really helps him. He will have nightmares and she will get out of her bed and come and lay her body across him. I did not train her to do that. I'm going to New York City in June of next year and would like to take my dog with me on that trip (we'd be driving with frequent breaks) and I was wondering about how long or how trained your sdit should be before it's ready to head out in public with you, because I'd really prefer to take my dog with me to New York (It's not a very anxiety friendly place with crowds and such lol)
