    I’m heat trained. It’s convenient and I’m always able to give myself a precise trim. I like wearing my hair straight. I wash and press my hair every two weeks. I wear it down the first week, and the second I put it up in a banana clip to protect my ends. Every night I brush my hair and scalp gently with a boar bristle brush to distribute sebum and my hair is never dry. This also helps relieve any scalp irritation and flakes. At night I either wrap my hair or put silk rollers in it. I’m starting to realize that protective styles do more damage to my hair. The last protective style was twists a year ago. For a whole year I’ve been following this routine with no protective styling and my hair is the thickest it’s been and has grown past the “shoulder plateau”.

    I would consider myself a stretched hair natural, I don’t care to have my hair curly/defined. I stretch my hair without heat and now my hair is down my back, I keep up with my trims as well. I would definitely say it’s to each their own. When I straighten my hair, it forms split ends like crazy and I get it professionally trimmed beforehand too.

    I agree. Heat trained natural is the best for the hair. I was a curly natural for like 6 years. I needed that because it taught me my hair. I had to learn, and train my curl pattern and moisture retention. I have high porosity hair. Ive been natural until 15 ys old and then went back natural at 25 and I never knew until I was 30 yrs old what my hair looked like in its natural curl pattern. It was was so dry/ unsealed all my life until i discover what products worked for me and i trained my hair while wearing protective styles for the past 6 yrs after making that discovery. I was so scarred to lose my curl pattern again. And i kept my ends in GREAT shape. Now I can silk press my hair 1x per month and still revert back with NO heat damage to my curls at all. The key was learning how to maintain my protein/ moisture balance and normalize my porosity when I was curl training my hair. I know what products are gonna get my curls back right every time and protect them for the next round of heat.

    • @jasminep.9860
      @jasminep.9860 3 місяці тому +2

      @@Artsii_jadii You just have to take proper care of your hair. Don't use heat too often, ALWAYS use a heat protectant, and moisturize your hair (find a thick hair moisturizer that's not too watery and rub it together on your palms and put a light amount on your hair and ends, and your hair won't revert). Deep condition on wash days to keep your hair strong. God bless 🩷

    My hair is 3c/4a. I consider myself a curly natural because I wear my hair in wash n gos majority of the time. Occasionally I’ll put smedium sized box braids with no extensions in. I also get my hair professionally straightened and trim my ends once every 2 months. I find my hair flourishes with this combination. I used your Olaplex method before I get a silk press everytime and haven’t gotten any heat damage. I also do a 2 step protein treatment before getting the silk press. I wouldn’t consider my hair heat trained because my curls are still very much in tact. I contribute steaming deep conditioning everytime I wash, moisturizing and getting my hair trimmed has contributed to my hair growth I’ve retained 5 out of 6 inches in a year doing this

    I don’t think there is a best one personally; our hair is so versatile--I think it’s based on entirely on the individual and their lifestyle of which way works best for them! Mine isn’t listed but I keep my hair banded and I thread my ends, I wear my hair this way throughout the weeks until it’s time to wash it and redo the bands and thread. This works best for me and my ends are better protected this way! I love it!

    So I've been natrual all my life. When I was 17 I went to the pool with my boyfriend and he said he loved my natural hair and I should wear it out more. After going home and looking at YT for 5hours straight I concluded I needed enormous amounts of deep conditioner, gel and no more heat so that my curls would "look moisturized and defined". Once we moved in together and i started working it was very time consuming to try and do my hair every other day. I stumbled upon Moe Knows Hair perm rod set video, and once I tried it, I didn't go back. Once a week I deep conditioned. I used homemade Whipped Shea butter on my ends, and sat under the dryer for 2 hours tops while watching anime.... didn't have to touch my hair until the following week. So even tho I was natural I was still using heat, and my hair was healthy so that showed me that if I want to straighten it or rock a blowout, I can I just can't fry it every morning like I was back in school. I went 3 years and only straightened my hair twice, and my hair was still frizzy and my curls weren't perfect how I wanted them to. So I concluded that my hair is naturally frizzy and even if I used half a tub of gel, it's gonna do what it wants. But if I straighten it, do a blow out with twits, or rock a rod set. It's protected for a week or 2 and I don't have to worry about how my hair looks. If I could find products and gel that held a style for a week (and trust me I have tried so many, the scarfs.... pineapple method all that) then I would be more natural I guess? But until then, I like being a stretched/straight natrual. My hair is down my back and I spend less time typing to slick my hair back and resetting and twisting it every other day to make it look presentable. Idk why we feel so bad/fear using heat. Women with "straight hair" wake up and blow out their hair or add curls to it on a regular basis and Becky is fine. You have to learn how to use a flat iron properly, use good heat protection and you'll be fine if you want to switch it up from time to time.

    • @bre6651
      @bre6651 Рік тому +3

      As far as price goes, being a heat natural is cheaper for me. I don't get a silk press I just straighten my hair myself with 2 chi products and a flat iron I got at the flea market lol. The only thing I still have to buy every 3-4 months is shampoo and a deep conditioner. When I was a curly natural I always had an impulse to buy products everytime I went to the store. And when I did find something I liked, my hair is so long I would go thru it in a week or 2. I oil my scalp and deep condition religiously so I don't have an issue with growth or dry scalp and hair. I workout, take lots of vitamins, protein shakes and smoothies as well. This plays a big factor with growth. If you're eating a lot of processed foods sugar and carbs your body will send the little vitamins you get to your vital organs and not your hair which = hair loss

  • @mrod87

    I cycle between these hair styles: mini twists (on blown out hair) flat ironed hair, knotless braids, and finger coils. I have high porosity hair that is very dense and thick but my hair is also fine. My pattern is 3c/4a and bra strap length…My hair likes to be freshly trimmed for my styles to perform well. It likes protein 4-6 weeks, it likes to be hot oil treated and deep conditioned every wash. and it also likes to be in styles that don’t require much maintenance after styling. My hair styles aren’t based on “natural” or curl pattern, it’s based on ease throughout the week. My hair grows best when i do the least to it. It likes being straightened professionally, not so much when i do it myself…so my “hair rules” are “can i go at least two weeks without having to style again, can i workout, are my ends easily protected thru out the day”. I used to want to fit in a style box but i just don’t, but this is what i do and my hair is long and thick and EASY!

