    my routine is totally different...I like using the tangle teaser during pre-pooing and again when conditioning...but i do a lot of what you do. i think the biggest thing with heat training is you have to commit to mastering a technique. I learned this in 2022, I need to find a flat iron routine and stick to it. For me, I think what works best for my hair is rollersetting with water only, and then adding a heat protectant and flat ironing...repetition will result in better results.

    Quick tip: be sure to use more water when applying conditioner. The conditioner should foam like shampoo and that helps it to not only spread but also reinforce the closing of the hair cuticle!

    I loved this informative video. Thanks for sharing Shell!! I especially appreciated it when she said she considers safe heat training to involve 4 to 6 silk presses a year (2:50) and alternating with other forms of indirect heat. I found that so insightful because I thought heat training required more frequent flat ironing. The 4 to 6 presses a year guideline will help me be strategic with direct heat to preserve the integrity of my hair 👍🏽.

    I swear all the heat training hate be coming from these 2c-4a naturals. No offense but y’all don’t be struggling like the 4b-4c girls so keep y’all opinion to yourself pleaseeee when it comes to what we do to try to just get by without spending 5+ hours on our hair

    Your hair looks so beautiful!! Thanks for these videos they help a lot. I’ve been getting my hair silk pressed for the past 2 years once every 4 weeks and my hair has been shedding like crazy and it’s at a stand still on growth :(. I’m going to start doing my hair myself but idk where to start.

      Maybe try washing and styling it every 2 weeks instead of 4. Hair will shed a lot if there is an excess of oil and buildup on the scalp. Also, if you oil your scalp, maybe stop for a while to observe a difference in shedding.

    • @shelltalkshair
      @shelltalkshair  Рік тому +4

      Hey so shedding comes for 1 or 2 things. Something internally such as stress, medication, Covid, health conditions etc. Or it can be from not washing and detoxing your hair enough. I would say switch up your routine and reduce the heat use. I have a hair routine you can start with on my Instagram under my highlight that says “start here”

    Hey your hair looks amazing. I have been heat training for a while, sense doing so I’ve realized the perimeter of my head is a way looser texture. Although my curls aren’t as tight the middle of my head is still far more kinkier than the rest. Should I use a lower heat setting for the perimeter of my head, to make sure I am not damaging my hair?

    • @shelltalkshair
      @shelltalkshair  Рік тому +5

      Yes and use less pressure when flat ironing. I’d say take a break from heat until it recovers. The perimeter is the hardest part to grow back.

      you'd be better off saturating the hair with olaplex first then the oil, you wouldn't want to create a barrier to stop it absorbing

    why do you need to heat train your hair? you can achieve the same length a lot faster by leaving your hair in it's natural state. just admit - you don't want to wear your naturally kinky hair out and prefer straight hair

    • @tyra4553
      @tyra4553 Рік тому +57

      It's not about length, it's about manageability. She doesn't have to manipulate her hair everyday or worry about a style. Clearly it works for her because her hair is healthy, thick, and she still has her curls. I don't understand the natural hair community. My grandmother had natural kinky red hair to her tailbone in the 90's and only used V05, hair grease, and a hot comb. Let's start respecting other people's decisions on what they do with their hair.

    • @gravity-blue
      @gravity-blue Рік тому +6

      @@tyra4553 i don't have an obligation to respect anyone. i do not respect someone who flat irons their hair because they think straight hair is easier. what type of message does that insinuate? curly hair is so easy to take care of if you actually learn about it.
      this is just a nice way of saying you don't like your hair texture and want to imitate white/Asian people. and if you don't believe me - what type of wigs do the majority of black people wear if they buy one? straight hair or type 3 curls. i wonder why. self hate is real

      @@gravity-blue straight hair IS easier. I've been natural and tried everything from relaxers, wearing my hair in its natural curly state and even two sets of locs. I tried everything and experimented but my favorite way to wear my hair is in a silk press. I can see my length, it's easier to maintain and detangling my hair is done in 2 seconds versus my 2 hours when my hair was long and wore it in a curly state. You are getting offended and coming here to offend someone because they like to wear their hair straight. You seem insecure about your own hair and seem to be projecting. I'm not upset if a woman wears her hair curly, straight, relaxed or if she shaved the damn thing off! Stop being pressed for no reason on the internet. because it is misinformation. she is stating her opinion as a fact. flat ironing naturally kinky hair will not make it healthy and long over an extended period of time. and claiming that straight hair makes naturally coily hair easier to grow out is also false. stay pissed off about my comment, i'm not changing a thing i said
