How To Build A Japanese Bamboo Fountain In Less Than 2 Hours

  • Today I'll be building a Japanese styled bamoo fountain. Although its often called a Shishi Odoshi, that is what is called in the west a deer chaser or deer scarer. The bamboo is stationary and simply allows a small stream of water to flow thru and calmly spills into a water basin. The sound is calming and its a great item for garden pathways and to place near a sitting area. The total build time for me was less than two hours and was simple to assemble the entire fountain.

Thank you very much for taking the time to put together a great video! Your attention to details and ingenuity are amazing! I wish you could do a video showing how you made the bamboo spout.

Really good directions and the fountain looks great. I wish I'd known about the storm drain idea before I built my fountain this past summer. I ended up using a "pond liner" and creating a grate for the top. Definitely not strong enough to stand on, but strong enough for the basin, water and rocks around the base.

I built one! I did it just like you said to do it and it worked perfectly. I did make 1 small change. I put the pump inside a paint strainer to protect it. I love it. Thanks for sharing. I appreciate you.

Well done video. Thank you. 😊What about mosquitos laying their eggs in the water … or algae developing in the water?

I'd love to make one. Can this be adapted to a solar light source?

Lowes in the plant pots. They have a couple of sizes. Happy gardening

That was a little disappointing. The one thing I was hoping to learn was how to attach the small spout to the larger piece, especially if I want it at an angle.

It is called a shishi odoshi . It is a Japanese device made to frighten away animals that pose a threat to agriculture. You are welcome .
