Thank you! The key was right-clicking the CD-drive from My Computer/This PC. It didn't have an "explore" option but it did have "copy". So I copied and pasted to the USB. That worked, with all my other files still on the USB.

This worked great for me! I found a lot of pics that I thought I had lost of my dog that I had to put to sleep on June 4th. He meant the world to me... thanks so much for showing me how to do this because my laptop has no disc drive. I borrowed a friends laptop to copy the CD to a flash drive. One difference worth mentioning is my friends laptop is a Windows 7 and instead of "Explore" it says "Organize". Other than that it worked perfectly. Plus I don't need to download any special software to view the files on my Windows 10 computer. THANKS A BUNCH!!!

Recently i copied about 200 music tracks in a very similar way, from Windows Media Player. Now i can plug the usb flash drive into the port in my car, instead of carrying around a load of actual dvd's. I can scroll through the tracks, it all comes up on the screen, most cars have an up or down button on the steering wheel. So flash drive is way safer while driving. My laptop is running Windows 8.1 64 bit.
It would be great to save a dvd movie to a flash drive (not to watch in the car though). Thanks for tutorial.

BRAVO! . You're awesome. Such a great video. I've been trying to download a driver for my ancient (but truly excellent working) printer and the online drivers don't work AT All! Even with HP's help. Crazy! I love my printer and it is connected to my desktops and I hate to buy a new printer till this one dies.. I have the cd, but My new laptop does not have a cd slot. So with your video was able to now transfer my printer cd drivers/files to a flash drive and install them on my laptop via the flash drive instead of the cd. I can use my laptop with my ancient printer now and you've truly made my day. Thanks so much!.

I’m having all sorts of problems making an bootable ISO file - a ms utility formats the usb but errors on copying files. Next stop I’m whizzing up to the shops to buy another couple of usbs, then try something called rufus though there isn’t much in the way of step by step info on how to achieve what I need.
I’m a pensioner in New Zealand with way too much free time.
A friend suggested I swap rom drives from another pc, which is similar to your suggestion.

+Marzia Martin You should be able to. It depends on if it has security features on the dvd or if it would copy as one file. Sometimes they are in parts. You have to go through more processes to get it to work.

hi Jamie, your video and instructions are the best I've seen so far.
The problem I have : I have a pc with XP. I want to upgrade it to Windows 7. I have the Windows 7 on a DVD but the cd rom on the pc I want to upgrade won't or can't read the DVD.
So, with following your instructions on this video I'm assuming I'll be fine copying the DVD contents to a usb flashdrive.
If I restart my pc with the flashdrive still plugged in, will the Windows setup commence?

that won't work that way, I mean I wish it would but that won't work. Your gonna have try like an external DVD drive or your gonna have to create a new bootable windows 7 usb flash drive. You have to create it so it boots the media properly so you can get to the setup screen and install windows 7

Quick question: I have built a new PC. The motherboard that I bought came with a disc to install the drivers. Since I don't have an optical drive, if I copy the content to a USB, can I install the drivers from the USB? I haven't been able to install Windows 10 yet because my hdmi isn't outputing a display, and I think the issue is that I haven't installed any of the drivers yet.
Yes that would work however there are two ways of doing that to get the drivers installed
I did really have a problem with some cd roms not letting me copy.
I did managed to copy that was my music cd but the copy is really damaged.
Sounds like you need to make some new copies get some new 📀 dvd roms

Realize this is an old video, but will this work for software that has multiple installation disks? without using a flash drive for each disk? Reason I ask with most new laptop don't even come with CD drives.
yes it's an old video for sure, I'm pretty sure it will work for multiple disks, as long as you know what your doing, the video is just to help folks along with the process but it might require some tech background in order to do multiple disks

They are basically the same formats. They discs look just a like and both are supported by most of the DVD-ROM drives and DVD burners on the market. The real only difference between the formats is the way I think, they determine the location of the laser beam on each disc.
your drive should show on the front of the try what formats it supports. Just use those ones then.

Hi I'm none where near computer savy but I'm wanting to know if I can transfer a jpg c.d to a usb stick but I want it in svg. I make birthday cards for ppl I found a few cheap c.d but would prefer them in svg and on usb stick
Hi shelly I don't have any videos on that one, but I'm sure there is a way to do it with adobe Illustrator, maybe you could try and see if you could export the SVG file as a JPG? might have the option, I haven't spent a lot of time with adobe Illustrator

I wondered if you have any insight on doing this with software that has a two-disc installation. I'm able to run the first disc's .exe fine, but in the program when it asks for the 2nd disc, it gets hung up. I can't figure out how to point it to the correct file. We have an old-school proprietary database software that we use daily, but our new laptop computers don't come with disc drives anymore, so I'm trying to figure out a way to copy the install files so we don't need to pass around an auxiliary drive.

Yes it should, you should be able to make at least one backup copy of music.

I was trying to use my cd as an audio disk but it didn't work because I turned it into a USB drive. Do you know how to turn the cd back to its normal format?
+Cookie Creamer depends on if your able to write to it again. Depends on what you choose to do when you formatted it to work as a USB drive. You should be able to right click on it and choose format.
