    According to the Leica Pocket Book 8th Edition the Summilux-M 75mm f1.4 & the Noctilux-M 50mm f1 were both based on the design of the Summilux-M 50mm f1.4 pre-aspheric lens. The book also states that Dr. Mandler created the the Summilux-M 75mm f1.4 & the Summilux-R 80mm f1.4 at the same time & that they are virtually the same lens design.

    As a fashion/beauty photographer using SL2 and SL2-S, I love my Lux-SL50 and APO-90, but I’d love to see a 135 SL from Leica. The combo with the 75 would be a great one…

    Reportedly, the first version of the Summilux M 75 (v1) can only focus down to about 90cm instead of 75cm (v2 and v3). All three versions are difficult to focus, because the lens is far from apochromatic, so you actually have to choose which color you want to be in focus.

    • @SwamiVittala
      @SwamiVittala 2 роки тому +1

      My 75lux minimum focus distance is about 70cm, the nearest marked minimum is 80cm but it focuses closer. I don't have any problem focusing, but I use it primarily on my Monochrom. My version is german.

    Dear guys, what would you recommend for a weekend trip to a city and to countryside? 21/3.4, 35/2.0 with 75/2.0 or with 90/4.0? The 3D pop for me is notable with the 75 but not with the 90. Do you agree?
    On the other side, the 90 is longer and much lighter and gives a bit more flexibility. And having the M11 over the shoulder with the 90 is more convenient.

    • @RedDotForum
      @RedDotForum  Рік тому +1

      I'd go for the 75 APO. A bit more unique look. With the M11's 60MP, you can easily just crop in a bit to make up for the focal length deficit.

    I have a question about my 75 apo, why is it so flare when shooting even not
    In direct sun light. I already have a professional checked for light leak but it still too flare. Is it common for everyone? Many thanks.

    Great video, as always! Thank you. What do you guys think of the usefulness of the noctilux tripod-foot on an SL(2)? No rotation possible and other SL-lenses (e.g. 24-90, 50 lux) are even heavier. Would you say this is primarily an M-feature? Btw, sounds was a bit strange. Listening on AirPods Max, sometimes weird stereo-effects, perhaps something to check out.

    • @RedDotForum
      @RedDotForum  3 роки тому

      The L-mount lenses are indeed heavier, but the L mount itself is also larger and therefore designed to support more weight. Regardless, you can safely use the 75mm Noctilux with or without the tripod foot when mounted on the SL2.
      Thanks for the note about the sound. We did introduce a new audio interface / mixer in this episode, so I'll definitely check out the stereo mix settings.

    Stopped down Noctilux to 2.0 versus APO-Summicron-SL at wide open..
    Any thoughts?

    • @RedDotForum
      @RedDotForum  2 роки тому +2

      The 75 Noctilux is stellar, but I'd still give the edge to the 75 APO SL at f/2 for absolute sharpness. Of course, the 75 APO SL wouldn't provide the look that you can achieve wide open at f/1.25 on the Noctilux. Apart from optical performance, the SL lens offers a few other advantages on an SL body:
      - Closer minimum focus
      - Autofocus
      - More compact
      - Fully weather sealed

    Unfortunate the live cast is too late at night for me to stay up and watch. I would have liked to ask whether you have any thoughts about the summilux 75 1.4 vs. the summarex 85 1.5 when shooting film. I realize that both lenses cannot remotely compete with modern ones in terms of sharpness, CA control, etc. Film, however, is a lot more forgiving and character matters a great deal more (at least for me). Since a summilux will sell for about twice what a summarex costs, I am wondering whether the pricing differential makes sense or not. Do you have any thoughts? Thank you

    I didn't see my 75mm Apo-Summicron-M Asph. Why not? If all of the modern lenses are APO then where does Aspherical land? Is it a super sharp lens? I really like it, but how does it compare to some of the other lenses.

    • @RedDotForum
      @RedDotForum  3 роки тому +2

      We spent a considerable amount of time discussing the APO-Summicron-M 75mm f/2 ASPH. Went over specs, history, usage, showed image samples on computer and did some live shooting with it as well. It's a great portrait lens, with excellent sharpness and luscious falloff, in a compact package.

      @@RedDotForum I viewed it in a bit of a hurry and I "fast forwarded" through parts, so I must have missed it. But I really thought I look carefully for that, since it's the lens I've got, and I like it a lot.

    I love your content and the detail that you describe the Leica gear you review but in all honesty, you’d be my only source if there was a way to make your videos shorter. They all run over 2 plus hours with a ton of unnecessary filler talk. Not a criticism just a personal observation. Other than that I love what you do. Could you limit to 1 hour? Or have an edited shorter version available? I just don’t have the free time to last 2 plus hours. Cheers..
