Nothing wrong with being fearful of something... the term phobia is used for when people have an ‘irrational’ fear... you don’t, for example, get height-phobia - it’s called vertigo because we all feel it and it’s a natural fear, not irrational... to be fearful of , for example, a religion with which you are not familiar, is not unnatural, it’s perfectly natural. Hate speech does exist, as it's a type of speech. Meaning "hate speech" is merely a label for the speech being used. All you need for proof is to go to a KKK website, or to the Westboro Baptist Church's page and you will see plenty of hate speech. Saying hate speech doesn't exist merely because there are no laws against it in the US, is ignorant of the facts of the matter. There was even a world war fought over hate and fascism.
Just because there are no laws against something, doesn't mean that something doesn't exist. To say otherwise is a fallacious argument.

We would be in a very different place if this level of polite conversation was the norm.