    I’ve done all 3 too in the past 15 years. And I agree 100% … I do maintenance every 8 weeks (professional blow out and trim, silk press sometimes but not always) and I wear protective styles between once my hair reverts. Wear my curls out like one week every 3 months. I’m lazy and I don’t mind spending the money. And I switch up the protective styles because I ruined my leaveout before by doing too many sew ins. I find that medium box braids cause the least damage or crochet. And I always have to trim immediately after taking out a style that’s been in a while. And I don’t wear any style more than 4-6 weeks so that detangling isn’t a nightmare.

    Best information on heat train hair I've come across. Especially that you're a licensed professional. My question is how many times should you wash your hair when doing so? 🤔 I usually wash once a month or when it feels loaded with product. Someone commented that if I wash more, I'll see more growth. I usually wash, use conditioner to detangle, DC(steam), then use my RevAir to dry on low, and braid. My hair is low porosity3c/4a hair and mid back length. Thanks for the download and tips! As a curly natural, even though I may not get cuts and trims as often as a straight or heat-trained natural, split ends are not a problem for me. For one thing, I finger detangle only. I am not raking combs or brushes through my curls causing snapping, snagging, or tension. I also keep my hair in plaits so I minimize tangling and single-strand knots. Lastly, I frequently coat my ends with oil which minimizes friction. When I do silk press my hair every year, I have to cut it, but after the cut it is still significantly longer than it was the year before. I do dust my ends and cut fairy knots between presses.

I’m also - medium to high porosity, 3c/4a curls, high density. I deep condition weekly with a heat cap. I treasure 1-2 times weekly - and use salon products ( olaplex, redkin bond treatments, shampoos, conditioners, and deep conditioners, leave ins and creams) from ULTA. I may use wet line hair gel - for a strong hold style to last all week thru humidity and work.
    I’ve been so afraid to use flat iron - silk press heat. I definitely want to change up my style for winter only and to ensure I keep up my ends. My fear is changing my curl pattern. My dream is battling with shrinkage.

    I’m not sure that I’m fully understanding the difference between being a straight natural and heat trained. I used to straighten my hair most of the time but I had that thinning in my ends so I started straightening my hair less often and using lower heat settings. My curl pattern is still essentially non-existent at my ends but I have noticed a lot more fullness in my new growth!

    I'm somewhere between a curly natural and heat trained natural. I've been sort of heat training for a little over a year, but I never actually straighten it all the way. I blow dry after washing and follow up with a dry twist out. But I'm also in the middle of a career transition toward Mortgage Banking and I'm a single mom of 2 special needs children so it might be a world easier for me to maintain straight natural instead.

    Throughout the years I have been a curly natural and a silk press natural. For me I think silk pres natural can be more expensive but I use mostly drug store brand items and I do my own hair so that lessens the cost of being a silk pres natural greatly. I usually flat iron my hair every three weeks to a month. I notice that when I keep my hair straight, that's when I get the most length. The longest my hair has ever been was hip length and that was when I kept my hair pressed and kept track of my ends. When I was a curly hair natural for a few years like 8 years is when I had the most trouble keeping length due to getting little knots on my ends because my curls would curl in on themselves and turn in to knots, so I had to keep trimming them and that was a little upsetting.

      Do you use oil sheen spray to maintain your silk press? If so how often? I ask because my hair stylist is against using oil sheen spray...especially the kind that has shea butter or coconut oil. She says I just need a light finishing spray every few days.

    • @MetaDoll
      @MetaDoll 5 місяців тому +1

      @@catmouse2882 I don't use oil sheen spray or anything that is a heavy oil because it will make my hair too oily quick. Shea butter oil is heavy for my hair. I do use the Garnier Fructis Sleek and Shine anti friz serum every few days to keep the frizz away like a little bit goes a long way. It may work for your hair give it a try. I tried many things and found out that that one worked best for me :)

    I understand people not wanting to manipulate their hair, but there is nothing "natural" about gluing fake hair to your scalp or sewing in other women's hair onto your head 99% of the year, paying zero attention to scalp health and cleanliness for the sake of saying "you are natural." That's just hiding your hair at that point.

    • @lorrainefoster1320

      Then, they are hiding their natural hair, which is totally up to them. Wigs don’t change the chemistry of the hair. We just don’t see it, and that’s okay.

  • @joycedouglas6639
    @joycedouglas6639 4 місяці тому

    Why can't your natural hair be trim, I don't need my hair blowed out to get split ends taken care of , I seen where some professionals hair care people automatically cut the ends of your hair when it looks thin and it's not necessary because all the hair on your head does not grow at the same rate, also I don't consider my natural hair as a curly natural there is nothing curly about it, it's coily or kinky and with certain products the kinks or coils can be loosen to look like a curl,and really a professionals hair care person should learn how to care for the kinky/coily hair without useing the technique that applies for othe texture type hair... people of kinky/coily hair don't mind paying for professionals care when it's the appropriate care and not a short cut.
