loved the mods, just finished my sawback jeep using your updates to the suspension and steering arms, really good tips also put some lead on the chassis but not as much as you.Now waiting on the axial rock sliders to finish it off. Looking forward for your next video.
I just added some SCX10 sliders today, what a difference they made. I've done the above the spring tie rod mod. Your info is very informative, thank you.
Sounds like some solid upgrades. I also agree with the motor choice. My stock 20t in my wraith lasted 1 good slow difficult under a strain crawls. I smelled it, touched it, let it cool and tried it again. Nowhere near the torque.... fried. I got a 35t and was so much easier to control and lots of torque without half throttle. The 35t is too slow for the boost you sometimes need to make a certain obstacle that can't be crawled. So, I tried a 27t and was a decent compromise until I got a little more serious and slow. Now it's also getting hot and I think it lost a little power lately as well. Still have the 35t though and it doesn't get hot. Barley even warm. Good info in your video.
The idea of the short spring on top of the long with no middle spring is to allow the long spring to flex, the short spring is there to help prevent the long spring leaf from twisting too much under torque and getting bent. Softness, plus safety. These mods are only useful for slow rock crawling. For higher speed handling you would want the springs to be more stiff. Leaf springs, however, will never be as supple as coil springs for crawling, but they are cool.
I’ve done exactly what you said about 3 times. And about 10 times watching the video, still just as stiff. No more articulation than what I already had 🤔. Any suggestions?
why put the short spring on top of the long leaf spring does it stiffin it at all.....basically they long spring is the only one giving resistance right? its a little confusing because I know that's they way the manual says what I did was took my medium length spring and trimmed 3/4 of a inch off both side then put it under the long spring that way it give extra support right at the axle but let the main spring do most of the flex while also giving it extra ridgidity
great informative video. I am starting a sawback build. question : did you have to glue those new tires on? ( I'm a newbie to crawlers... fly helis, and plane's )wheels look great did you paint wheels ,I'd so what color is that? would like to see body color. .what mod can I do in order to have more robust drive shaft? thanks! any other pointers?
+Noah Schechtel No, the tires are not glued. The wheels were painted with Krylon "pewter gray", the body paint was a failed experiment using Krylon Fusion paint for plastics. It started to un-stick in places. Use only real paint for lexan. JunFac sells steel drive shafts for the Sawback.

You are welcome! I hope to post soon on a couple of new Junfac upgrades.

Can you fit a different transmission with a slipper clutch? Very helpful video.
I think so, the Axial SCX10 would be a good choice. The mounting holes pattern is different, but I think it could be adapted.
